G'day Candidate!

First I thought I'd offer a thank you for being brave / foolish enough to put your hat in the ring as a candidate for election to the Wikimedia Board of Trustees! - I wonder if you might have any time, interest, and enthusiasm to record a brief 10 / 15 minute audio interview about yourself / the reasons for your candidature / your wiki philosophy etc. etc. ? - I've been promoting a project on the english wikipedia called NotTheWikipediaWeekly - which is a grassroots effort to promote good communications through (semi) regular 'podcasts'.

If you have a couple of moments free, would you mind taking a look at this page and signing up if you're interested! It'd be great to chat with each and every one of you, and I hope you'll be amenable to this idea! Let me know if you've any questions at all, thought perhaps my english wikipedia talk page is the best spot.

The best of luck, and kind regards,

Plannning the 'real world' conversation

Thanks for both your interest and patience in setting up an audio conversation - I'm afraid I've found myself both 'real world' busy, and it took me a moment to figure out what the best way forward in organising these conversations could be.

I've created a 'sign up' sheet over at User:Privatemusings/ElectionDiscussions - which it would be great if you could peruse, and sign up at a suitable time. The times are in 'UTC' (which I gather is the official 'wiki' time) - but if you have any problems converting, there's a seperate section for you to simply drop the appropriate information in. I already have many of you as Skype contacts - but if you haven't forwarded this information so far, you can submit that at this time also.

I'm aiming to publish this podcast on 6th June - and believe (and hope!) that it might raise the profile of the election a little bit, as well as humanising the people behind the screen names a little. Thanks for your willingness to engage with this - head over here as soon as possible, and let's get chatting! cheers, Privatemusings 05:21, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Very cool!

Swatjester, I'm very pleased to see that you're running for the WMF. I can't really predict how I'll vote before reviewing the various nominations, but I have been very impressed with how you've conducted yourself, and how you've represented the mission of the project, in my interactions with you. Good luck! -Peteforsyth 09:22, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Criticism

First, as always, when responding like that, it's me personally responding rather than the election committee as a whole. Now, criticism is more than welcome if one actually intend to help improve the process as an end result. If however, someone is moaning for the sake of moaning, then what good does that do? KTC 12:34, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it's a fair judgment to say that this person had no intent to help the process. In any event, I feel a little good faith is in order. Swatjester 19:53, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
To someone that starts off by describing either the Board, or the election committee as "becoming a dictatorship of the anal retentive"? You are a better person than I am. Regards. KTC 01:29, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I doubt that I am. Just saying that there's often a time to hold one's tongue and during an election while an election committee member is probably one of them (Keep in mind, I know you weren't saying it as a committee member, and rather just personally. But not everyone sees things that way). Swatjester 08:23, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Threats, vengeance, harassment and intimidation associated with RfA, RfB, etc

The summary of the situation is on my en talk page. If you want to have more information, get Skype and talk to me there. Or I can call you.

I think that the community should make it clear that threats and intimidation associated with these "votes" or "polls" is inappropriate. I think that the community should make it clear that taking revenge for past participation in assorted "votes" and "polls" is inappropriate.

That would be a good start. --Filll 14:06, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I will note that not just me, but something like 3 others as well, who had voted oppose on the DHMO RfA also felt they were the subject of intimidation and felt sufficiently harassed that they struck their votes and stopped participating. Now 3 or 4 out of 400 or so might not seem like very many, but isnt one out of 400 already too many? It is not that what was done to me and others was so bad (such as a repeated statement of a threat of outing, partly as revenge for voting in an RfA the "wrong" way, and an RfAr filed against a group partly because this group was perceived as voting the "wrong" way in another RfA). It is that this sort of thing is going to escalate if the community does not take a stand against it. --Filll 20:31, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have the page open right now, and I am reading through it. I agree with you that there was extensive badgering and browbeating and intimidation on that RFA, that was unreasonable. Thankfully I was not a target of it on my oppose, but spoke out on WT:RFA. I am and remain against the idea of vote intimidation. You should check out the recent foundation-l posts suggesting that after the election the votes should be deencrypted. Swatjester 20:59, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Save the Siberian Wikipedia!

Please have a look at Save the Siberian Wikipedia. Your comments there will be much appreciated. --SiberianHuskyRyder 21:25, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

It appears the community voted nearly 3 to one in favor of closing the project. I think that speaks clearly. Swatjester 21:33, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

translation

Hi! I was translating in italian your statement for the Board of Trustees' election. I found difficult to translate "clinical student attorney", because it's a concept far from my culture (Italian universitary system it's quite different from yours, I guess). I'd be glad if you could paraphrase it for me. Good luck for the board! --Xander89 09:10, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
