-Development on [http://wikisophia.org/wiki/Wikitex WikiTeX] has been on-going since 2003, and was primarily a means to bring LaTeX objects such as chess, music, math into Wiki; we've since expanded, however, and now support Lilypond, Graphviz and Gnuplot.  TIPA has been added; as well as go, chemistry, Feynman diagrams and even Tengwar.
-The long-term strategy of WikiTeX is incorporation into the Zend engine, so as to allow the direct invocation of WikiTeX from within PHP; or even as an Apache handler, so as to immediately translate markup.
-WikiTeX has been ported from PHP to C for that very purpose.
