Hi MassMessage,

:Hi @Miraburu. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the default Heading-level (h2->h3).
Please do not spam my talk page and remove my user name from your spam list.
:MassMessage senders just use the interface shown here :File:Screenshot of MassMessage MediaWiki extension.png. It simply adds a new section to the bottom of whichever page is specified in the Distribution list that was used (per your listing).

Erroneous destination
Hi, someone sent a MassMessage destination in the Wikisource:Scriptorium page on the French wikisource. But that page is actually made of monthly pages, so it should have been sent to the fr:Wikisource:Scriptorium/Octobre 2023 page instead. I did the transfer, but please fix this if other messages are planned in the future. Seudo (talk) 16:38, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
Hi, i have sent a mass message after some test but it never arrived, the queue in the stats was 0. After few minutes I assumed it might have been a bug, nothing arrived. Now I see that both mass messages are listed. Do you have any advice?--Alexmar983 (talk) 20:19, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

:Thanks for the transfer and for the note here! You can find out which delivery list was used in a MassMessage by looking at the wikitext for the original message, which always ends with a hidden HTML-comment that links to the page used; in this case it was from User:SGill (WMF)/lists/WS VPs, which I think I've now fixed by copying from a working version elsewhere. I hope that helps. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 20:26, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
I would remove one of them from a queue but the queue is at zero, as far as I can check. And I need to send this message, I am already late of many weeks and last time I had to copy and paste them one by one in the talk pages. This year I finally created a list and... nothing.--Alexmar983 (talk) 20:20, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

I made a test and I know that single message arrive, so if nothing occurs since we need this message I will separate the list in smaller lists and try again.--Alexmar983 (talk) 20:34, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

I am using smaller lists now, unfortunately I made a typo in some messages but you get distracted if you have to make your work in such a fragmented way. What was the original problem? is there a limit per message?--Alexmar983 (talk) 20:56, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

ok I am completing the sending with smaller lists. If I might express a comment, if this is some sort of filter because you are worried that somebody too many poor messages, it actually forces me to do so many additional passage that the chace to make mistakes increases, as occured with my first and second step.

You shouldn't limit the overall number of recipents... instead if the threshold is higher put an additional check by a second user or reduce the number of sent messages per minute, so they are processed much slower... this can actually achive the result more efficiently. Also, I don't understand why there is no clear warning or information, it all appearead as sent considering certain aspects (queue and final message in the interface).--Alexmar983 (talk) 21:21, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

:I'm not sure it's related to the delivery problems you experienced, but I see in the logs for one of your December 2019 delivery that your list had a few non-existing usernames. Target lists need continuous maintenance (one more reason I agree it's better if they don't need to be split by arbitrary criteria). Nemo 08:38, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

Best practices for a MassMessage distributed to all wikis
The 2030 Movement Brand project is organizing a call for feedback on naming convention proposals (see Preparing for feedback on the naming convention proposals). After months of work and discussions, it will be the first time when actual proposals for naming conventions will be presented by the team. Even if this project is working on a brand system for Wikimedia organizations (affiliates and the Foundation), there have been enough signs showing that this is a topic interesting to individual contributors across the board. The team strives to get feedback from as many contributors as possible, from as many projects as possible. MassMessage is a tool that can help achieving this goal.

Now, we are well aware of the difficult balance between informing and spamming when using MassMessage... massively. We want to do things right.

The call for feedback runs between May 7 and May 21. The plan is to publish the (short) announcement for translation on Monday May 4 latest. Ideally the message would be distributed on May 7 right after the presentation, but we can wait for i.e. better coverage of translations. We could also organize a distribution by phases instead of messaging all channels at once. Again, whatever is considered the best practice for this situation. Any thoughts? Qgil-WMF (talk) 10:04, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

:When you say "all wikis", how many targets do you have in mind? Gradual distribution is certainly an option.
:Before sending the notification to many people you generally want to make sure that it's up to task for whatever purpose it has, that the targets match the expected audience and that the languages are appropriate.
:Given there is already an ongoing RfC, it's advisable to make sure that there's consensus on the format of this new discussion will be. If you send thousands of notifications and the text is found to be biased, or otherwise deficient, you might then be forced to expensive corrections. Nemo 15:02, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

::By how many targets you mean number of people? We want to have at the very least 1000 survey participants, and 4000 would be a successful number. However, we would like to have participation from a wide variety of projects and languages, and this is why we are looking for ways to go beyond e.g. the big Wikipedias.
::We will share the announcement here in Meta by Monday latest. Translations will be sourced with our own resources and then requesting help from affiliates and any translators willing to contribute to their languages. Messaging communities one language at a time would help proceeding with a gradual distribution, based on the availability of translations. Qgil-WMF (talk) 08:30, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

After considering this feedback, the comments from TomDotGov and further advice from community relations colleagues, we have decided not to use MassMessage for this campaign. Too redundant with simultaneous promotion efforts and too intrusive for being such a wide call. Thank you for your feedback. == MassMessage delivery mechanicalism should be processed after the Language Selection function ==

This would been seen for quite a while already. If a MassMessage have multiple language, the Language Select function should be processed before storing onto a Wiki page in order to prevent the trigger by the Abuse Filter in local wiki. Please see the task in Phabricator. Shinjiman (talk) 02:06, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Miraburu. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the default Heading-level (h2->h3).
MassMessage senders just use the interface shown here File:Screenshot of MassMessage MediaWiki extension.png. It simply adds a new section to the bottom of whichever page is specified in the Distribution list that was used (per your listing).
You could file a Feature Request for this in the Phabricator workboard (phab:tag/massmessage/), or contribute a patch. However, I would guess (I am not a developer) that it would be technically complicated to make a new setting that only applies to specific pages, so that would make it more difficult, and thus unlikely to be implemented soon.
I hope that helps. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 21:54, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
