Instructions
SUL finalization
If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.
How to add an entry here
To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.
=== Oldname ===
{{SRUC

For global rename requests: === Example === {{SRUC |status = <!--don't change this line--> |domain = global |Oldname = Example |Newname = Foo |reason = your remarks here --~~~~ }} |
Making a request for your own account
For changing your username on one wiki:
Please include the following information in your request:
- the old username,
- the new username,
- please sign
~~~~
request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).
If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.
Private requests
Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.
Simple rename requests
If your rename request requires no stewardship, you have two options:
- Use the (new) request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
- Utilise the manual process outlined above, and submit it below in this section.
Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@global if you wish to be globally renamed. Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.
Kupeertje@global
- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: Kupeertje (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: S.Kuperus (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Confirmation difflink: [https:// diff-link to the local request on your local talk-page for example]
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: Always used this name on other accounts. The username S.Kuperus is free by my knowledge but I could not fill it in, because someone in England has the same surname and initials and it would 'look too much the same', but the username I would like is still free. Could you please try to change it for me? Thanks in advance.
eno@global
- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: eno (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Eno-enwiki (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Confirmation difflink: [1]
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: Its quite possible that the other "eno" accounts on other domains are actually mine too (especially if they share the domain name in the email addresses associated with the accounts, which are likely to be either bitblit.net or a GMail address). In which case the rename would be unnecessary. I would like to keep my original 'eno' username in other words.
Requests involving usurps or other complications
Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username@project name .
Please note that stewards are still awaiting the global merge tool, and will deal with those requests we can now, and park merge requests on a pending page until the tool is available.
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: I have been using Copyleft user name on many wikimedia projects since 2008 but in english. Indeed User:Copyleft was created in 2004 but never contributed to Wikipedia in english since then. So i would like remplace Eurobas into Copyleft to use a Single User Login for all WM projects. Thanks, --Copyleft (talk) 10:55, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi @Copyleft:, if you would like to usurp unattached en wiki account that can be done, so that you can use copyleft on en wiki too. Also if my understanding is correct, you want to merge Eurobas into copyleft account, it won't be possible for now because the user merge tool is still in development--Shanmugamp7 (talk) 11:21, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Shanmugamp7: we should be able to move out/usurp the enWP account, and move in the replacement. Just will need to get user to align passwords/passwords. We would need a confirmation of the Eurobas account to be moved and merged. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:09, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Eurobas and Copyleft: if you can have the Eurobas username confirm that it is to be merged, we can move this to the "pending" file for merges. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:11, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Eurobas and Copyleft: please confirm, otherwise we will mark this request as stale and archive it. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:20, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
Kontos@global
- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: Kontos (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Sanyi4 (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Confirmation difflink: [3]
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: Some years ago I started to rename my old account "Kontos" to "Sanyi4", requesting username changes locally, one-by-one. I haven't managed to get renamed on all wikis by now. The problem is, I don't own the global account for Kontos (I used to), and according to the emails I'm getting, all local accounts I have with the name Kontos, will be renamed to local-wiki-specific alternative names, for the sake of the SUL finalization. I propose instead that local Kontos accounts be renamed to Sanyi4. (Problem two: On many local wikis, the name Sanyi4 is already existing -- conflicting Sanyi4 accounts should be renamed to "Sanyi4 (usurped)"). The list of wikis, where Kontos is to be renamed to Sanyi4: User talk:Sanyi4#SUL finalization: accounts to be renamed
- @Sanyi4: You have the global account under this name. What we can look to do is to merge those pertinent accounts from Kontas. We will need for you to login to each of the relevant accounts under Kontas and identify which are to be merged. Some may be able to do soon, others will need to wait until the global unification process is further progressed. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:00, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst: (I did not own the global user for Kontos, if you meant that.) Now the local Kontos accounts are being renamed to Kontos~xy, many have been renamed already. I tried to use Special:GlobalRenameRequest, but that doesn't work for target accounts that already exist. -- What do I have to do to have all the remaining individual Kontos/Kontos~xy accounts renamed to Sanyi4? Where do I have to request it, if not here? How long do I have to wait? -- Sanyi4 (talk) 22:52, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Sanyi4: We need a list of the Kontos… accounts to be merged, where each of these accounts you have logged into and confirmed each from its user account. Once we have that list, AND following the availability of the merge tool we can look to undertake the merges. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:13, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
Sol@nlwikibooks
- Wiki: nl.wikibooks.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: Sol (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Sol (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Confirmation difflink: [4]
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: Mijn naam mag niet wijzigen. Ik ben bekend onder de naam Sol op het bijbehorende forum, het is een personal brand waar jaren aan is gewerkt.
- Beste Sol, ik stel uw bijdragen zeer op prijs en het is inderdaad zeer onprettig dat uw naam, waar u onder bekend staat op Wikibooks, hernoemd is. Echter zoals reeds op uw overlegpagina op Wikibooks is uitgelegd zijn er helaas twee mensen met de naam Sol. Daarom is gekeken door een automatisch programma wie de naam het beste kan krijgen. De Duitse bijdrager heeft 10x meer bijdragen dan u. Toen u in 2011 begon op Wikibooks was de Duitse gebruiker al 7 jaar op Wikimedia actief. Verder is de Duitse gebruiker in de afgelopen jaren actiever dan u. Ik denk dat de Duitse gebruiker een goede aanspraak heeft op de naam. Graag wil ik u daarom vragen een andere naam te kiezen. Met vriendelijke groet, Taketa (talk) 09:45, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- U doet een aanname. Heeft die andere gebruiker überhaupt wel bezwaar gemaakt tegen een naamsverandering? Verder stamt de laatste edit van de Duiste Sol uit 2012. Overigens als ik de Sol gebruiker opzoek in User_talk:Sol#Your_account_will_be_renamed, dan staat er op die pagina te lezen:
Your account here on the English Wikipedia is not eligible to have a cloak (less than 250 edits)... If you don't own either of those accounts, I can't set you a cloak
- Daarop volgt verder geen reactie, dus ik verwacht dat dat niet een en dezelfde eigenaar was.
- (Ik heb overigens ingelogd, maar mijn UID wordt nog steeds niet herkend.)
- Verder vind ik op de Duitse gebruiker helemaal geen 10x meer bijdragen en al helemaal niet in volume. Blijkbaar wegen het aantal projects zwaarder dan het aantal edits. Maar het project waar ik aan werk is een BOEK en niet een artikel! Rond dat boek bevindt zich een gehele community. Ik heb de "andere" Sol's 6 edits found in 9 projects doorgekeken, maar dat is qua volume minder. Ik snap dus niet waarom ik minder recht op het behouden van mijn naam zou hebben dat die anderen?
- Er kloppen meer dingen niet. Wanneer ik die inactieve Duitse Sol user opzoek, dan zit deze in de usergroup: "autoreview". Als ik doorklik op de artikelen waaraan hij gelinkt is en ik kijk in de history daarvan, dan komt Sol niet eens voor in de lijst van editors. Het hele zaakje stinkt wat mij betreft om de volgende redenen:
- De gebruiker is niet actief - Bewijs van zijn zogenaamde 1.600 bijdragen is niet te vinden. Hij komt bijna nooit voor in de artikelen waaraan hij gelinkt is. - Heeft die inactieve gebruiker ooit bezwaar gemaakt tegen een rename van de naam Sol? - De gebruiker lijkt geautomatiseerd edits te hebben gemaakt omdat die in de groep "autoreview" zit.
82.173.40.9 10:40, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- Beste Sol, zie [5]. Zoals te zien heeft de Duitse gebruiker 1600+ bijdragen. Klik op het nummer en je krijgt de bijdragen te zien. Verder kun je op die pagina zien op welke projecten hij accounts heeft. Hij heeft gedurende een periode van jaren bijgedragen. Meest recent idd in 2012. Uw meest recente bijdrage voor hernoeming was 2013. Dit beschouw ik als onvoldoende argument. De Engelse gebruiker is niet verbonden aan de account van de Duitse gebruiker. De groep autoreview maakt geen automatische bewerkingen. Dit zorgt enkel dat men een controle over slaat. Het zorgt voor logboek acties en niet voor bewerkingen. Dit is geen onderdeel van de bijdragen. Het betekent enkel dat deze persoon vertrouwen geniet binnen diens project. De naam is toewezen aan de Duitse gebruiker. Dit betreft een serieuze account. Enkel in extreem duidelijke gevallen wordt een hernoeming herzien. In dit geval geef ik zelfs de voorkeur aan de Duitse gebruiker. Daarom zie ik geen reden dit te herzien. Je kunt het beste een andere naam kiezen. Met vriendelijke groet, Taketa (talk) 19:04, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
- Dat is het hem nu juist. Die lijst klopt niet. Als ik willekeurig doorklik op die 1600+ zogenaamde bijdragen, dan komt UID Sol heel vaak niet eens voor in de geschiedenis van de pagina's. Wel zie ik edits van een ander gebruikers ID: "Sol1" voorkomen in die lijst (zie bijvoorbeeld deze entry https://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kapitalismuskritik&action=history uit de lijst). Het lijkt wel of die lijst alle entries bevat waarin het deelwoord "Sol" voorkwam. Het heeft dus verkeerde dingen meegeteld. Wanneer ik op "Sol1" search dan krijg ik duizenden bijdragen te zien. Wanneer ik hier zoek op de oude Duitse "Sol" identiteit, dan kom ik slechts 20 bijdragen tegen op de.wikipedia.org. Gebruiker Sol1 had echter niet de Sol identiteit en lijkt die nu wel te hebben!
- Ik vind het heel jammer dat mijn Sol identiteit nu naar een inactieve gebruiker is gegaan op basis van de edits van een "Sol1" identiteit. Terwijl ik al jaren actief een boek modereer, waar een gehele community aan bijdraagt. De naam Sol is een personal brand. Ik ben bekend onder die naam ook in die community. Dat is in jaren tijd opgebouwd.
- Reason: I only use commons when uploading files for en.WP, thus I've missed the notice about the forced change. Can this auto-generated username be merged back to my main account (i.e. Anonimu)? - New Username: BPK (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: I don't really understand what the ... is going on. For over than 7 years I had had accounts in some Wikipedias (Russian, German, English etc.) connected with global Wikipedia account in Commons. It had everywhere the same name - "BPK" and everything has worked (Originally the name was from Russian Wikipedia and then has been made global). Now I receive a message from German Wikipedia that my account has been renamed to PaulB~dewiki (if I understood right). Why to take a thing that has worked for many years and spoil it?!
- Your BPK account still exists. Nothing happened with it. But the account PaulB on dewiki (which probably also belongs to you) was renamed to PaulB~dewiki. Ruslik (talk) 20:23, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Teevati@global
- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: Grove~enwiki (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Teevati (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Confirmation difflink: [7]
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: Teevati is my username in fi.wikipedia.org which is my "primary" Wikipedia hence I'm from Finland. I first created the username Grove back in 2007 in en.wikipedia.org, but (as I also say on my userpage for username Teevati in Finnish Wikipedia) when trying to edit Finnish Wikipedia, I found out that Grove was already taken in it.wikipedia.org so I created the new username Teevati. It would be most convenient if the history of this account (Grove~enwiki) would be connected to my now primary username Teevati which should already be global as far as I know. I added this text to both userpages usin the respective usernames to confirm my ownership of both usernames.
- Hi Teevati, the "Grove~enwiki" account has 0 edits. Combining 0 edits with the "Teevati" account would not change anything. Also we currently do not have the tools to merge accounts (all we can do is swith local accounts). All the best, Taketa (talk) 05:47, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Taketa, thank You for a swift response. I didn't realise that I hadn't made any edits with "Grove" (now "Grove~enwiki) before adding "Teevati" as a global account back in the day. Regards. Teevati (talk) 06:08, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Arvedui@global
I got a notice on Meta here that the name Arvedui was taken and would need to be changed, but I've been Arvedui at en.wiki since at least early 2005 as well as most every other wiki account I've ever joined over the past decade. Is it possible that I'm conflicting with my own name somehow? Is there really another Wikimedia Arvedui predating me? --Arvedui (talk) 09:01, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
- Not done It's not taken; as you see you're logged in as "Arvedui" so it is very likely that you still own the account. You got the message on March, and your Meta account was attached to global account in April. --Stryn (talk) 13:48, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
- Oh good. I wasn't sure of the timeframe for the global name-changes and if they had already happened yet or not. Thanks! --Arvedui (talk) 05:10, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
Bogdangiusca@en.wikipedia
- Wiki: en.wikipedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- New Username: Bogdan (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: I have two accounts, both SUL (Bogdan was usurped on en.wiki after the login unification): Both have extensive edit history and have sysop status, but on different wikipedias.
- Bogdangiusca (used on en.wiki, 39,342 edits, sysop)
- Bogdan (sysop on ro.wikisource, 9,849 edits; former sysop on commons, 17,316; etc).
I want the en:User:Bogdangiusca username to be renamed to en:User:Bogdan and included in that SUL.
Currently, en:User:Bogdan has no edit history. --Bogdangiusca (talk) 19:04, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
- Is there somewhere a confirmation that you own the both accounts? Also, do you want to get those both accounts' edit histories merged into one account after account merge is possible? --Stryn (talk) 19:13, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Bogdan: please login to this account and confirm that you wish to have this account to be the target of the merge}}. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:15, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
Martinwguy@en.wikipedia.org
- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- New Username: Martinwguy (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Confirmation difflink: [https:// diff-link to the local request on your local talk-page for example]
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: Hi! I used to be Martinwguy@everything, but
then somehow lost my pwd for wikipedia.org, for which an email message to reset password never arrives to either of the main email addresses I've used over the last ten years, martinwguy@yahoo.it then (current) martinwguy@gmail.com. My suspicion is that either I left myself logged in somewhere and someone changed the email or that I did something silly in some security-minded frenzy, and forgot what.
That was years ago, and I was able to continue editing en.w by creating Martinwguy2. You can verify this by looking at the last-modification records for the two accounts and seeing that there is no overlap in their editing history: one stops and the other starts.
Since the username unification, I am now
- Martinwguy~enwikibooks
- Martinwguy~enwikiquote
- Martinwguy~commonswiki
- Martinwguy~itwiki
- Martinwguy~mediawikiwiki
but cannot unify them because the controlling account is Martinwguy@en.wikipedia, the only one over which I don't have control.
So... can someone give me back control of Martinwguy@wikipedia.org so that I can unite all these accounts under the original name?
Thanks! Martinwguy2 (talk) 09:34, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- Stewards are unable to return the account to you. You would need to pursue such a request through Wikimedia Foundation, and initially through a phabricator: request, though you could seek advice through Stewards' noticeboard about the matter. We could merge these accounts to Martinwguy2 if you can login to each of the above accounts, and confirm them that they should be merged.
If you ever satisify WMF to assign the Martinwguy account to you, then we can merge usernames at that time. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:36, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
- Reason: My username across the wikipedias in different languages is Flayer, but in WikiCommons (and probably some other wikiprojects) my username is NatanFlayer. I want to be called Flayer in wikiCommons as well. Therefore a merge between https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:NatanFlayer and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Flayer.
Vorlage~dewiki@de.wikipedia
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: See previous discussions, where has the request on this page gone? Please fix the problem, this account never should have been renamed, the problem still remains, and all templates still are in a not-existing user namespace. This should be fixed finally. Where is the problem to do this and what can be done about it to fix this problem? This is also not good for newbies, if it doesn't get fixed after all the time, they get a confusing message, when they want to edit any of these templates. It has been told on 28 April that the sysadmins would care about the problem, but now it is still as it has been after the renaming procedure, but the request is gone. So, what is the matter now? Where is the problem with that and why does this take so much time? I don't understand this. Can't you just take the German wiki account and rename this local account back to the old name? I don't see any problem, because there is no account there which could block the re-renaming of this local account. Please fix this. --Winternacht (talk) 19:59, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
