Global sysop for Mathonius
- Global user: Mathonius (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hello, I'd like to apply for global sysop access. I have been a member of the Small Wiki Monitoring Team since June 23th 2011 and was granted global rollback privileges two months ago (here). As an administrator on nl.wikipedia (since October 2010; here) and meta (since August 2011; here), I've gained experience in using these tools and I understand the corresponding responsibilities. Global sysop access would greatly improve my ability to help protect and maintain the smaller wiki's. I understand the role global sysops are supposed to fulfill (the local communities are key and consensus may not be overrided) and I will always respect that. Feel free to ask any questions you might have. I'm able to communicate in both Dutch and English, and (with difficulty) in French and German. Thanks for your consideration, Mathonius 05:19, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Global sysop for SPQRobin
- Global user: SPQRobin (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hi, I'm a bureaucrat/admin on Incubator, member of the language committee and MediaWiki software developer. I'd like to have global adminship so I can do maintenance work. For example, in a few weeks MediaWiki 1.18 will be deployed which includes a conversion script I made for Inuktitut, so I can clean up the Inuktitut Wikipedia (iuwiki). I also improved RTL support, so it would be useful if I could correct MediaWiki:Common.css pages on wikis that need updating. I also often import content when new wikis are created, so these rights can be useful as well then (now, temporary admin rights are given when needed). It can also be useful to delete a few redundant MediaWiki namespace pages on small wikis (there are lots of them, but deleting all of them apparently would need community consensus). My main intention is not fighting vandalism, but when I come across vandalism, I'll certainly delete/revert it. Thank you, SPQRobin (talk) 13:53, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- This is a must for Robin. Strong support.

- Support, sure, but please notice, that GS sadly isn't allowing importupload (only import) so that the devs. still need to per hand set import sources. - Hoo man (talk) 14:13, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah I know, I'll still have to request importupload right each time. SPQRobin (talk) 16:37, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- Support - But of course. Please note that what Hoo man says above is true (and I don't think global sysops needs "import" either). However I don't agree that it's a bad thing because misuse of import can disrupt the wiki very seriously thus needs to be controlled. Notwithstanding if a new wiki is created and you need to import things for LangCom ask and we will give you the rights. -- Marco Aurelio 14:22, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

- Comment afaik SPQRobin will use gs tools in the best way but just a question, what about editinterface tools + upload_by_url right? I think it will work even better for him. --Vituzzu 16:32, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- Global sysops have editinterface right, and upload_by_url is (afaik) for uploading images, which I don't intend to do. SPQRobin (talk) 16:37, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- Wops I meant importupload, anyway gs can edit pages on a certain number of wikis while, afaik, editinterface let you modify js & css everywhere. --Vituzzu 16:48, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- Importupload is not included in GS group. Ruslik 19:10, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yep, that's why I wrote + importupload ;) --Vituzzu 10:12, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

- Support -- I actually thought that Robin already has global sysop permissions. That's logical, as he needs rights for small wikis, while they are in the process of creation. --Millosh 00:26, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Striker
- Global user: Striker (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Sometimes I am affected by a local block applied to 189.27.0.0/16 (talk • contribs • block • xwiki-contribs • CA • ST • lwcheckuser), wrongly identified as open proxy, on some projects. It happened now when I tried to revert this edit. I'm requesting this to not take effect of some undue blocks for supposed open proxies anymore. Striker talk 14:31, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- Global IP block exemption only works against global blocks. If you're affected by a local block (as seems to be the case here), you would need to apply for an exemption locally. Jafeluv 14:58, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- I thought this would solve the issue. That IP range is blocked as open proxy on many wikis. Althrough they don't always affect me and I can evade them by restarting the router, these blocks are still a nuisance. A global flag would work better in my eyes. Striker talk 15:24, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- Comment If the option Bypass IP blocks, auto-blocks and range blocks (ipblock-exempt) was checked at this page, global IPBE would work against those local IP blocks. I don't know if you're allowed to make such change or are willing to discuss about it, however I don't see an issue for it to not be done. The accounts with the global flag will still be able to be directly blocked if a local community decides to do so. Striker talk 16:47, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- The option of overriding local blocks was never in that group. We created this group for users having problems with global blocks. You should seek local IP-block-exemptions. Annoying, yes. -- Marco Aurelio 18:24, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
