Came across this in some filter logs, and decided to take a look through gUser (see here. I omitted the "s" on purpose, as at least one account seemed to omit it. There seem to be 50 accounts matching this regex, with one created every couple of months (the most recent one being Special:CentralAuth/NateHiggers69420666, which prompted me to come here). == Troubleshooting and problems ==

several entries
Hi!<br />
There are several blockings which are not necessary (for example) in de-wiki. Perhaps de-wiki is not the only wiki where some of the English entries are obstructive.
* /fu[c(k]k/: There is even a town called :de:Fucking. It's inhabitants are called "Fuckinger". If you have a look at a german telephone book, you will see, that there live some people called "fucker". and "muckefuck" is something like bad coffee.
* /orgasm/: I could not find a reason for blocking this.
* /bitch/: Couldn't this be more precised e.g. like /\ba bitch\b/?
* /[ck(]unt/: This forbids harmless names like "kunterbunt"
* /AIDS/: this should be case-sensitive.
Of course, for some of those requests I could use the german whitelist. But I guess, it is better to try centralizing the stuff concerning user names, because of SUL. -- seth 22:59, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
:Added casesensitive to the aids one and jews did. For the rest, I see no issues. These are account names. &nbsp;&mdash;&nbsp;<b style="color:#309;">Mike.lifeguard</b>&nbsp;&#124;&nbsp;<span style="color:#309;">@en.wb</span> 20:23, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
::Account names don't need to be real names. It's not uncommon to use names like "shadow", "mud", ... in english. a name like "kunterbunt" or "muckefuck" would not be very strange user names in germany either. -- seth 11:42, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

"jimbo"
Regex: .*j[iu]m(?:bo|my)( wh?ales)?.* <newaccountonly> <br/>
I am an ACC developer and a user from En Wikipedia. At ACC we help people with accessibility and blacklist issues obtain accounts by request. It has come to my attention that the regex mentioned above is stopping users from making accounts with the word "Jimbo" in them. Whilst we all know that Jimbo Wales is the founder of the Wikimedia Foundation, I and several others feel that Jimbo is a common nick & in some cases first name and that by itself does not warrant blacklisting and doing so would be just as bad as blacklisting "larry" (which thank god it's not). I also feel that anyone who may be interested in contacting Jimbo Wales will be well within their ability to tell Jimbo Wales from any other jimbo. Promethean 13:51, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
:I don't really know what you want done here. Can you be more specific? --MZMcBride 00:04, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
::Hi!
::The regexp <code>/.*j[iu]m(?:bo|my)( wh?ales)?.*/</code> is equivalent to <code>/.*j[iu]m(?:bo|my).*/</code>. That means that every "jimbo", every "jumbo", every "jimmy" and every "jummy" is forbidden. I agree with Promethean that this regexp should be removed or at least modified, e.g., by using
::<code>/.*j[iu]m(?:bo|my) ?wh?ales.*/</code>
::I'll do that. -- seth 18:38, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

The associated page is used by the TitleBlacklist MediaWiki extension, and lists strings of regular expressions that may not be used as page titles or usernames on any Wikimedia projects. Any Meta-Wiki administrator or steward can edit this blacklist.

For more information on what the title blacklist is for, and the processes used here, please see Title blacklist/About.

Please post comments to the appropriate section below: Proposed additions, Proposed removals, or Troubleshooting and problems, read the messageboxes at the top of each section for an explanation. Proposed additions[edit]

This section is for proposing that a page title be blacklisted; add new entries at the bottom of the section. Provide links demonstrating widespread creation by multiple users or IP's. Completed requests will be marked as done or denied and archived.

Proposed removals[edit]

This section is for proposing that a title be unlisted; please add new entries at the bottom of the section. Remember to provide the specific title or regex blacklisted, links to the articles they are used in or useful to, and arguments in favour of unlisting. Completed requests will be marked as done or denied and archived. The addition or removal of a title is not a vote, please do not bold the first words in statements.

Troubleshooting and problems[edit]

This section is for comments related to problems with the blacklist (such as incorrect syntax or entries not being blocked), or problems saving a page because of a blacklisted title. This is not the section to request that an entry be unlisted (see Proposed removals above).
