This page hosts requests to stewards and global renamers for a username change across the entire Wikimedia network. Please read the instructions before posting a request.

This is also the page where the usurpation of inactive accounts can be requested.

Instructions

SUL finalization

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.


Simple rename requests

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications

Shortcut:

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least one month before usurpation.

@TenWhile6 Sorry to disturb you, but I'm proposing to change the target name to Zzzs. The initial name can be easily impersonated due to the letters, something that I didn't take into account while choosing. The new name might look easy to impersonate, but the number of similar named accounts makes impersonation more difficult. Also, the target account has zero edits. WildMouse76, you know that the usurpation process has already started once I informed the user? Okay, technically I can now change the target name and the process starts again, but the Global rename policy states: The new name is carefully selected. Trying to change the target name two days after the initial request does not look like a careful selected name.
Please confirm, that you really like to be renamed to Special:CentralAuth/Zzzs via usurpation and you like to keep that name for a while. You have to be sure about that. TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 06:22, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you changed your username just a few days ago, and we generally don't approve rename requests within six months of the previous rename. Given that you are a user in good standing, I am willing to grant your request. I also noticed that you have a large block log on azwiki, but all of the blocks were temporary and have since expired, so I don't see any issues there. @Kholat Syakhl, I wasn't referring to this particular request. You mentioned that you swear this is your last request, so I replied that there's no restriction on you. You can make another request in the future if you want to change your username again, but that request should be made after a reasonable amount of time (one year).
