"Mindspillage" is the usual online handle of Kat Walsh, a Wikimedian from Herndon, Virginia (just outside Washington, DC, currently a member of the Wikimedia Board of Trustees. I'm currently attending George Mason University School of Law, focusing on technology and IP law, after earning a B.A. in music in 2005. I worked for Wikia, Inc. as Community Support from February to August 2006.

If there's anything I can help you with, feel free to contact me. My user page on the English Wikipedia, which I consider my "home project", has more information on my involvement in that project (as well as a bit more silliness and trivia!). If you're looking for something Wikipedia-specific, please check there.

Multiple intelligences: what I do

  • Member of the Board of Trustees, appointed in December 2006 to serve through mid-2007.
  • I handle emails that come in to Wikimedia via the OTRS system. I am also on the OTRS subcommittee of the Communications Committee. I am an OTRS admin and am a contact for the English-language queues. If you have any issues or would like to offer to help, please read the page and contact one of the appropriate people.
  • I am a press contact for Wikimedia, valiantly attempting to keep misleading statements out of the news, with varying degrees of success. You may contact me directly; however, for general requests, you may wish to use the press@wikimedia.org address which is answered by our full press team.
  • I am an administrator here.

Meeting of minds: contact me

    • usually in #wikimedia, #wikipedia, #wikinews, and several other channels
  • Local project talk pages: Meta, Wikipedia, Wikinews, and Commons.

Kept in mind: philosophical links

enjoy yourself / be a catalyst / reduce temperature / don't stuff beans up your nose / defend against passion / fighting is boring / control yourself / prefer the soft response / sometimes you have to resort to St. Benedict's Rule / critics are your best friends / fix broken windows / moderating conversations in virtual space

"To enjoy freedom, [...] we have of course to control ourselves."
-- Virginia Woolf

(and please, feel free to suggest interesting philosophical musings to me on my talk page)

Brainchildren: contributions

I am largely responsible for both Polls are evil and How to win an argument here,as well as the parody "If I Were An Admin". You decide how serious each one is. Most of my work here on meta deals with maintaining the OTRS pages as well as some of the Communications committee-related sections. For local involvement, you can view my user contributions on Wikipedia, Wikinews, and Commons.

Spill containment: licensing

I agree to multi-license all my contributions as described below:

Multi-licensed with the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike License versions 1.0 and 2.0
I agree to multi-license my text contributions, unless otherwise stated, under the GFDL and the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license version 1.0 and version 2.0. Please be aware that other contributors might not do the same, so if you want to use my contributions under the Creative Commons terms, please check the CC dual-license and Multi-licensing guides.

Brain droppings: notes to self

  • Content issues, the raw beginnings of a project to collect discussions about censorship and "offensive content"
