In the 1990s the company took out secret life insurance policies on employees. Upon discovering them, the families of employees killed on the job sued to get the money back. In 2002 National Convenience and Lloyd's of London settled with three families, paying them a total of $1,140,000 (${{inflation|USD|1140000|2002|r=2}} when adjusted for inflation).<ref>Sixel, L.M.
