These are the mailing lists of the Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit organization in the state of California which operates Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikimedia Commons, Wikispecies, Wikinews, and Wikiversity, as well as many Wikimedia Chapter wikis, and a few other MediaWiki-based wikis.

A mailing list is like a shared email address: messages sent to that address are distributed to all members ("subscribers") of the list.

Except for lists marked "private", archives are available for online reading by anyone; posting to a list generally requires subscribing to it. The Mailman list overview page can be found at lists.wikimedia.org. Some lists can be searched and read on Gmane as web-based threads or blogs, or with an RSS reader or NNTP newsreader; see the links below or, on Gmane, gmane.science.linguistics.wikipedia and gmane.org.wikimedia.

See the main Mailing lists page for more information on Wikimedia lists.
