Our mission is to create free and open channels for discussion and feedback, to promote movement news and activities, to help identify and reach out to new editors, and to recognize the good work our core community of volunteers is doing.

Social Media Team is comprised of Wikimedia Foundation staff who work in Communications (and historically Wikimedia volunteers, especially those who help with the annual fundraiser). The team currently includes Katherine Maher, Juliet Barbara, Tilman Bayer, Heather Walls, James Alexander, Michael Guss, and Joe Sutherland.

Our general policy is to maintain a four-eyes principle where every message proposed for the official social media accounts (e.g. @wikipedia and @wikimedia on Twitter, or on Facebook and Google Plus) is reviewed by at least one team member to minimize errors and typos. Most of this process is conducted via the public social media mailing list. You are welcome to suggest a tweet or Facebook/Google+ post for review by emailing the list at at social-media(_AT_)lists.wikimedia.org (with "-"), and to participate in the review process. Topics should be related to the Wikimedia projects and mission. List subscription is open to people who manage social media accounts for the specific Wikimedia projects, and to Wikimedians who would like to be actively engaged in the editorial discussions around social media related to the Wikimedia projects - please contact the list maintainers to join.
