I think this is the wrong way of looking at things. The "el" has not had a sysop for a while. ANd when it did it was far from adequate. Apparently sysop-ship for the ONLY current sysop was given becaseu it was the ONLY active user at the time , not based on experience (and that is fair). BUT then two new guys come up that want to help and then the "newbie" rule comes into play. IS there something else involved here? Please let us know.:el:User:ank

Hopefully ank, someone will be able to help you here :-) Anthere 23:48, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I left a message to you on your wiki :-) Anthere 00:28, 3 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I would like to become a sysop for the Greek el.wikipedia.org. This is in bad need of work for almost the entire project. My previous attempts to obtain sysop rights through the intlwiki-l list (now defunt) were largely ignored. Please help.

Andreas has done some interesting work in the 'el' section. I vote for him. We need to fix this awful mess in the Greek page. Gkastel

I am applying for the 'el' section sysop-ship. The current status in 'el' is almost chaotic, everything is under construction and nothing works. I want to help. See the discussion page.

:Instead of people here deciding on this, wouldn't it be better to make the only existing sysop, Leonariso, a bureaucrat so the Greek Wikipedia can make their own decisions on who becomes a sysop. Angela 14:11, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Question though...is it okay that a sysop agreeing to make someone a sysop 3 days after he arrived on the wiki is made bureaucrat ? I do not think so. In any case, Note that Brion seemed to object to make sysop after only 3 days.

I dunno, we can reduce our work load by making any sysop a bureaucrat on each wiki, so nothing as to be done any more

or we can maybe be a bit careful when there is a wiki with only ONE sysop, and this one is perhaps not doing very wise things. I *do* think that someone accepting another one to be sysop after three days is not entirely wise. But this needs to be discussed of course, I may be wrong.

I do not think the current way of making over there is ok. But on the other hand, we can also say that is their business.

I would like other poeple opnion on that.

I never enjoyed bureaucracy. I only applied for adminship in order to fix some broken pages that noone else wanted to fix. I thought it was no big deal (is it?). Anyways, someone should start working in the 'el' section, or else noone will want to write any articles (which is the point, right?). All in all, I detest this Kafkian bureaucracy. Just do what you think, and let's get this thing working :) I think you are making the whole thing too tragic. Just try us. Even if we would destroy the section, people would barely notice, as there's nothing useful in there anyway. And, after all, you can deprive us later (is it not so?) :).

Seriously now, just take a look at the latest articles in the 'el' section. Most of them are empty or some 'ggg', 'asdfdf' etc. That's a shame. It's like a nationwide humiliation :(, and, obviously, the current sysop is too busy to take care of it.

Revision as of 17:20, 5 April 2004

This is a central page to request permissions (sysop status, bureaucrat status) on one of the Wikimedia projects, where no local means exist to do so yet. If your Wikipedia has a requests for adminship page, please use that. If not, use this page.

Requests for adminship

ga (Irish)

I am looking for adminship on the Irish Wikipedia. There are things that need some tweaking that I would be willing to do. Ludraman 22:26, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Ludraman, as Gabriel Beecham is a bureaucrat on ga, he should be the one to make you a sysop. Please ask on the Irish Wikipedia. Angela 13:57, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

ia (Interlingua)

Hello. I am looking for the interlinguian Wikipedia (Interlinguian Wikipedia) adminship. There are just 3 (2 active) sysops, so i think, it would need more. My knowledge of 5 other languages and of (more then one year now) Wikipedia (i'm already admin in de:) will be, I think, very helpful. Fire

Juste pour noter le nom, il pourrait y avoir un requete pour McDutchie sur la wiki interlangua. Anthere 17:21, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Fire should be an admin on ia.wikipedia now. --mav 03:45, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

tp (Toki Pona)

Please add admin status for me. --Sonjaaa 07:44, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)

ur (urdu) (اردو)

I am looking for adminship on the Urdu Wikipedia. Currently there are no admins there who know Urdu and can work on the wikipedia. Aalahazrat 2018, 05 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Requests for bureaucrat status (to make new admins)

  • Request to become bureaucrat at KU: Erdal Ronahi 20:53, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC) (I am the only admin there so far.)
    • Do people over there agree with this ? Do you have a name reference or a vote for this ? Thank you :-) Anthere 11:19, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
      • Erdal is the only sysop on ku, and pretty much the only active user. I know of no reason he should not be a bureaucrat there. Angela 13:57, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Erdal should now be a bureaucrat at KU. --mav 03:29, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Requests for de-adminship

Michey.M should be just a regular user now. --mav

History

  1. In the beginning, people would apply for sysop power by asking Brion.
  2. Then someone came up with the idea of creating bureaucrat power so that certain sysops could create other sysops. The (short-lived) idea was that requests for adminship would be handled here by the group of bureaucrats.
  3. A final simplification/correction/clarification of the idea was that bureaucrat powers were meant to be local to individual wikis, thus reducing the amount of meta-noise, but somebody has to create the first bureaucrat, so ask here!
