The Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) funds mission-aligned innovation-focused projects through the Project and Event Grants Program, and provides grantees with non-financial assistance. Fiscal Year 2013–14 is the Wikimedia Foundation's fifth year of grantmaking: since 2009, the Wikimedia Foundation Project and Event Grants Program has granted more than US$2,500,000. In FY 2012–13, 38 grants totaling over US$405,000 were distributed to organizations or individuals.
The Project and Event Grants Program provides project-based grants to organizations, groups, and individuals. All grantees are accountable for project expenses by line item, and are required to report on all projects publicly. The review process for the Project and Event Grants Program is also public, and is led by a volunteer Grant Advisory Committee (GAC).
