CVNBOT1 for en.wikipedia

Not sure the right forum for this, but I just noticed that CVNBOT1 on IRC flagged an edit I made as possible Copyvio? for placing a welcome template. Perhaps there is something that might need to be tweaked to avoid this. Tiggerjay (talk) 00:50, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Recommended tools for fighting vandalism

Hi folks! I have a few questions. A few months ago, through a workshop series as part of the Small wiki toolkits initiative, we learned that one of the Indic community's challenges is a lack of knowledge of tools to fight vandalism on wikis. Indic community involves 25+ smaller language wikis. We are considering organizing a workshop in December for the community in which the focus would be on counter-vandalism tools and how to use them.

  • As there are many ways to fight vandalism on wikis (tools, bots, extensions, etc.), could you share the recommended processes or tools that we should promote more?
  • Would a member of this group be interested in running a hands-on workshop around this topic for contributors from the Indic community sometime in December? If not, who else would you recommend I should reach out to? I would much appreciate your thoughts! Thanks! SSethi (WMF) (talk) 04:36, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@SSethi (WMF): Well there are many ways to track and fight vandalism such as dedicated IRC Channels, Global Abuse Filters and toolforge based tools such as SWViewer.
I have been patrolling small wikis using all of them for some time.
On IRC one can join a dedicated channel such as #cvn-swconnect for small wikis and bot will streamline the recent edits from small wikis with some indicators (mostly color changes) to differentiate between edits.
Global abuse filters are tricky to understand but they help alot in tracking spambots with certain patterns.
SWViewer is a Toolforge based tool which also streamline recent changes from small wikis, the difference is that unlike IRC one can revert, edit or tag the bad edit within the tool.
These methods are not that difficult to understand but if you need any help I am more than happy to do so. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 04:06, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@1997kB: Thank you so much for sharing this advice! We were planning a workshop on this topic, so I asked this question here. I might follow up with you for further help on this topic when it comes up:) SSethi (WMF) (talk) 08:24, 16 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Can we have an AIV feed a bot posts on IRC?

I used to have one but then the toolserver changed and somehow an account isn't easy to come by, now... ~Lofty abyss 07:20, 29 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Informing this project about new wikis

Each time a Wikimedia wiki is created, the initial setup work on it is supposed to be finalized using a "post-creation work" task on the Phabricator. For example, here's the one for kcgwiki, which was created back in May of last year (the wiki, not the task): phab:T305281. There are several such tasks that have remained open for months after the corresponding wikis were created because the "Inform the CVN project for IRC monitoring" item in the checklist has not been marked as completed.

So, what are y'all supposed to be getting "informed" about, exactly, and how? Is it sufficient to just post something here saying that a certain wiki has been created, or is there more to it? If it's the former (or even if not), then here's a list of the recently created wikis for which the "Inform CVN…" item has not been marked as completed in the corresponding Phabricator task (these are also listed at phab:T327996):

How should this notification be handled in the future, so the post-creation work can be completed as quickly as possible? - dcljr (talk) 12:20, 29 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @dcljr: I proposed to @Ladsgroup adding that checkbox on the post-creation tasks that his bot creates for the wiki-setup process. Adding the wiki to the CVN bots is not a blocker for the wiki creation, and posting a note here should be enough for the notification to be considered performed. I or any other user with access can later add those wikis to the bot config so they can be patrolled by the SWMT. I'll see if I can add those today. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 14:16, 29 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
It has not delayed wiki creation, only the closure of the "post-creation work" tasks. Will you be closing those tasks? - dcljr (talk) 00:39, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Dcljr: I can do that. I couldn't add those wikis to the bots yesterday because of a permissions issue. I'll close the tasks as soon as I get them added. Thanks again. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:49, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Wikis loaded to the CVNBots and tasks closed accordingly. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 00:23, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello there, I made a request on February 15 at CVN channel requesting voice for #cvn-sw, #cvn-meta, #cvn-mediawiki, #cvn-commons & #cvn-simplewikis. Could someone from staff please process my request? See account confirmation. Many thanks, Tulsi 24x7 10:33, 7 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
