NEW: Lists of technical resources and recommendations for smaller language wikis!
Hello everyone, As part of the Small wiki toolkits initiative, a Starter kit has been developed for smaller language Wikimedia wikis! This Starter kit lists resources, tools, and recommendations in technical areas (e.g., templates, bots, gadgets, etc.) relevant to smaller wikis that are just getting started. Small wiki contributors can use it to make their community's workflow easier. You can now use and promote the Starter kit in your wiki community, and start translating the landing page and its subpages in a language you want.

If you have any questions, ideas for venues where it should be shared or wiki pages where it should be linked, or any other suggestions for improving it further, please share on this talk page.

If you are interested in helping with the Small Wiki Toolkits initiative and can offer help with running workshops, developing toolkits, or exchanging problems and challenges in smaller wiki communities, add yourself as a member here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Small_wiki_toolkits#Members. --SSethi (WMF) (talk) 18:32, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

:Nice, have you thought of coordinating the content with Manual for small and new Wikipedias somehow? Nemo 22:56, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
:: Hi, thanks for sharing this manual! The resources and recommendations listed on the Starter kit are technical by nature, and the manual you have shared is more editing focused. So I am not sure how the two can be combined, but certainly to be included in the "See also" section. -SSethi (WMF) (talk) 07:39, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
:::Being complementary, interlinked and not overlapping is certainly one possible coordination strategy! Thanks, Nemo 15:03, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Am I being ghosted?

...or the WP equivalent thereof, on the Kinyarwanda WP? There's no administrator there, only one highly active editor whom I mentor, and my >100 edits in the last 30 days don't show me among the RW WP's active users, although they do appear as usual in my own User contributions page. An explanation would be appreciated, especially if any intervention is needed. -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 20:18, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Do you mean being displayed in rw:Special:ActiveUsers? That's a system generated list, and I have no idea why you aren't being shown on it. I don't think it's a conspiracy against you. – Ajraddatz (talk) 20:31, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Most peculiar. A bug, perhaps? --Yair rand (talk) 20:37, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
I made an edit to my userpage and reverted it, and I immediately appeared on the list. So it's not a caching issue. Might be worth filing a phabricator task about. – Ajraddatz (talk) 20:38, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

OP ETA: My recent edit count appears in the Xhosa WP (9 in the last 30 days) but not in Igbo WP where I made several dozen. I do show up in recent edits stats for the Yoruba WP and Zulu WP. I visit these five underserved African language WPs at least weekly, sometimes daily, so this is something I want to clear up before it slips any more. A phabricator task request is the way to go? -- Deborahjay (talk) 20:53, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Update: Phabricator task in process. -- 11:08, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Template:Translated page

The w:Template:Translated page is needed in the following language projects which have no Admin and few active editors:

 • Igbo
 • Kinyarwanda
 • Xhosa
 • Zulu

The text can remain in English until I can contact a native speaker of each language to substitute a translation. Thank you. -- Deborahjay (talk) 19:24, 21 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
