Proposals for new projects

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This is an archived version of this page, as edited by John Vandenberg (talk | contribs) at 09:46, 30 November 2009 (→‎Rodovid (Genealogy Wiki): I did support this already; see rev 1636507). It may differ significantly from the current version.
This page hosts proposals for new Wikimedia projects, in line with the new project process.
  • To propose a new language for an existing project, see Requests for new languages.
  • To propose closing an existing project, see Proposals for closing projects.
  • To suggest an enhancement which requires a change to MediaWiki, file a feature request in Phabricator.
  • To propose enhancements to an existing project, visit that project and gather interest there.

+/-

Notes to consider

  • Hosting: Wikimedia Foundation is not a free hosting company. If your project does not fit the Foundation's ideals, download MediaWiki for free and install it on a server you control. Fandom (formerly Wikia) or another wiki farm are also options, but come at the cost of losing control of your project.
  • Need a dedicated project? Think well. Maybe your proposal fits better into one of the existing projects, for example, Wikipedia, Wikibooks, or Commons?
  • History: Individuals attempting to create a new project should read the Wikipedia timeline.
  • Be persistent. Don't take criticism personally. Some users are afraid of repeating mistakes from past projects. Going from an idea to a working wiki takes time and editing and sometimes software development. Be prepared for criticism; if it is a good idea, others will help you out!
  • Demo: It may be useful to start a demo of the wiki along with the proposal. Demo wikis can be created at Wikispore, which is a proposed wiki for seeding new WMF projects. You can also use Fandom, ourproject.org, or any other wiki farm.

The last project to be created was Wikifunctions in 2023. See the history of the project proposal page for Wikidata before it went live. The last one before that was Wikiversity in 2006. Some proposals below are suggesting adopting existing projects. The only time this has happened was when Wikitravel was forked as Wikivoyage and integrated into the Travel guide proposal in 2013. Creating new projects is extremely rare but not impossible. Please consider if what you are proposing is really a new type of information or educational project that cannot fit within the scope of existing projects.

Existing projects

see also the Complete list of Wikimedia projects

Some common proposals could be merged into one of these as a subproject:

Other content projects may be a good fit for what you have in mind:

Instructions

  1. Create an account and a user page on this wiki, so people can address questions to you.
  2. Create a page describing your plan: enter the project name in the box below and click the button.
  3. Link to your proposal from this page, below.
  4. Advertise your project! Good places to do so are on the Wikimedia Forum and the wikimedia-l mailing-list.

There was a proposed reform of new project process and a proposed community committee to develop a clear policy and documentation for sister project proposals, both of which are currently inactive. The de facto process is described below:

  1. Any proposal may only be approved by the Board of Trustees after a prominent discussion process and a broad and clear consensus (dozens and probably hundreds of supports are needed, and the proposal may be open for years)
  2. Any users in good standing may close or merge any proposal if:
    • it is clearly redundant to another project or project proposal, or is not a serious or intelligible proposal— i.e. jokes, trolling, proposals with extremely vague scope, and patent nonsense (tag "Procedurally closed");
    • it is stale and has few support after a considerable amount of time (tag "Stale");
    • it clearly has no consensus after a considerable amount of time (tag "Rejected").

  • The link to Wikifamily rdirects to a proposed project called Wikimorial related to the Sepmtember 11th attack on the world trade center. Also, there is a wiki about family trees at http://www.wikitree.org/ it is in the same software as Wikimedia but wether it aspires to be part of Wikimedia it doesn't say. For me it is a great idea but, of course, a long and slow growing project. ~ R.T.G 17:28, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Suggestion: as a timeline style wiki, what about merging in some of the notable timeline style wiki ideas below (especially related to historical development) such as, Wikitimeline, Wikidate, Wikihistory (maybe has its own support), Wikonstitution, Wikibibliography, Wikidata and (also I guess a historical/evolution project) Wikicode. As Wikifamily is bound to include some historical reference to place persons listed (such as what they book they wrote, what position they held, what invention they created etc.), it could also pool that stuff together as a sort of Wikiprogress or Chronopedia of stuff relating to human develpoment. I would imagine that Wikifamily would be dominated by influential and historical figures for signifigant time before average persons found their ancestry. As the tree of humanity would associated development be suitable? Possibly would generate additional weight to the wiki in the earlier stage. ~ R.T.G 19:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Further to my suggestion would be a chronology of words although no current new proposals are for one. ~ R.T.G 20:43, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It might also be beneficial to create two namespaces: one for the genealogies themselves, and one for information regarding going about genealogical work. Kurt Weber (Go Colts!) 03:04, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Differences between wikikids and wikichildren proposal: wikichildren offer to create different account for adults and children, the last having less privileges.
  • I would like to make a comment. I am a kid, and Simple English Wikipedia is simple enough for kids in my estimation. We also have wikijunior. To me, I also don't see it as good for the children's accounts to have less priveliges (sp?) because kids have the ability to do the same things adults do, like run their own wiki (that is mine). The encyclopædia should have no one below, no one above. Ionas68224 06:54, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Simple english WP only exists in english (yes !) They were no other simple language wikipedia opened after it. On the "demo" site in french, children don't have less privileges, the younger just are less likely to become sysop, that's all. Astirmays 18:59, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Simple English wikipedia is not necessarily for children, but for none native speakers of English. Redrocketboy 15:53, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    There is/was a simple French wikipedia I believe. The Flying Spaghetti Monster 22:19, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is a need for a kids version of Wikipedia. The main problem is that there are articles on the main version that are not appropriate for kids. This is also true on the simple version. Even if the English is fine, the content is not fine. By having a separate namespace or domain name, it makes it easier for external filtering programs to filter out the main material while allowing access to the age appropriate material. I think that by having one wiki with different namespaces, the needs of the different groups could be satisfied. I also think that there is a need for 3 different groups: Lower Elementary (preschool - 4th grade -- lots of pictures and sound with little text); 4th grade - 8th grade (more story format); 9th grade - 12th grade (standard encylopedia in simple English, but with moderated content. I don't think that kids wikipedia needs to have separate privs than adults. The SOP of the site should be a set of standards with an editing board (adults that are in charge, not children) who decide what is and what is not appropriate content wise for the site. Then just let external filtering programs take care of the rest. If the content is marked with some standards, filtering should be an easy task.
  • Comments about the target ages. I think that the high school students should be encouraged to be the editors. If they can explain a topic to somebody else, it means that they truly understand that topic. 69.120.135.108 23:07, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I don't think this project is necessary. I would support more Simple (language) on the Wikipedia namespace. Gosox5555 13:13, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Management team

Since MediaWiki has no interest in this project due to their "Freedom of Speech" issues, we, as a community, should seriously consider starting our own website that is not part of the MediaWiki corporation. Buying domain space that we can add code can cost as little as $50/year from Arvixe.com. That is a company that I have personally been a customer of, so I know their lowest cost for a development site (low bandwidth restrictions). I can handle the software part. Is there anybody else that can handle the business side in terms of setting up a non-profit corporation to accept donations? If you are interested in helping with the management side, please sign below with an indication of what skills you can offer.

  • Software Engineering Side (installation and modification of MediaWiki code)
  • Business side (donation, taxes, non-profit status, etc.)
  • Educators, validation of content, age appropriateness of content
  • Editors (Need an editorial board on a children's site)
  • Administrators (Main policy makers and administrator of the site)
  • Graphic designers (design logo, color scheme, graphics, etc.
Why don't you guys start this Paedia in Wikia? You seem to have some momentum, Wikia wikis pay themselves by advertisement, and you may define your own rules, AFAIK. Check that option. Lwyx 04:54, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would like to mention that this is a perennial suggestion to have some project related to the formation and distribution of musical content, with suggestions to have different markup systems within the MediaWiki software and to even be able to edit MIDI files or musical scores. There certainly are some interesting things that could be done with music in a collaborative fashion, and this particular project should not be completely dismissed. --Roberth 17:56, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • (In response to Pcu123456789) This should not be part of Wikisource. When people think of a library, they generally think of books, not sheet music. Putting this at Wikisource would cause it to be neglected. This should be it's own project. Galanskov 21:51, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, my public library has a whole wing filled with sheet music, scores and scripts. Perfectly reasonable contents for a source repository, although it is probably true that having this as a separate project would probably guarantee more traffic and more care.--starfarmer*comm 10:34, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Although it is going in a slightly different direction, you might want to take a look at [4] Topic is "Facebook choir/band/something like" in the Facebook group "Join this if you've played music with someone in it..." The group of ~35,000 members is looking into ways to collaboratively record (and potentially write) music. I think it could be tremendous if som:eone familiar with how to organize such a project got in touch with this group! Cmadler 16:31, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • IMSLP is a wiki based on the free sheet music on the internet with tremendous coverage, having extremely obscure pieces and most if not all of the main composers' works. The subject is not narrow, in my opinion, but many people could not participate without knowledge of notation or composition. Alton 04:18, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • IMSLP has some problems now. Maybe Wikimedia should help? Kj 19:45, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since IMSLP still has problem, may be it is time to revive the discussion on this project? see Wikimusic_II and WikiScores 82.124.131.76 21:16, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • It would be nice to have an easy way to make sheet music and MIDI files (maybe even with the same code). I've never heard of IMSLP, but I was using [5], which seems somewhat similar, recently, I found some music on it that I wished to play, but it was formated wrong for my instrument. It would have been nice have an easy way to change this, such as a wiki. Jkasd 01:01, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I love this project. Composition by all people. --Szawatschenski 01:00, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since IMSLP is up again, I think it would be an even more interesting prospect to try to convince IMSLP to join the Wikimedia foundation as WikiMusic.Theunixgeek 11:48, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've been doing a lot of work lately transcribing out-of-copyright music, and this would be great, to be able to upload my transcriptions somehow and save others the trouble. I think this makes sense as a some sort of sub-project of Wikisource. cmadler 20:19, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you could advise what moments i should pay attention especially if im creating wikiversity based on real university? It should be just portal in wikiversity.beta(Becouse language is Russian) or better be self-dependent project based on wikimedia engine downloaded from mediawiki website?

How to integrate my initiative of digitizing the real universtity courses to wikipedia format with main website wikiversity.org? For example history of computing course in our university is different from existed here already, so i should to do second version of it? --miostyle 14:12, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I like the idea. It could bring some more life into Wikiversity and attract academic editors for Wikimedia projects. It would also save money and time for university sysadmins. Matthias 16:08, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCurriculum

Proposers Marty - weissman.marty at gmail.com (September 1, 2007).   Mailing list request:
Overview A semantic framework for the development of flexible curricula and texts, in high-school mathematics (Algebra I - Precalculus) to begin with. It will be structured around three core concepts: blocks, facets, and threads. A block will be a unit of mathematical or pedagogical material (such as solving systems of linear equations). A facet will be a way in which to view the material (for the student, teacher, professional developer, mathematician, math historian, curriculum-developer, etc...). A thread will be a collection of blocks, linked with a purpose in mind, such as a coherent Algebra I curriculum, or a mathematically rigorous development of plane Geometry, or a short course for middle-school teachers.

Using semantic data (RDF triples), not only will the mathematical content be available, but also there will be information about which mathematical material must be understood before which other material (pedagogical dependency), as well as logical/mathematical dependency, and which problems assess/require which concepts. In addition, semantic data would encode which blocks correspond to NCTM (national) U.S. standards and state (California, Texas, Massachusetts, for example) standards. Standards from other countries will also be added.

In this way, a school district can build a curriculum, and perhaps a textbook, by snapping together blocks, ensuring all standards are satisfied, and ensuring that the material is presented in a pedagogically sound way. Or, for example, a teacher educator can build a curriculum for a short professional development course. Or, for example, a homeschooling parent can develop a sound curriculum for their child.

  • Some points:
    1. Note that for finding simple words translations, you absolutely don't need to create a new wiki, Wiktionary is enough for that (and there already exists external tools that can look for words in all Wiktionaries).
    2. Ideally, this wiki should have specific extensions, to really take into account the recognition of grammar, and allowing reordering sentences or finding inflexions where appropriate. Such extensions should also be able to get data from the existing Wiktionaries, with an internal cache for parsed and indexed Wiktionary articles.
    3. In addition, I would not name your project "TranslateWiki" but "TranslatorWiki" (once it will be able to translate sentences, rather than just simple words), which would more appropriate and would avoid the confusion with BetaWiki (which is also known as TranslateWiki, but related to the localization of MediaWiki, its extensions, and some other open-source projects, and that should really have a better name than "Beta", probably something like "LocalizeWiki").

WikiLanguageSaver

Proposers User:Alex1453 (7 April 2009).   Mailing list request:
Overview With more and more languages facing a dwindling number of users/speakers, there is a viable possibility that a wealth of knowledge and culture could be lost forever. In order to combat the danger of extinction, this proposal would strive to provide a detailed database of threatened and nearly extinct languages. As opposed to typical Wikipedia and Wiktionary articles, which are fantastic yet often single-faceted resources, the WikiLanguageSaver project would attempt to expand on these resources, by including information on such topics as vocabulary, pronunciation, and if available, written works. In addition to working under the auspices of the Wikimedia Foundation, this project also has the potential to attract a large amount of outside support through various language/cultural preservation organizations.

Scope

WikiTrivia is a proposed offshoot of Wikipedia. WikiTrivia pages will be made up of lists of trivia items collected regarding any and all topics.

This project is a response to the perceived negative impact of trivia lists in Wikipedia articles (see Wikipedia's Trivia guideline). WikiTrivia would serve as a place where Trivia sections in Wikipedia articles could be moved and retained, for those who are interested in reading and maintaining them, while no longer hindering Wikipedia's efforts to remain encyclopedic in article quality.

  • The only problem I have is surely, being limited to concise articles on important subjects, eventually editors will run out of things to write and then it will cease being a wiki. Because at some point, everything important enough to be included will have been written to the highest standard and then what will we do? Either it simply stops or it includes non-concise/non-important articles and then it stops being Essentialpedia. Thoughts? The Flying Spaghetti Monster 22:25, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Would not this project simply be offering a subset of Wikipedia? Essential topics should be treated thoroughly in Wikipedia, there is no real need to duplicate (or divide) writing efford, skills, etc. Thus creating Essentialpedia is:
    1. selecting the essential,
      1. This goal seems unrealistic to me. There are simply no clear-cut criteria to determine what is "essential". The project will crash in edit wars discussing whether some article is "essential". Better stick to wikipedias as comprehensive as each individual language allows, but more concise by concentrating in the introductions. Lwyx 00:40, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    2. improving Wikipedia articles on these essential topics to meet or exceed Essentialpedia standards,
    3. present them in Essentialpedia manner, and style.
      --Purodha Blissenbach 21:20, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • At some point I thought about proposing or joining something like a Concisepedia; now I see that it may be implemented as a Project within the individual language wikipedias following these criteria:
    1. by concentrating in the introduction to each individual article, so that the rest might only be an expansion;
    2. perhaps by devising a skin, so that it filters in the main intro and only gives access to the rest of the article on demand; this skin might be the default for WAP access, so perhaps the extra domain only points to that skin.
IMNSHO this way we avoid to duplicate tasks with individual language wikipedias. In conclusion, I'm not joining it, and I discourage people from joining. Sorry. Lwyx 00:40, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • This sounds like a terrible idea. This content can already be hosted on the various Wikipedia language editions. Just extract the content you want.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 06:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • We already have Simple Wikipedia, which doesn't get a lot of contributors (I think), and there is Veropedia, which is intended to "collect the best of Wikipedia's content, clean it up, vet it, and save it for all time (another project that seems stalled). So no, I don't think we need yet another fork. John Broughton 22:05, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • This good idea might be addressed by a scale already present in current (English) WP. The Version 1.0 Editorial Team's "importance of topic" scale is used widely in many WikiProjects. Picking up "High"-rated articles should do the job. / If the need for a separate site is high, (that is, higher than my imagination,) I think it would work better as an automated mirror of the current WP, not a separate project. The Essentialpedia editors would only maintain the list of articles that would be mirrored. / Then again, I still believe that this Essentialpedia idea could be worked out within the current WP framework. --朝彦 (Asahiko) 16:19, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I object to this. Its function is already covered by Wikipedia and working towards these goals would be less productive as a separate project. Fewer, broader Wikimedia projects allow for greater efficiency and greater potential. There should only be separate projects if they cover different, non-mutual types of content, which is reflected in the current make-up of Wikimedia projects: an encyclopedia, a dictionary, a media repository, a text repository, &c. --Oldak Quill 19:02, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Query: how would this project differ from Simple Wikipedia? --Kralizec! 19:32, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We would assume that everyone reading is fluent in English (I'd imagine), and simply concentrate on making it concise, not on basic English. DavidWS 19:14, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Something where we can pull up a map of, say, England, and click on the language links to see the names in foreign languages, and click on that language's article on that city, village, or whatever. Constitutions may form the basis of a nation's laws, but they are followed by laws, regulations, ordinances, judicial interpretations and precedents, etc. Very hard to keep track of what is still legal and what isn't. Additionally, there are still laws on the books that need to be revisited. Some are ridiculous by today's standards, some are no longer politically correct. Even in our internet age, books are very important source of knowledge. The biggest problem is to find them. Even the catalogues of the greatest libraries are far from being complete. But, as experience shows, wikicommunity can do what great institutions cannot. The aim of wikibibliography is to become the great bibliographical catalogue. Each book will get an article with such information as author, publisher, year of publishing, ISBN. And of course, each article will have categories (by book's language, by topic..). It will be very useful for any researcher.

If you are proposing that Wikipedia have an option to use Wikisaurus in editing, you should probably bring it up in w:Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals) or possibly at the Wikipedia Usability Initiative instead of this page, which is for new projects. --Yair rand 12:15, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiBiographies (wikibio)

I opened [9] so that trivial biographies, and trivial facts, and trivial events unsuited for wikipedia, can be entered.

Here you will find verified details about people who may be not that important to the general public, but definitely important to a certain family or nationality. This wiki will host seemingly unimportant details, facts and even rumors, as long as a source can be verified, and as long as the fact is not disputed and proven to be defacement or against known fact.

Here you will also find disputes and discussions about the biographies, and a history of the biography making, and of the shown facts (pictures, books etc) - a meta biography. I hope this succeeds, and more important, I hope I am not doing something which already exists... Pashute 16:36, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

BioWiki

Ummm, what is this supposed to be? --Yair rand 15:31, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A Wiki for all bios of people. 72.73.125.14 16:07, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Any reason why biographies would have their own project instead of being held on Wikipedia the way they are now? --Yair rand 17:07, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just putting it out there Yair rand you never know someone might come around and want to contribute to it. Seabanks 03:09, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I do not understand. Contribute to what? People could only contribute to it once it became a project, which it most likely won't because it overlaps with an existing project. Or, if you are not proposing a new project but attempting to advertise an existing one as you did above, please be aware that that is NOT the purpose of this page. --Yair rand 04:25, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MyWikipedia

Proposers User:subcomandante84 (04 October 2009).   Mailing list request: none yet
Overview MyWikipedia, customization of Website, or social communities has become a trend, you have it on myspace, facebook, or all the other social communities. What i would mean with MyWikipedia would mean, that the user could choose, the layout of his Wikipedia, change the colour, fonts, regroup his own Wikipedia Startscreen. There are people who are not interested in all categories of Wikipedia, so they could get the themes there are interested in, and without having to search for long, they sign in through MyWikipedia and with every LogIn they get there customized Wikipedia Startpage, they see on a chronik which articles they have read and get suggestions for articles which could be from interest to them. Web has become interaktiv today, the user wants to customize his favourite pages like he wants. Its not my thinking, but a lot of people nowadays are thinking like that, and perhaps they are bored of the everytime same Startscreen of Wikipedia, its not a critic, its not my thinking, but there are people thinking like that. But for gathering more users perhaps sometimes its not that bad to follow trends.

Wikiimprove

Proposers User:subcomandante84 (30 September 2009).   Mailing list request: none yet
Overview Wikiimprove would be an own Wiki were you save the articles which are deleted from Wikipedia due to quality problems. Like i understood the idea of the Wikipedia Founders they wanted to creat a modern biblioteca alexandria, a collection of the knowledge of the world. If you delete an article,

the knowledge and also the work of the article, is lost forever, i would classify the articles by quality and articles which can be improved could be saved for the community. So people with special knowledge of certain themes can help people who have perhaps not that knowledge of a certain theme, and so cooperation and also the community aspect of Wikipedia would be maintained. I just read an article of a newspaper who was writing how much articles are being deleted and found that a little sad.

Overview Documentation of the development (evolution) of Wikipedia, you can browse through the former Versions of Wikipedia f. ex. 2004, 2005, 2006..., you see the new changes: new uploaded pictures are in the category new uploaded pictures and the new articles in the category new articles, these are functions which are already in Wikipedia, but here everything would be better categorised and collected in one the Wikivolution Wiki, you see the dataamount of the different versions former, new ones, statistics about the user are made, how much data the user uploaded, how much articles, words he wrote on Wikipedia. Its a project to document the Wikipedia for future generations.

  • What would be the purpose of this project? All former revisions are saved as are lists of user contributions. You just click the History tab at the top of the page to see old revisions. Why would we need a separate project to document changes? --Yair rand 14:21, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I thaught that project as a documentation of the wikipedia, the more Wikipedia grows the more Information it contains, and the more unclear it gets, so by creating a project beside where the evolution of the wiki is stored and documented, it would be first more clear, and you would also have better possibility to search for specific changes, by categories, Time, date,... You could see statistiscs, user related, articles related,... It is not meant as a replacement of the current history, but much more a compliment to show the big changes and steps of Wikipedia, ok was it was just an idea, i just had a few ideas in my head which i wanted to share with the project, and wanted to contribute something to the project.

Wikipass

Proposers User:subcomandante84 (04 October 2009).   Mailing list request: none yet
Overview Wikipass is an own Database were your user information are saved, the benefit of Wikipass would be that you would no longer need a password for every Wikimedia project but u could login in each project with your wikipass, this would also prevent that people register twice. Of course Wikipass would not be editable for everybody, because of reasons of anonymity and protection of personal information.

Mobile and offline wikis

WikiMobile

Proposers 7cows (28 - December - 2006).   Mailing list request:
Overview a Mobile Wiki page for each Wiki page. This function would allows users to select a summary of text for users on the go (like mobiles) or using devices with limited screen space. Main reason why this would be more sucessful then google: Users on Cellphones (mobiles) generally are paying for Internet data traffic, slow connection and limited small screen to sift through wanted info. A google search would most likely turn a lot of unwanted websites that don't address info that user is specifically looking for and not in a mobile friendly format. If a WikiMobile search was put in place all mobile search requests would be easy to access and a super convenient tool to have on the fly.

  • Well, We all know w:en:Texperts and AQA. These companies respond to SMS questions from the UK via a shortcode. So you text in your question, and you get back an answer in 160 characters. "Who is Bill Gates", or "What is turkey stuffing made of", or "What's the date for easter this year". A similar (perhaps commercial too) wiki can be made, where articles are limited to 1 text (160 characters), or maybe two, such that a person can text in their question ("Bill Gates?", "Turkey Stuffing?", "Easter 2008?") to WikiSMS, and would get the answer immediately. The answers will be set by the community, it will be less work than existing projects, and we already have millions of articles which can be used to extract info from to fit into one SMS. Something to think about !! and dont forget me when you start making millions with this idea wikimedia foundation !!! ;).
