Instructions

SUL finalization

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

How to add an entry here

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
{{SRUC
|status = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)
--~~~~
}}

Example

For global rename requests:

=== Example ===
{{SRUC
|status     = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain     = global
|Oldname    = Example
|Newname    = Foo
|reason     = your remarks here
--~~~~
}}

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Requests

Please add new requests at the end of the page. Sections should be titled your username@project name or your username@multiple projects please.

Local renames are no longer possible by local users as per gerrit:160158. Thus, this is to be done by stewards. Vogone (talk) 15:30, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi User:Chess. So you want your 123chess456 accounts on commons, simplewiki, simplewikt and wikidata to be renamed to "Chess"? --MF-W 15:50, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've usurped on enwiki, so please change all of my accounts that you are able to to "Chess". I will have to make an usurp request on every individual wiki? Chess (talk) 20:03, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There is not yet "global usurpation policy", so I guess you will have to request usurpation locally for now and the bureaucrats will have to ask Stewards to fulfill those local requests. –xeno 20:36, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Per Xeno above, we can't start ignoring local usurpation guidelines, asking local bureaucrats for comment might indeed be the best solution, though we also have to keep in mind that this is atransitional period to SUL finalisation where all these accounts will be forcibly renamed. Done on es.wiki - as a local bureaucrat - and on enwikibooks and enwiktionary per previous precedents. Savhñ 20:53, 15 September 2014 (UTC) And some more (kawikibooks, trwikibooks, trwikiquote, mediawikiwiki, jawiki) based on previous precedents. Savhñ 21:37, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Two issues should be separated here: 1.) The renaming of the remaining 123chess456 accounts who have edits to the new name; 2.) The renaming ("usurpation") of the unattached Chess accounts.
In order to solve 1.), I have just done the following renames: (so please visit Special:MergeAccount)
Chess@commons->Chess (self-usurped)@commons
123chess456@commons->Chess@commons
123chess456@simple->Chess@simple
123chess456@simplewikt->Chess@simplewikt
Chess@wikidata->Chess (self-usurped)@wikidata
123chess456@wikidata->Chess@wikidata
The only remaining 123chess456'es with edits are on Meta and enwiki. That is obviously unsolvable at the moment, maybe you will want to request a merge when that function exists. --MF-W 21:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Wolf 80@global

Target name exists in English and Russian Wikipedias, you should usurp they first.--Anatoliy (talk) 20:36, 26 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Everlake

It seems user:djpheifer already exists is that your own account ? If so please confirm request from that account for usurption or else preferably think of different name,. If available you can provide link to nl usurption policy if any.

Baffo@global

"The old username is used" is not really a reason for a request for rename. It appears that you are indefinitely blocked on a couple different Wikis. Can you please be more specific about why you are wanting to be renamed? Tiptoety talk 20:11, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Be conflicts. Example: Italian Wikipedia is created by me, but I could not access!
The name GseSro less common and like best. I think that the origin User:Baffo is English, and i did not know this. If you can change the name, thank you.--GseSro (talk) 20:38, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is probably an instance of bugzilla:39996. They can be renamed away. --MF-W 21:40, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Miguel Ángel Corral Peltzer@global

Not done - Your current account only has two edits globally. Simply abandon this account and create a new one. Tiptoety talk 18:03, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nikebrand → Nikegoddess

Thisfireburns@enwiki

Done This might have been an unintended consequence of bugzilla:70392. I notified the developers. Please visit Special:MergeAccount now with to attach your new enwiki username. --MF-W 14:01, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your speedy attention. I am still having trouble, however – I am not able to merge the enwiki username with the unified account you created for me (using the link) because it did not assume the password or verified email address I assigned to the new "JohnnyUtahNo9" account; I believe it is still expecting the password held by the Russian user Thisfireburns (which I do not know), and several attempts to reset the password by emailing myself a temporary one were unsuccessful. Are you able to merge them for me? Thanks again, JohnnyUtahNo9 (talk) 21:12, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The password of the Russian user should be the same as you have used, that's how the accounts got merged in the first place. --MF-W 00:48, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jan-Bart@enwiki

Done. The user "Jan-Bart" has been renamed to "Jan-Bart (usurped)". —DerHexer (Talk) 11:24, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you :) Jan-Bart (talk) 12:06, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Froghman@global

Done. Regards, Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 13:27, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

MagicalOne@global

Done, for the last time I hope. Vogone (talk) 22:09, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This will be the last time. You've had more account names than most can keep track of and that borders on disruptive. The point of a username is to identify your edits as belonging to a person; changing your username every few weeks is detrimental to that purpose. I would ask all steward/global renamers to decline future requests from this user. Ajraddatz (talk) 22:35, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I explained that to him as well before doing the rename. Vogone (talk) 22:40, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Arian petro idea@global
