CVNBOT1 for en.wikipedia
Feedback
Just a comment: there's no need to rename the #wikia-* channels since Angela is the contact for #wikia, not Essjay, and I am the contact for #wikia-antivandalism and #wikia-antivandalism-no. :)

Not sure the right forum for this, but I just noticed that CVNBOT1 on IRC flagged an edit I made as possible Copyvio? for placing a welcome template. Perhaps there is something that might need to be tweaked to avoid this. Tiggerjay (talk) 00:50, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
Otherwise, very good proposal, I agree with it for the most part. --<b>Roosa</b> (<font color="hotpink">Talk</font>) 20:05, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
: There kinda is... All the CVN channels should be under the same name, that way we can file a GCF for all of them and get staff help like that. It's a nice proposal, small changes will obviously need to be made as time goes on. I think this sould be incorporated. <small> DTGardner 18:18, 3 September 2007 (UTC) </small>

Hi folks! I have a few questions. A few months ago, through a workshop series as part of the Small wiki toolkits initiative, we learned that one of the Indic community's challenges is a lack of knowledge of tools to fight vandalism on wikis. Indic community involves 25+ smaller language wikis. We are considering organizing a workshop in December for the community in which the focus would be on counter-vandalism tools and how to use them.
Fa
* As there are many ways to fight vandalism on wikis (tools, bots, extensions, etc.), could you share the recommended processes or tools that we should promote more?
I'd like to inform you about the exitance of a channel named #wikipedia-fa-rc, which is created to mimic the cvn channels of other wikis. It is not a very active channel, yet it is useful. Whether it should be considered in the cvn series os not is, perhaps, beyond my knowledge. Anyways, I'm the contact person of that channel and will be glad to help in any ways, if needed. Huji 19:03, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
* Would a member of this group be interested in running a hands-on workshop around this topic for contributors from the Indic community sometime in December? If not, who else would you recommend I should reach out to? I would much appreciate your thoughts! Thanks! SSethi (WMF) (talk) 04:36, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

::SSethi (WMF) Well there are many ways to track and fight vandalism such as dedicated IRC Channels, Global Abuse Filters and toolforge based tools such as SWViewer.
: Your channel is welcome into the network. If you don't mind, it will be renamed to [irc://freenode/cvn-wp-fa #cvn-wp-fa] to match our namespace. One benefit is that the network staff will standardize the technical settings, ensure that you always have an active bot, help maintain order, help with any problems or questions, et cetera. —<small>{admin} Pathoschild 19:09:44, 03 September 2007 (UTC)</small>
::I have been patrolling small wikis using all of them for some time.
:: Thank you. Please let me know if there is something I should do. Huji 23:24, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
::On IRC one can join a dedicated channel such as cvn-sw for small wikis and bot will streamline the recent edits from small wikis with some indicators (mostly color changes) to differentiate between edits.
::Global abuse filters are tricky to understand but they help alot in tracking spambots with certain patterns.
::SWViewer is a Toolforge based tool which also streamline recent changes from small wikis, the difference is that unlike IRC one can revert, edit or tag the bad edit within the tool.
:: These methods are not that difficult to understand but if you need any help I am more than happy to do so. &#8208;&#8208;1997kB&nbsp;(talk) 04:06, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
::: 1997kB Thank you so much for sharing this advice! We were planning a workshop on this topic, so I asked this question here. I might follow up with you for further help on this topic when it comes up:) SSethi (WMF) (talk) 08:24, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Someone ought to go through each of the user page links, and link them up to the relevant project - e.g. Wikia ops should link to their Wikia pages. Staff should link to Meta, or maybe the CVN wiki if that's more appropriate. If you can't work out who a certain user is, you could ask them, and if they don't even have an account on the wiki, you could wonder why they have ops in a channel for a wiki they don't even edit ;) <span style="color:#002bb8">Majorly</span> (talk) 20:31, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello. The main countervandalism IRC channel for the French-language Wikipedia is located at irc://irc.freenode.net/vandalism-fr-wp. I'd suggest we move it to irc://irc.freenode.net/cvn-wp-fr to follow the CVN standardization. Nothing else would change. Thoughts? guillom 11:18, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Can you add this word to the #cvn-wikia WikiaRC Autoflag Notice
Informing this project about new wikis
I know it auto flags the regular version of the N-Word but it does not auto flag the 5 letter variant of the N-Word. So this needs to be fixed. I am displaying the notice at the wrong spot please help me or you guys can talk to the right people in getting this fixed. The WikiaRC bot will flag certain words as "Used Edit Summary:<flagged word here>".

Each time a Wikimedia wiki is created, the initial setup work on it is supposed to be finalized using a "post-creation work" task on the Phabricator. For example, here's the one for kcgwiki, which was created back in May of last year (the wiki, not the task): phab:T305281. There are several such tasks that have remained open for months after the corresponding wikis were created because the "Inform the CVN project for IRC monitoring" item in the checklist has not been marked as completed.
Here is a page replace notice I got from my feed on #wikifur-edits on Freenode:

So, what are y'all supposed to be getting "informed" about, exactly, and how? Is it sufficient to just post something here saying that a certain wiki has been created, or is there more to it? If it's the former (or even if not), then here's a list of the recently created wikis for which the "Inform CVN…" item has not been marked as completed in the corresponding Phabricator task (these are also listed at phab:T327996):

You can learn more about the feature and its development on our project page. Edit Patrol does not intend to replace existing patrolling tools, rather fill some gaps that have been highlighted in the mobile space. Prior to writing a single line of code, the team conducted interviews with patrollers and conducted a comparative review of existing patrolling tools. Throughout development, we have continued to incorporate feedback from members of the community. We prioritized collaboration with communities that have traditionally had difficulty utilizing existing tools, specifically folks using mobile devices.

After initial release, we heard requests to add access to user talk warning templates in the talk page message flow. Users are now able to search and use user talk warning templates as part of the tool. For languages that do not have user warning templates, the team reviewed messages across languages & created 10 example messages that will be preloaded into the app: you can learn more about those messages and leave feedback here.

The feature currently allows users to view the feed of recent edits for only one language wiki at a time (the primary language set in their app), but we are interested to hear if there is a preference from multi-wiki rollbackers to have the ability of patrolling multiple languages in a single feed.

Please check out this presentation with more information, and a demonstration of the feature to learn more. If you have any questions or feedback, we welcome it on the project’s discussion page, or please attend our open demonstration hours for this feature on Google Meet on the 26th of April 2024 at 18 UTC (You can determine the right time in your time zone using a time zone converter tool).

Recommended tools for fighting vandalism

@SSethi (WMF): Well there are many ways to track and fight vandalism such as dedicated IRC Channels, Global Abuse Filters and toolforge based tools such as SWViewer.
I have been patrolling small wikis using all of them for some time.
On IRC one can join a dedicated channel such as #cvn-swconnect for small wikis and bot will streamline the recent edits from small wikis with some indicators (mostly color changes) to differentiate between edits.
Global abuse filters are tricky to understand but they help alot in tracking spambots with certain patterns.
SWViewer is a Toolforge based tool which also streamline recent changes from small wikis, the difference is that unlike IRC one can revert, edit or tag the bad edit within the tool.
