Deleting duplicate pages

I would ask that you consult the meta deletion policy before deleting any more pages. Your deletion of IRC Channels was contrary to established policies. Perl 00:41, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)

The deletion summary was "deleted "IRC channels": copy of a page from en without any attribution of original authorship with the addition of highly objected to links".

I think meta is the proper home for this page. Only one of the links was "highly disputed" or even disputed at all, and that is hardly a reason for deleting the page. Silsor 00:46, 21 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Elections

Yes -- you are right -- I saw the edit summary...and obviously didn't carefully check what was edited and assumed the worst. I suppose I really shouldn't edit when I'm on a conference call ;-). Sorry, and thanks. -- BCorr|Брайен 21:32, 11 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Enciclopedia Libre

I supose this may be of your interest (those comments are not for EL neither from EL). Willy 16:29, 29 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

142.177 is a well known user who has declared himself a troll. He is permanently banned from the English Wikipedia. I wouldn't take too seriously what anyone who admits to trolling is saying. If you have concerns about the trademark issues, the Foundation-l mailing list is a good place to raise them, but please don't worry about what "142.177" is saying on EL. Angela 16:36, 29 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks; as the troll is banned... post his/her comments on EL :( Willy 17:00, 29 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy you are elected. I think we will continue to work together closely multingually. Arno Lagrange  21:44, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Broken category link

Hi,

you recently removed a broken category link ([[:category:]]). How did you found it? if you click on special:allcategory the link category: i get an error-message. --WikiWichtel 11:16, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

yes, of course, we shouldn't have broken links as [category:], but if the software accepts such category, the software should give a chance to _find_ the article where this category is used. If someone types [[:category:]] into an article, you'll see that this has happened on the list of all categories special:categories _but_ you can't use the link because mediawiki says 'error'. Again: how do you find such broken categories? --WikiWichtel 15:39, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

↓ use this link, see the first category and click...

Sorry, I don't know of any way. Have you reported it as a bug anywhere? Angela 20:28, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Yes: MediaWiki_1.3_comments_and_bug_reports#category:
Since the broken category is named "Category:" you can use "what links here" and manually enter the target. --Borislav 21:19, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
No, that won't work. Special:Whatlinkshere/Category:Wikimedia Foundation only shows three pages, despite there being many more in that category. What links here shows only the pages that link inline to the category by using [[:Category:Wikimedia Foundation]] rather than [[Category:Wikimedia Foundation]]. Angela 21:30, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
What a beauty you are!

This an official complaint.

Dear Angela,

This an official complaint.

At first glance, the Wiki concept looked very sympathetic. However, the reality, in French Wikipedia, is far from nice, owing to the mobbing mores in power, there.

I would have preferred to have this matter treated with the administrators or fr.wikipedia; Infortunatelly, I have not found any mean to join any of them.

I wish to have my contributions quickly eradicated from fr.wiki, owing to the mobbing mores of this pack. Threats, insults, insinuations, campain of calumnies... They have used so with me, they will do it again against anybody who is not completely at their taste, who is not completely submissive.

I demand to have my paper fr:Produit extérieur, and its images destroyed from the site. Though they pretend a quite another story, it is a matter of morality : I deeply regret to have contributed in anything to such violent, insulting, and rogue pack.

By the way, a human audit should not be unnecessary... Otherwise the same causes will produce the same effects, again.

Very regretfully,

Jacques Lavau

As the work is released under the GFDL, that is not something you can demand unforunately. Have you tried emailing any of the admins on fr? There is a list of them at fr:Wikipédia:Administrateurs#Administrateurs actifs. Also, are you happy for Anthere to deal with this, as she speaks French and is in more contact with the admins on fr than I am? Angela 20:09, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Angel, I read all incriminated pages and I can assure you that the only insults that was used was all from Mr Lavau. Aineko 02:51, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Shell

I see that you now have shell access. Well, congratulations :-)
I am sure the solution you found for the foundation website is the best for most people. As for myself, two of the main reasons I joined Wikipedia and throw so much energy in it, was that I was empowered to do things without having to ask people all the time to help me, and second, that I did not need to learn a complicated language. Funny thing is that these are two reasons we claim Wikipedia is great.

So, what do I do now ? Anthere

wiki.linuxquestions.org bashing

hehe.. sorry if i slip into wiki.linuxquestions.org bashing, I was in a horrible WikiWar with one of the moderators, it mostly came down to my ignorance of the MediaWiki, however, it was also him not telling me how to use it... now I know a lot more, and I want to write how to use this beast (a friendly beast) so other people don't quit, or wage WikiWar. AaronPeterson 15:29, 22 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome!

About the first level headers, NOOOOOoo... (fourth level headers wern't working when I started using MediaWiki).. and I need some headings to be 3 deep.. do 4 equal signs work to the same effect?

Finding stuff

I'm finding stuff as I go, I don't intend to duplicate things. I will try to merge WikiWars with Edit Wars... I'm in love with the way WikiWar sounds... About the prexisting format guides, I linked to the ones I found. I'll follow your link, but I find most to be too verbose for my tastes. I wish we all had a voice conferance system... ... Team Speak! We need to find a donor to supply team speak to wikipedia developers! That way we could be working on articles, instead of spending 1/2 hour writing a short messages (at 10 words per minute)

already on IRC on #mediawiki

I'm actually on the IRC channel quite a bit. just #mediawiki though, and not auto logged on, untill now.. I think team speak would rock... (I've never actually used it) It would be nice to use all of my sences to do something rather than just listen to music... I'll look into it a bit.

Question re appropriate content

Hello Angela,

I am a Wikipedia newbie with a question about the policy regarding appropriate content. I was not able to find the answer to my question in the policy articles.

Does an entry such as pearl necklace belong in the Wikipedia, or does it violate the policy for content?

I ask because I have children using the Wikipedia and such articles seem to be (in my opinion) nothing more than textual pornography.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
