Translation of the week/Translation candidates

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

These are the candidates for translation of the week.

  • If a candidate has more opposing votes than supporting ones after two weeks, you may remove it from the list.
  • If a candidate has no vote other than the nominator after two weeks, you may remove them from the list.
  • If a candidate has an equal number of opposing votes and supporting votes after 3 months, you may remove it from the list.
  • Valid vote = Support - Oppose. Otherwise you may simply abstain from the vote, or you may add a comment under a heading Comments.

When proposing a candidate, please

  • include pronunciations for terms left untranslated, such as proper names and foreign terms, for the sake of languages that will want to transliterate them.
  • copy all relevant graphics to Commons and give the link to the resources

en:Music of Greenland - 8-2

I've been working on improving this article recently, and I thought it would make a good ToTW because it is an appropriate length, touches on all the major fields of Greenlandic music and is referenced, with inline citations. It currently exists on in English. Some important links are to en:Inuit music, en:hip hop music, en:throat-singing, en:shaman, en:roots revival, en:rock (music), en:fiddle, en:accordion and en:polka. There does not appear to have ever been a ToTW regarding Greenland, the Inuit or anything concerning the Arctic, so this would be a good article for small wikis to start with covering the culture of this area, as well as a good first "music of" for those wikis without any yet. Some of those terms would be very difficult to translate into the languages I can use. I'd need a danish or inuit translation to do this article. Almafeta 04:23, 28 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've left a request at the Danish message board on en and on the talk pages for the main page at the Inuktikut and Greenlandic Wikipedias. Tuf-Kat 08:16, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This nomination appears to have been selected as TotW, but apparently there was something incorrect about that and it was reverted, but the nom was not re-added here. I've put it back where it was, but if I misunderstood what was going on, feel free to fix it. Tuf-Kat 16:45, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe that's because the selection of en:Prunus was almost a week late. --Puzzlet Chung 12:21, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hey guys - this ToW stuff has gotten way out of sync. Firstly, our good friends the silverfish seemed to stay up there for an eternity. Then, Greenland makes an appearance for about two days, and before you can say ikke bra, Prunus appears out of nowhere. So is Prunus this week's or last week's or the week before's (I'm so confused, I don't even know if I am using my possessives correctly!). Having said all that, I agree with Node that in the first instance, this article did need a bit of touching up - cci l'avevu pi testa pi farilu, ma.... --pippudoz - (waarom? jus'b'coz!) 05:39, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • there is a definition in the firsts sentences. i think its introductory--es:Usuario:FAR
    • (I admit to reading through this page a bit hasty.) Can you change the introduction to a separate paragraph, with the essential stuff: Founded, purpose, became military, best known for, demise? After all, on other Wikipedia that first paragraph will be the entire article. Aliter 14:02, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • Ok, I´ll do it, but I thought, the complete article was small, and that it was easy to traslate. Can you explain to reading abit hasty? My English isn´t very good. es:Usuario:FAR
      • ("a bit hasty" - rather fast, without enough enough attention to details.) The point is that I didn't give it enough attention the first time.Aliter 13:20, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • The english, german, norvegian russian, bulgarian and polish versions are longer and, I think, different. It would be nice to create a bigger article from all different languages (from other languages to english) and then translate it (from english) into other languages. If someone finds the resulting article too long he still can translate only the first part as usual. Ares.it 19:36, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
