Before posting here

If there is an active bureaucrat on the local wiki (type Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat), please ask them to fulfill your request using Special:RenameUser on the relevant wiki. Sometimes Project:RENAME redirects to the local request page and the Index of pages where renaming can be requested may also be used to help you locate the right page. If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect.

Making a request for your own account

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • a link to the local (old) user page, where you put a formless request with your local account

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. Please don't skip the last point even if there's no community on the project. Ensure that you don't request renaming another user. Please make sure before posting your request here that the username that you want to have is still free. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to the user contributions, the account already exists.

If you want to have changed your username on several wikis at the same time, please put a list of these wikis on one of your user pages and make sure that there is a link back to this page from all of the other user pages. Alternatively you can post a short request separately with all the user accounts to be renamed. Please give here only the link to the user page with your list and replace the "@ project" in the headline by "on several projects" or the like.

Making a request for an account that is not yours

If you want to have an account renamed because it's name is harrassing or insulting, or if it impersonates you or someone else, please include the following information in your request:

  • the account's name, including a translation into English, (if it's harrassing or insulting),
  • the wiki project on which you ask for the renaming,
  • the impersonated account (if the account is impersonating), this can be cross wiki.

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Jayvdb @ multiple projects

Mats Halldin @ sv.wikipedia

I request that w:sv:User:Mats Halldin on the Swedish Wikipedia be changed to w:sv:User:What-ever-123:

I used to be w:sv:Användare:Mats Halldin on the Swedish Wikipedia but I don't want my real name to be associated with that wiki any more. I can neither log in to that account or have a new password sent to me. I'm blocked both as Mats Halldin and w:sv:Joe de Coy so I can't make local requests. My old contributions and comments on talk pages are not important to me, I just want the account and its talk page to be gone. I guess the easiest way to achieve this is to rename the account to anything else and block both accounts permanently. --Mats Halldin 10:28, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am currently changing all my accounts where I have edit/s to later merge them into one global account. Originally, I changed one at a time and I wrote here since I Cornish Wiki didn't have bureaucrats but now I saw in the archive that one could change multiple names at the same time but I will keep the Cornish link if it's okay? SridharRatnakumar @ on English wikipedia

I request that w:en:User:SridharRatnakumar on the English Wikipedia be changed to w:en:User:NaiveCortex. Please, if possible, also change the talk page as well. Ratzer1 @ commons.wikimedia

I request that w:commons:User:Ratzer1 on the Wikimedia Commons be changed to w:commons:User:Ratzer:

(I have been uploading material as Ratzer1 for almost three years now. Shortly before starting this in September 2006, I had created the account commons:User:Ratzer, but lost the password, was locked out and was never able to use it again. Anyone doubting this can see that nothing was ever uploaded under that account name, and stewards might be able to verify that the account had not been accessed since September 2006 at the latest. Ratzer is my global name, in use in the de- en- es- fr- and other WPs, and it would be nice to be Ratzer on commons also, and move all my Ratzer1 work to the Ratzer account)

Requests for renaming an account of another person

Please add new requests on top (below this message). Sections should be titled your username@project name or your username@multiple projects and make sure you specify the exact account you want to be renamed in the text. For renaming other users' accounts there should be valid reasons, as are for instance insulting, intimidating or impersonating names. i want to change my user name flossie338 to buntbunt08
