Requests for logos

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This is an archived version of this page, as edited by 217.12.16.56 (talk) at 16:32, 24 November 2005 (→‎Wikipedia). It may differ significantly from the current version.

Warning: there's a pretty good chance something requested on this page will never get noticed. Configuration changes on the wikis should be requested in a central place by filing a note in our bugzilla: http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/. There's no guarantee someone will make a logo image for you in a timely fashion if you cannot provide one, unfortunately.

This process is easy:

  1. Request the creation of the logo under "Requests".
  2. once logo is built, save it and rename it "Wiki.png" then upload it on the wiki and PROTECT IT.
  3. Ask for switch to be done by a developer in "Ready to switch" section.

Manage yourself: Wiki.png

Wikis can now change their own logo by uploading it with the filename 'Wiki.png'. That image should be protected to avoid vandalism. Please leave a mark here to tell us that you have the logo in place and the image is protected, we can then switch the config to use it. Any further updates can be done without dev intervention.

Please upload the logo image as Wiki.png !

Could someone make a logo for the Romanze Wikipedia, and help me activate the page itself, whereupon, I could easily translate the text from Castillian to Andalusian Romanze? The text would say, "Romanze, L'enciclopedia livairo", Thanks a million!

Could someone make a the logo for the Bambara Wikipedia? I think "Wikipedia, ɔnsikopedi hɔrɔn" is a good translation (at least, it's better than French). Guaka 20:14, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hihi, all. May be we need a B/W logo for Wikipedia and/or other wikimedia projects. So that it can be put it on everybody's personal name card at a low cost. And, it should be in EPS or CDR format. :) 61.129.42.33 16:54, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi. The logo for the bosnian language wikipedia needs to be changed. Currently it says "Wikipedije - Slobodne enciklopedije", which is actually plural and means "Wikipedias - The free encyclopedias". Since the standard seems to be "Wikipedia - The free encyclopedia" we have agreed to make a request here for a logo that says "Wikipedia - Slobodna enciklopedija". If somebody could make that and set it up it'd be much appreciated. Asim Led 21:06, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The Vietnamese Wikipedia has decided to change its motto from "Bách khoa tự do" to "Bách khoa toàn thư mở". The current logo, located here and here, was made by Nohat. Can someone please modify the logo? Thanks. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, blog) 04:16, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

There's now a decent example at vi:Image:Nohat-logo-X-vi-2.png. I'm not sure if it uses the same font as Nohat's logos, though. Also, it's not quite the same size as the original translation. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, blog) 02:54, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Actually, we're going to go with the image I linked to in my last reply, and we've already moved the image to vi:Image:Wiki.png and have protected it, so we're ready to switch. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, blog) 03:52, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Can someone change the e into a j to http://li.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wiki.png the logo for li.wikipedia? Subtitle: "De Vriej Encyclopedie". Thanks. -- Guaka 13:55, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

On Marathi logo(http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Mr-wiki-logo.png) the ु charecter under the मुक्त is missing. It should read मुक्त and not मक्त. Please correct it.

Can someone change the text for the Punjabi Wikipedia logo to ਵਿਕਿਪੀਡਿਆ please? The older translation ਵੀਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ is incorrect because it uses long vowels inappropriately (Wiikiipiidiiaa) whereas the new one is more accurate (Wikipiidiaa). 62.252.224.13 01:24, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

  • CHR - If you could do a Cherokee logo for me, I would really appreciate it. Decent font options include: Code2000, Aboriginal Sans/Serif, Everson Mono Unicode. ᏍᎩ! (Thanks!) (You'll definitely need one). The text should be: ᏫᎩᏇᏗᏯ (Wikiquedia) and ᎠᏎᏊᎢ ᎠᏓᏃᎮᏎᏗ ᎪᏪᎵ (asequui adanohesedi goweli). Please get this done for me ASAP and I will be very, very grateful. • ID needs a new logo. The text should be: Wikipedia - Ensiklopedi Bebas. Thanx Meursault2004 23:01, 29 Jul 2004 (UTC)
  • What fonts are used in the logo?
    • It depends. Different fonts are used for different scripts. The text for "wikipedia", when in the Latin alphabet, is supposed to be in "hoeflertext regular"; the subtitle is supposed to be in "hoeflertext italic". Node ue 21:24, 18 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • The logo at the TH wiki is cropped, thereby making the logo slightly "wrong". It reads สารานกรมเสรี, but it should be สารานุกรมเสรี as the logo here says. (note the extra marker under the 5th letter... it's a vowel)

      • Also, your logo is waaay too big and would get cropped off by the sidebar, and it's misleading to use "nohat" in the name if you, and not Nohat, created it. --Node ue 23:21, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I run Wikinac, a wiki almanac, and would like a logo, post ones you make here. thankyou. -- 71.32.5.180 23:35, 20 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

First, you "run" Wikinac, a project that doesn't exist yet? Plus, only Jimbo can say he "runs" any project run by Wikimedia, not even the board members can say they run a project, despite their tireless contributions to the management. -- user:zanimum

Source file(s) of logo?

  • Do you make the source files that you use to create the logo available (e.g. the PhotoShop or Gimp file)? Ozzyslovechild 21:00, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Yes! The logo source file, coupled with perhaps something in the vein of usage guidelines, could be quite liberating. Maybe seque Nohat, or his successor/s, toward a role more in the vein of project manager or artistic director after they've won the prize of being chosen to being The Next Logo? Someone to direct usage, and oversee the development process (especially the decision-making on issue resolution) as time passes? Nround 23:16, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Wiktionary

File:Tsca wiktionary logo2.png What is the official politics on "alternative logos"? On the Polish dictionary there's a discussion about the logo; the one you see on the side is one of the proposals. The advantages are 1) it's a recognisable sign (which can't be said of the English Wiktionary logo) 2) it's easy to adapt to other languages. But, assuming that just one, Polish, Wiktionary wished to use a different logo, would there be objections?--tsca 16:52, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)
đ

I like that logo a lot, with its "grunge" look. The Vietnamese one might simply feature a big "đ" letter, like the one to the right. But I think that, in order to keep the logo reasonably similar across languages, maybe something like an enlarged puzzle piece from the wikiball (Wikipedia logo) could be used instead. Unfortunately, I don't have decent imaging software, so I can't show you exactly what I mean, but take a look at Image:WikiLetra.png or Image:WikiLetraMini.png. My reasoning is this: words (which Wiktionary defines) are part of written prose (which Wikipedia consists of), so and the puzzle piece is part of a puzzle ball. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, blog) 02:45, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)
