Your admin blocks on English Wikipedia

Hi Just Step Sideways Almost 3 years ago you blocked my account on the English Wikipedia indefinitely. You claimed I was abusing basic policies but did not specify which policies. You provided no warning to me.

Have you blocked other users for long term abuse of basic policies? Have you blocked other users without a warning?

Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 20:43, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

I've blocked literally thousands of users for just about anything you can imagine. What warning they got is highly variable depending on the exact circumstances. I think it's important if you intend to move forward that you understand that trying to make this about me instead of about you is highly unlikely to get the result you want. It's up to you if you want to play it that way, but just to be clear: I'm not going to allow myself to get baited into playing it that way, here, there, or anywhere else.
And on that point, it isn't exactly accurate to say you got no warning. I may not have left a warning template on your talk page, but I did explicitly say in the conversation here (which you were informed of and chose not to participate in) that I was seriously considering blocking you. Your editing history shows that you were editing while that discussion was underway, so one can only assume that you chose to ignore it. I also think the block notification still visible on your talk page was sufficiently clear about what the problem was.
If I'm being honest, I was rather surprised you never bothered to even ask to be unblocked, I would've thought someone with your level of experience wouldn't want to just walk away and would prefer to resolve the underlying issues, but again that was entirely up to you and you decided not to pursue it.
And, not to put to fine a point on it, don't expect that any discussion here on Meta is ever going to lead to your EN.WP account being unblocked. It will not. I would, however, consider re-granting talk page access if you want it explicitly for the purpose of appealing the block. You are also free to appeal using the unblock ticket request system at any time. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:52, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I appreciate your openness.
I am not permitted to edit en-wikipedia any more, but I still try to use it to find unbiased information. This is not about me or you, it is about what information gets and what information does not get into wikipedia. There are millions of editors on wikipedia and there are thousands of administrators on the English Wikipedia. If every admin indefinitely blocked "thousands of users for just about any reason one can imagine" there would be very few participants left to contribute and the information would inevitably become biased.
I doubt I will ever regain my enthusiasm for editing wikipedia. You are assuming, incorrectly, that I posted to your page because I wish to be unblocked. This is not the case.
I posted to find out why I was blocked in the first place, and why I was not afforded the customary notice provided to other wikipedia users. I do not believe I abused any wikipedia policies
Sincerely,
