'''The casual reader: Giza'''
The way things are going, I am doing 2 versions:
* "Paddington", a redesign of the current '''Phase III''' skin
* [[Montparnasse skin]] a new design for the default skin, fairly lean on features, so newcomers can quickly get their bearings

This is proposed to be the default layout of Wikipedia.
Please add comments here.
Clarity is the key. The casual reader is looking for information. This template must:
* work on all browsers, all platforms. The goal for old browsers is "usable, maybe ugly".
* give links for readers a greater priority than links for editors, possibly even omitting editing links completely or having them only in the page footer.

(Note that you can't see it directly because HTML files are sent by the server as text for security. You'll need to dowbnload it.)

Comments are welcome on the talk page.

Note this is still a '''work in progress'''!

== Design Goals ==
(note that these are up for debate too)

* The following need to be clearly visible:
** name of site
** language links
** "edit this page"
* less clutter
* maybe give the groups of links in the sidebar little headings, eg "site links", "this article", "my settings"

Log in to the [http://test.wikipedia.org/ test wiki] and select Paddington. It sort of works, but it's very incomplete and buggy.

The casual reader: Giza

This is proposed to be the default layout of Wikipedia. Clarity is the key. The casual reader is looking for information. This template must:

  • work on all browsers, all platforms. The goal for old browsers is "usable, maybe ugly".
  • give links for readers a greater priority than links for editors, possibly even omitting editing links completely or having them only in the page footer.
