Project Plan

Activities

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

There is a huge gap in the way librarians in Kwara State interact with Wikipedia and its sisters project, as librarians in Kwara State do not have adequate knowledge about Wikimedia projects/products, and this has led to the inadequate visibility and lack of widespread adoption in information processing, retrieval, and dissemination to information seekers.
Worthy of note is the presence of incomplete, inappropriate, and unstructured information about prominent individuals, stakeholders, places, organizations, tourist attraction centers, libraries, and information centers in Kwara state, which would have ensure quick answers to users' queries within and outside the libraries.
We attempt to bridge this gap by creating awareness on the various Wikimedia products/ projects that librarians in Kwara State can adopt to promote open knowledge and open access to information by organizing seminars and training that for them in Kwara State.
We attempt to equipped librarians with the prerequisite knowledge on how to edit and improve articles on Wikipedia with Wikidata relevant and reliable sources.
We attempt to provide solutions to unstructured data about places, prominent individuals, stakeholders, organizations, tourist attraction centers, libraries, and information centers in Kwara State using Wikidata.
We attempt to offer librarians ample opportunity to learn about various ways, and actions that will create visibility for their library collections online and also raise awareness on how this project provides opportunities beyond information service delivery.
We will help them gain insight into the inner workings of Wikiglam to promote and enhance the librarian's digital and information literacy skills.
This is in line with the Wikimedia movement 2030 strategy recommendation of identifying topics of impact, to develop individual and organizational self-awareness; to Evaluate, Iterate, and Adapt work, which requires resources, expertise, and capacity, shared responsibility, and mutual accountability to evaluate, communicate progress, facilitate learning, and adapt work.
