About me

Hello! I'm Steven Walling. I started out as an English Wikipedian in 2006, have been a volunteer sysop since 2008, and also contribute to Commons. In 2010, I joined the Wikimedia Foundation as part of the Fellowships program, and today I'm a staff member based in San Francisco.

My work

Here at the Foundation, I do research and organizing projects that support the growth and continued health of the volunteer communities that build the projects and fulfill our mission. In practice, that means everything from helping run IRC office hours to A/B testing new ways to communicate on the wikis. In the past I've worked on projects like the 10th anniversary of Wikipedia as well.

Disclaimer: I work for or provide services to the Wikimedia Foundation, and this is the account I try to use for edits or statements I make in that role. However, the Foundation does not vet all my activity, so edits, statements, or other contributions made by this account may not reflect the views of the Foundation.
