Lawndale is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 31,711 at the 2000 census.
Kate Bosworth (born Catherine Ann Bosworth

Roy Rogers once lived here for a short time and Fred Dryer grew up in Lawndale.
While attending Cohasset high school (which she graduated from in 2001), Bosworth learned to speak Spanish and was a member of the National Honor Society; she also played varsity soccer and lacrosse. Bosworth has always been interested in a professional career as a competitive horse racer and, by the age of fourteen, was a champion equestrian.

Starting in the 1970s Lawndale's relatively low housing prices but less desirable location relative to its neighboring cities attracted absentee landlords and a substantial portion of its residents increasingly became renters.
Career
Bosworth's first film role came after an open casting call in New York for the supporting part of "Judith" in the 1998 film, The Horse Whisperer. The film's producers needed someone who was already an experienced horse rider, leading to Bosworth's successful audition for the role. She subsequently had a supporting part in the 2000 film Remember the Titans. In 2001, Bosworth moved to Los Angeles in hopes of obtaining easier access to auditions and better film parts. Her first leading role was in 2002's surfing movie, Blue Crush. The film received positive reviews and grossed $40 million at the United States box office, allowing Bosworth wider exposure to a mainstream audience.

For a time in the 1980s, with new cycle of expansion of defense industry nearby, many young people who wished to live in the Beach Cities found that they simply could not afford to do so, and settled in less glamorous inland cities such as Lawndale. But with the contraction of this industry after the cold war, Lawndale reverted back to its prevous pattern. Lawndale has attempted to attract more owner/residents with the 2003 completion of an urban renewal project along the city's stretch of Hawthorne Boulevard (California State Highway 107), a major South Bay thoroughfare.
Between 2002 and 2005, Bosworth appeared in a number of widely released films. She starred as actress Sandra Dee in Beyond the Sea and played the lead role in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!, opposite Josh Duhamel. Bosworth also portrayed Chali, a Hare Krishna, in a film adaption of Myla Goldberg's acclaimed novel Bee Season, about a dysfunctional Jewish family. She has appeared in several Revlon ads and ranked as #60 in FHM's "100 Sexiest Women in the World 2005" list. For two years running, she has placed on the Maxim magazine Hot 100 List--#38 in 2005 and #8 in 2006. She was also number two on E!'s 2006's "Girls of Summer" list.

In 2005, Bosworth was cast as reporter Lois Lane in the new Superman movie, Superman Returns. Her Beyond the Sea co-star, Kevin Spacey, who also appears in Superman Returns, suggested Bosworth for the role to director Bryan Singer. Bosworth initially hesitated to take the role, citing the iconic nature of the character, and the potentially negative fan reaction to her performance, but eventually accepted. The film was released on June 28, 2006, and Bosworth has already signed on for a potential sequel.<ref name="sequel">{{cite web | title=Dark Horizons | work=Interview: Kate Bosworth
