Dear Wikimedians of Cameroon:

Thank you very much for your proposal, describing your activities and projects in support of the Wikimedia projects and the Wikimedia movement. The Regional Funds Committee has initially reviewed the proposal, and wishes to offer some initial feedback and questions for your review.

The committee sees several strengths in your application, that you are focused on well-known and direct activities, that you are training several different regions within Cameroon, and that you have developed several partnerships with Goethe Institute and the French Institute in Cameroon.

It would be supportive of the Committee’s understanding of your plans if you’d be so kind as to  elaborate on our following specific few questions:

  • Implementation schedule. The committee would  like to get a better understanding of the timeline of your stated activities. May you share an implementation schedule or timeline of activities planned for your applied grant period?
  • Outcomes. Based on what you shared in terms of programming, the committee is curious to learn more about what are the expected outcomes for each program? For example, what are the outcomes expected by the end of the grant period for strengthening the community’s institutional arsenal, or training of trainers?
  • Campaigns. The committee would like to know more about how the campaigns that you have selected connected to your objectives and areas of work?
  • Community engagement and feedback. Could you share more on how you included your community of volunteers in the planning of your proposal? And how do you plan on incorporating the community in your work throughout the year?
  • Location of activities. May you please share whether the proposed activities and strategies will be held in all four regions or whether different programs will be held in each of the regions?
  • Partnerships. May you please share further on how the partnerships that you have developed are being utilized to strengthen your activities and impact?
  • Online engagement. To what extent have you used online engagement to support your activities and work over the last period of work.
  • Staffing. It appears that you plan on increasing the number of staff for the Wikimedia Cameroon user group. The committee is curious to learn more on how you plan on selecting these staff members. Has this staffing plan been informed by conversations with community members? And what is the current capacity and how has the previous activities implemented last year informed this staffing plan? To what extent have you included experienced users and volunteers from the community in the activities implementation and encouraged them to be part of the organizers and governance teams?
  • Metrics. The committee wanted to understand how the user group decided on the target metrics for the Wikimedia projects that they will be working with.
  • Updating the user group Meta page. The committee strongly recommends that you update your meta page to reflect current projects, the team members implementing the projects and members of the governance body.
  • Budget-related questions. After reviewing the budget, the committee had a couple of questions with regards to your budget for your elaboration:
    • Campaigns. May you please share a breakdown of the campaigns section of your budget? For example, the committee would like to understand the breakdown of the expenses of Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Folklore, Lumieres sur les Femmes, Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos.
    • Coordinator roles. The committee wanted to confirm that you are allocating approximately 8,000 USD for four coordinators for twelve months full-time.
    • Programs by region. Are the programs ""Formation des nouveaux et anciens bénévoles à la contribution sur Wikipédia et ses projets frères"" and ""Recrutement de nouveaux bénévoles"" run in four regions? And is the indicated budget for each program for one time or for four times?
    • Rental of venue space. It appears that one of your partners provides free space, however there are rent costs in the budget. The committee was curious to understand how the partner is supporting with free venues and space? And may you share more on the role of the partners in the program activities?

Regarding the schedule for our review process, please complete your review and responses to committee feedback by the 1st of May 2024. After this time, the Regional Committee will begin a final review of the proposal to make a formal decision.

Thanks again for your work on the proposal and for supporting our review.
