Labs2 is a open collaboration between Wikipedians, academics and foundation staff working to build knowledge about Wikipedia, wikis and open collaboration. The scholarly research community studying Wikimedia projects, the Wikimedia Foundation, and the Wikimedia community all have a shared interest in answering research questions about Wikimedia projects using public datasets, developing new tools and sharing their work with others. Labs2 is a space designed to support those activities.
We track project proposals, keep an index of ongoing projects and hold regular distributed hackathons. Anyone is welcome to participate. Anyone is welcome to participate. Add your name to our member list to be contacted about new events.
Proposals
Proposals are a great way to gather other interested labmates to work on a project. Anyone is welcome to start a proposal. Good project proposals can take many forms (e.g. building tools, answering research questions or performing an analysis). You can browse the existing proposals to see if there are any you'd like to join or to get an idea for one of your own.
Projects
Projects are what proposals become once the work has begun. Projects that already have enough people involved to get started can skip the proposal process. A project page serves as a sort of plan, journal, results and discussion space around a particular project.
Research:Index
The research index is where projects go to live on. Research is conducted on the shoulders of giants. The research index is the giants lair. The index contains a collection of projects that have been completed as a part of Labs2 as well as projects completed by other researchers at the foundation or in academia.
