Steward requests (Permissions)

This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

• Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
• If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
• For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards^connect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

2. Fill in the values:

• domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
• user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
• discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

@EPIC, @CapitainAfrika: Interface administrator rights are not necessary at all for general improvements in interface translation. It's much better to do it on https://translatewiki.net, which has its own accounts.

Interface administrator rights are necessary for advanced interface customizations, only in cases when the translations that come from translatewiki.net cannot be appropriate for some reason, and as far as I can see, this is not the case with kg.wikipedia at the moment. Thank you @Superpes15, I have basic knowledge since I am from the region and my parents come from this community, I am looking to revitalize my language and I have already formed a community of contributors to move the project forward. I am learning the language and I can do the translations on translatewiki.net, but I also asked for administrator rights since I have some experience using Wikipedia CapitainAfrika (talk) 10:16, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

There are certain modules that require you to have rights to create them, I am trying to set up the Biography infobox for example, the display is not correct, in lnwiki it is already good but especially to retrieve the info from Wikidata, moreover the user @Pppery helped us to do it in lnwiki, but the problem remains in kgwiki, too, for the display of navigation palette in bottom of the page, it's still difficult for the two wikis, I'll send you the links that complicate me, if you could help me either by creating them or by helping me create them :

@Volstand: As far as I can see you don't have email enabled, but it is no longer needed so you can forget about that.

However, may I ask you if you have enabled two-factor authentication for your account? If you do not, please follow the instructions here to enable it. The reason I am asking is because per WMF requirements, you will need to enable two-factor authentication to be given interface adminship. EPIC (talk) 12:16, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello! There are currently almost no active users on the Turkmen Wikipedia. There is a lot of work to be done by the administrator. There are a lot of trash articles praising the presidents of this country that should be removed. Therefore, I decided to submit my application to become an administrator. Hmm, I think this is quite borderline, since you do have admin experience but you are only tk-1 and don't have any local users supporting. I don't really know how to weigh in on this, could a fellow steward give their opinion on this? EPIC (talk) 06:30, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Recently, there are almost no active users in Turkmen, there are very few edits, and of course no one voted for me. As for my level of knowledge of the language, I am constantly working on it. There are indeed no active users, let alone a native Turkmen speaker. In the past few years I have only seen a couple tk-N users, none of which are active at the moment, including the only other admin, who hasn't edited for months. I don't think the lack of knowledge of the language is a deal breaker since Turkic languages are generally similar (the candidate is uz-N) and I myself also with "only" tk-1 have managed to do it for some time now. As for the actual candidate, I don't really have an objection since I've somewhat know Umarxon on uzwiki from my time as a global sysop. The desysop that took place there is over a year ago now and while it appears to be problematic, not a lot of the concerns raised there applicable to tkwiki, especially given that the user was allowed to retain the eliminator right to delete articles even after the desysop. I think this is in line with what is expected at tkwiki, where not much happens apart from a few spam pages every now and then. Styyx (talk) 16:12, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

I would say that is enough of an endorsement.  Granted for 3 months to expire on 2024-08-16. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. At Steward requests/Permissions/2024-02#Qu0404@cebwiki I was given admin access for 3 months (which is about to expire) with the instruction to start another election before the temporary access expires and then post a request here again. There has been no objections to this and I have preformed several hundred uncontested admin actions. I'm patrolling the recent changes and moving pages to unqualified names after duplicates have been merged. Keeping admin tools would be helpful so that I can continue to patrol and cleanup duplicates so can I have admin tools permanently please, thanks. Qu0404 (talk) 11:55, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

@Qu0404: But as far as I can see, creating a subpage to ceb:Wikipedia:Tigdumala and following the instructions at ceb:Wikipedia:Mga hangyo nga mahimong tigdumala seems to be the correct way to apply for adminship? That seems to be the dedicated page to do so and that was the case last time, so please open a discussion there, come back after a week and there shouldn't be any problems prolonging this. • To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
• One-time CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by Stewards or when the mandate of the CUs has an expiry date specified in local policies.

Removal of access

• If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.

• To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.

• To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.

Hmm, I'd say this is a bit borderline since there are only two votes after almost one month. I'm not too sure whether that would be enough or not, but I'm waiting for opinions from some other stewards before potentially processing this since it's on the weaker side. Using Google Translate you can see that the user (@יוני2023) herself requested the removal of her privileges above and before the vote. Additionally, as previously reported, the user's behavior is highly problematic, bordering on supporting vandalism, and even suggesting a little potential of unauthorized access to the account.
