Hello! One of my subscribers from our MassMessage list reported to received the message twice. According to this log I only sent it once. It would be helpful to know if the error that happened occurred on my end so I can refrain from doing it again in the future. I am just new in using this tool. I hope you can give me some clarity on this matter. Thank you for your understanding.-- IBrazal (WMF) (talk) 14:05, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

Salûi! Someone could please switch the MassMessage target page in lij.wiki from Portale comunità to Community portal (comunicaçioìn in ingléize)? Actually the first page is a redirect to the second one and, since it's written in an other language, it will be soon deleted; thanks and best regards! --N.Longo (talk) 12:20, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

Best practices for a MassMessage distributed to all wikis

The 2030 Movement Brand project is organizing a call for feedback on naming convention proposals (see Preparing for feedback on the naming convention proposals). After months of work and discussions, it will be the first time when actual proposals for naming conventions will be presented by the team. Even if this project is working on a brand system for Wikimedia organizations (affiliates and the Foundation), there have been enough signs showing that this is a topic interesting to individual contributors across the board. The team strives to get feedback from as many contributors as possible, from as many projects as possible. MassMessage is a tool that can help achieving this goal.

Now, we are well aware of the difficult balance between informing and spamming when using MassMessage... massively. We want to do things right.

The call for feedback runs between May 7 and May 21. The plan is to publish the (short) announcement for translation on Monday May 4 latest. Ideally the message would be distributed on May 7 right after the presentation, but we can wait for i.e. better coverage of translations. We could also organize a distribution by phases instead of messaging all channels at once. Again, whatever is considered the best practice for this situation. Any thoughts? When you say "all wikis", how many targets do you have in mind? Gradual distribution is certainly an option.
Before sending the notification to many people you generally want to make sure that it's up to task for whatever purpose it has, that the targets match the expected audience and that the languages are appropriate.
Given there is already an ongoing RfC, it's advisable to make sure that there's consensus on the format of this new discussion will be. If you send thousands of notifications and the text is found to be biased, or otherwise deficient, you might then be forced to expensive corrections. Nemo 15:02, 30 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
By how many targets you mean number of people? We want to have at the very least 1000 survey participants, and 4000 would be a successful number. However, we would like to have participation from a wide variety of projects and languages, and this is why we are looking for ways to go beyond e.g. the big Wikipedias.
We will share the announcement here in Meta by Monday latest. Translations will be sourced with our own resources and then requesting help from affiliates and any translators willing to contribute to their languages. Messaging communities one language at a time would help proceeding with a gradual distribution, based on the availability of translations. Qgil-WMF (talk) 08:30, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

After considering this feedback, the comments from TomDotGov and further advice from community relations colleagues, we have decided not to use MassMessage for this campaign. Too redundant with simultaneous promotion efforts and too intrusive for being such a wide call. Thank you for your feedback. Qgil-WMF (talk) 10:45, 5 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

MassMessage delivery mechanicalism should be processed after the Language Selection function

This would been seen for quite a while already. If a MassMessage have multiple language, the Language Select function should be processed before storing onto a Wiki page in order to prevent the trigger by the Abuse Filter in local wiki. Please see the task in Phabricator. Shinjiman (talk) 02:06, 20 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Small problem

Hello! Today the MediaWiki message delivery in the Portuguese Wikipedia sent me a message on the Translation of the Week suggesting to translate an article that already existed on the Portuguese Wikipedia. Thanks, Erick Soares3 (talk) 09:48, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Erick Soares3: This page is just about the software that is used to deliver messages, not about the contents themselves.
At the bottom of each message is a hidden-comment (visible in editing mode, and your linked-diff) which explains who sent each message. It is best to contact those people if you have a question about a message you received. In this case, User:Shizhao, who you can contact at their usertalkpage, or at the talkpage of Translation of the week itself. I hope that helps.
