As we enjoy great advantages from the inventions of others, we should be glad of an opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours; and this we should do freely and generously.

About me

When not busy pissing people off on Wikipedia, you may find me earning my living as a DevOps and InfoSec Officer—a fancy way of saying I don't really know what I'm doing—in a small private company doing R&D in the fields of chem- and nanoinformatics, toxicology, data mining, AI (you knew I'd mention it), and other similar and not that similar stuff.

I enjoy my work very much. It ain't all roses, don't get me wrong, but it manages to satisfy pretty well my almost pathological desire to learn new things, especially about who we are as living things and human beings: how do our bodies function, how do our brains think, and, most importantly, how can we—hopefully—make us and our lives better.

If you hear me apologizing for “being busy”, it means I'm either reading, travelling to places I've never seen before, taking a walk in the park, climbing some hill with a great view, doing home repairs, playing a computer game, or just sitting on my couch, watching the clouds slowly moving in the sky, planes flying by, and the trees waving branches.

Apart from Wikipedia, I also try to help some other volunteer projects, mainly with a bunch of enthusiastic people from the University of Plovdiv, who believe that good education is the best solution to many of the problems that the world faces today.

My work

I've been an administrator on the Bulgarian Wikipedia—by far the largest, if not de facto the only Bulgarian wikicommunity—since 2012, and while I've been actively editing since 2009, administrative work remains my major contribution. As a sysop, my key interests are community wellbeing, fending off vandalism, identifying and combating disinformation and propaganda, and the application of automation and AI, especially deep learning, in those processes and in editing in general. I'm also trying to serve as tech ambassador.

Besides Wikipedia, I'm a bureaucrat and sysop on some of the other Bulgarian projects, notably Wiktionary and Wikiquote. I also maintain the wikimedia.bg[1] and wik.pe[2] domains and the services there, like the community blog and mailing lists.

I operate four bots: the general-purpose Kerberizer, the experimental AI editor Eliza Beth, the anti-vandalism AI sysop PSS 9, and the interface admin JSS 9.[3]

Since I customarily sign my posts on the talk pages as Luchesar, there's a doppelgänger account Luchesar to prevent social engineering. It is practically never used for editing.

Notes

  1. Intended for the once anticipated Wikimedia chapter in Bulgaria, the domain wikimedia.bg is now governed by the local community in general, serving in particular the sole officially recognized Bulgarian UG, the Wikimedians of Bulgaria.
  2. wik.pe is used as a Wikipedia-specific URL shortener service. Supported at present are universal links of the type wik.pe/<lang>, e.g. wik.pe/en, and wik.pe/u/<user>, e.g. wik.pe/u/iliev (a special case is wik.pe/jimbo). Also, requests for specific links like e.g. wik.pe/wlm17bg and wik.pe/wle2016md are accepted. If you can come up with a clever idea how to cover all Wikipedias, but still use meaningful URLs, don't hesitate to contact me.
  3. JSS 9 performs automatic editing of the global JS and CSS pages on the Bulgarian projects on behalf of the project administrators, based on proposals, reviews, and committed changes to Phabricator.
