== Please reformat message to ja.wikipedia.org ==
== Regulating the flow, and directing it to another page ==

Hi! I don't know whether this is the best place to ask, but if not, maybe you could show me the way to a better place. First of all, btw: is this the system that delivers all globally sent messages in the Wikipedias?

* Is there any way to regulate how many messages are sent to the Village Pump and similar, of a Wikipedia?
* How do you do to make it so that the messages are left on another page instead?

(I've observed many small Wikipedias, where it seems the mass messages only stifles any actual activity on the Village Pump, and thus stifling communication in the first place/any communication at all.)

On ja.wikipedia.org, messages from "MediaWiki message delivery" are post to [[ja:Project:お知らせ/ウィキメディア共通]], and messages are included on [[ja:Project:お知らせ]](discussion:[[ja:Wikipedia‐ノート:お知らせ#財団さんからのお知らせと日本語版内部のお知らせを分けませんか]]). So, please change message's header from h2 tag(== xxx ==) to h3 tag(=== xxx ===), and post on section "[[ja:Project:お知らせ/ウィキメディア共通#ウィキメディア共通のお知らせ]]" . --[[User:Miraburu|Miraburu]] ([[User talk:Miraburu|talk]]) 04:24, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

: Hi, [[User:786r|786r]]. Yes, it is the system. There are some users who post messages manually and some who use their own scripts for this, but this is the default way to do this most people use. When you edit wikitext of MassMessage delivered message you can see an HTML comment that looks like <code><nowiki><!-- Message sent by User:MCruz (WMF)@metawiki using the list at https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Global_message_delivery/Targets/Community_Engagement_Insights&oldid=17293038 --></nowiki></code>. If you follow the link you will see the list used for the delivery (the concrete revision of it). It may be a normal wikitext page or sometimes it is a special kind of a page with MassMessage list content model. The first is normally editable, the second is like a form with add and remove buttons. If you think that some particular kind of messages is better to go to this rather than to that Village Pump you simply change the destination in the list and for any further messages sent to it new destination would apply. I am leaving it up to you to make sure that your view of the best destination resonates with your community's. If this wasn't clear enough or you just need more info I can provide you more links and examples, feel free to ask. --[[User:Base|Base]] ([[User talk:Base|talk]]) 22:26, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

:Hi @[[User:Miraburu|Miraburu]]. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the default Heading-level (h2->h3).

:MassMessage senders just use the interface shown here [[:File:Screenshot of MassMessage MediaWiki extension.png]]. It simply adds a new section to the bottom of whichever page is specified in the Distribution list that was used (per [[:ja:Wikipedia‐ノート:お知らせ#c-Miraburu-20220905084000-Miraburu-20220904084200|your listing]]).
:You could file a Feature Request for this in the Phabricator workboard ([[phab:tag/massmessage/]]), or contribute a patch. However, I would guess (I am not a developer) that it would be technically complicated to make a new setting ''that only applies to specific pages'', so that would make it more difficult, and thus unlikely to be implemented soon.

== Messages are delivered on a wrong page on Nias Wiktionary ==
Hi, not sure if this is the right place, but may I pelase ask for MassMessage sender's right, needed for the delivery of the [[CEE/Newsletter|CEE Newsletter]] once a month (usually first day of the month). Currently [[Global message delivery/Targets/CEE|the list of subscribers]] is small enough, but this may also be due to the fact that the problem with the automated delivery has not been yet solved. I am aware how to use the tool, as I have used it as administrator both on Bulgarian Wikipedia and on Commons. If this is not the right place to ask for this user right, I welcome any advice where is more appropriate to addess it. :) ''[[User talk:Spiritia|→]][[User:Spiritia|<span class='autocomment'>Spiritia</span>]]'' 17:56, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Can i request to massmessage support Ghanaian Pidgin Wikipedia, CentralAuth includes a huge list, so why not support this wiki? [[User:Notrealname1234|Notrealname1234]] ([[User talk:Notrealname1234|talk]]) 21:35, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
In March, we agree with other users in Tuscany to centralize our mass message list of Tuscan users on meta, as a form of respect of other it-N platforms and the users who are foreigners. I recycled the list on itwikipedia I prepared in 2016 [[Gruppi_locali_di_lingua_italiana/Toscana/Lista_utenze|in this page]] and I have to integrate it. Some of the users however don't have a meta userpage because they are old users who were not very active after the SUL passage but we would like to inform in any case. Other users who I will insert later are simply more active on wikisource or commons and should be informed there if possible. One user should be contacted on frwikipedia (even if he understands the message in Italian, he is more active there)

:@[[User:Notrealname1234|Notrealname1234]] It should already work, it's just that newer wikis are not shown in that account's CentralAuth table due to a technical issue ([[phab:T275931]]). If it's failing to deliver messages that were sent to that wiki, please file a new bug for that. I hope that helps. Last time that I prepared a mass message for users on many platforms I arranged the recipients in multiple lists, see [[User:Alexmar983/MassMessageList]], I put "discussioni utente" for it-N platforms and "user talk" for wikidata and commons in separate lists. I would like however this time to make a list that organize these users in the same space. Is this possible, or in the mass message system the target platform cannot be encoded in the lists of talk pages?

I sent a message to [[Global message delivery/Targets/Signpost]] for ''The Signpost'' monthly publication. The interface told me the message was sent and after a few minutes, there were zero queued messages. However, no one on the list received the message. I want to double-check before I try to send again. <span class="nowrap" style="font-family:copperplate gothic light;">[[User:Chris troutman|<span style="color:#345">Chris Troutman</span>]] ([[User talk:Chris troutman|<span style="color:#345">talk</span>]])</span> 15:52, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi, someone sent a MassMessage destination [https://fr.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Wikisource:Scriptorium&diff=prev&oldid=13611574 in the Wikisource:Scriptorium page] on the French wikisource. But that page is actually made of monthly pages, so it should have been sent to the [[wikisource:fr:Wikisource:Scriptorium/Octobre 2023|fr:Wikisource:Scriptorium/Octobre 2023]] page instead. I did the transfer, but please fix this if other messages are planned in the future. [[User:Seudo|Seudo]] ([[User talk:Seudo|talk]]) 16:38, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

:Thanks for the transfer and for the note here! You can find out which delivery list was used in a MassMessage by looking at the wikitext for the original message, which always ends with a hidden HTML-comment that links to the page used; in this case it was from [[User:SGill (WMF)/lists/WS VPs]], which I think I've now [https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:SGill_(WMF)/lists/WS_VPs&diff=prev&oldid=25765338 fixed] by copying from a working version elsewhere. When the word was first passed some time back that JSTOR and Wikipedia had reached an access agreement I was overjoyed. It soon turned out that access to JSTOR files was extremely limited and subject to a host of conditions. If things have changed then great, but if they're still the same I want no part of it. Wiki should reconsider their sleeping with the enemy. [[User:Paul venter|Paul venter]] ([[User talk:Paul venter|talk]]) 15:23, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Please reformat message to ja.wikipedia.org[edit]

On ja.wikipedia.org, messages from "MediaWiki message delivery" are post to ja:Project:お知らせ/ウィキメディア共通, and messages are included on ja:Project:お知らせ(discussion:ja:Wikipedia‐ノート:お知らせ#財団さんからのお知らせと日本語版内部のお知らせを分けませんか). So, please change message's header from h2 tag(== xxx ==) to h3 tag(=== xxx ===), and post on section "ja:Project:お知らせ/ウィキメディア共通#ウィキメディア共通のお知らせ" . --Miraburu (talk) 04:24, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Miraburu. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the default Heading-level (h2->h3).
MassMessage senders just use the interface shown here File:Screenshot of MassMessage MediaWiki extension.png. It simply adds a new section to the bottom of whichever page is specified in the Distribution list that was used (per your listing).
You could file a Feature Request for this in the Phabricator workboard (phab:tag/massmessage/), or contribute a patch. However, I would guess (I am not a developer) that it would be technically complicated to make a new setting that only applies to specific pages, so that would make it more difficult, and thus unlikely to be implemented soon.
I hope that helps. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 21:54, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
