Encore des abus d'administration
Admin Abuse
Cher Yann,
Yann, A group of editors and admins refuse to allow a balance of material and links. Gamaliel, Robert McClenon, Jpgordon, JamesMLane, and a few others now own the pages. Any attempts to modify the page is met by thier gang edits. They allow only links to pro kennedy sites, none to negative sites regardless of the wealth of content they may provide. They push their pov on all of the Kennedy pages. It's because of editors and admins like these that Wikipedia is doubted as a source. ie; the New York Times published policy against Wiki as a source. The group refuses to agree to consensus when it is against them. I've now been blocked by Jpgordon in an abuse of admin priv. My act was not vandalism, it's simply not agreeing with their one sided pov. I am not willing to endure any more arb or mediation. These guys are out of control. 24.147.103.146 05:45, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Merci bien, --10caart 07:35, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Merci bien, --10caart 07:52, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello Yann,<br/>
Editing on the meta version of the press release has effectively stopped. Please be advised that we may be distributing the non-English press releases as early as Monday 29 September. The English version will be distributed the week after in order to smooth out the load on our servers. --maveric149 22 Sep 2003

Editing on the current press release will effectively stop in three days. Pleasae be advised that we may be distributing the non-English press releases as early as Wednesday 15 September. Bonjour,
Actually, I meant to add: please add to the Press_release_log any notes about previous press releases from fr: that you can find, to help us distribute this release as effectively as possible. +sj+

I'm sorry to say so, but I'm currently in the process of completely rewriting the Wikinews page as outlined in this mailing list post. I'm afraid the translation will have to be updated after that is finished.--Eloquence 21:54, 14 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Wikinews.fr, que peut-on faire ?
Bonjour,
Wiktionary stats
J'aimerais beaucoup que vous puissiez vérifier, en consultant les liens fournis par Bertrand Grondin lui-même (User : Trevras@fr.wn - for these constributions by attacking wikinews users integrity, trolls, insults), que l'affirmation selon laquelle je me livrais à des insultes envers les contributeurs de Wikinews est parfaitement fausse (ce serait même plutôt le contraire !).
Hi, thank you for your updating of Wiktionary. Could you make a sum of words on all Wiktionary? I think we need to update details in Wikimedia:Our projects on WMF site too, and the number of total words is required for this purpose. If you update WMF sites Translation requests/WMF/Our projects/En:, you will be very appliciated. --Aphaia 08:45, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

WP and Mandrake
Could you take a look at my request on Talk:Wikimedia_and_Mandrakesoft? Dysprosia 22:30, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Macedonian wiki on start page
:Could you add Macedonian wiki on Www.wikipedia.org_template which is :mk:, its been a time that it has enough articles to be there. Lincher 22:33, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
::That is true, it is on the portal but not on the Template which is now used as a front page to wikipedia. Lincher 14:08, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Because i don't know who i should ask for that, i ask you. Could you make changes to the front Www.wikipedia.org_template so it reflects the Complete list of language Wikipedias available page. Meaning that both pages have approximately the same number of articles and reflect the same order of wikipedia (1st to 10th). Thank you in advance Lincher 04:27, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

Hi Yann, i de-sysopped Robin Patterson from sm.wiki. Seems there's some objection from another user. I think is better if we try to understand what's happening. See here.
Also take a look at this. Do you think is better to remove his rights also on mi.wiktionary?

Seems Node is indeed a bit trollish, on the other hand seems to me (judging from his contributions) that Robin has a limited knowledge of that language. I don't understand why he wants to be an admin there. I left him a message anyway, hope this won't start a flame. --Snowdog 23:44, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Slightly active
Thank You
Hi Yann,
To be inactive means that nobody ever does changes to the wiki, but wikis that have articles even if it is only 1, might have been created in a not so long future as rendering this wiki inactive that is why these wikipedias are slightly active. Plus, when updating the wikis, it is easier to do the list of slightly active than the inactive one which is updated once a month or so. I think it is better the way it is because if a wiki seems to be active people come to it.
THanks a lot for showing your willingness to move pages once gu.wikisource is created. It would really be great help.--DhavalTalk 10:39, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Just a little remark to wikis with big numbers that aren't modified anymore like bengali, souldn't they be put to the inactive wikipedias, no, because somebody was once active in it. Lincher 22:54, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

:I am thinking of a program segment, that senses the logged in status of a member, & places a green dot on online, red on busy, yellow on idle & grey on offline, just like orkut/google/G-talk, etc & many more. Can we have this fac, atleast for the sysops' status. If you can direct this issue to right hands, so nice of you. --आशीष भटनागर 10:53, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

:::So nice of you replying me,
:::But the things are quite different. As you might be aware about the Google, G-Talk & orkut, etc. The user holds an option to be invisible. That way, he appears to be grey (as if he is not online) while being very much online. Only when a user opts for Green status, the user is shown green. I think this suffice the solution for the privacy issue.--आशीष भटनागर 17:44, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in the Wikimedia Inspire campaign during March 2015!
Hi, I am w:nl:gebruiker:Walter of the dutch Wikipedia. I am writing you because your are listed as ambassador of your wiki (Wiktionary FR, GU, HI). I have something to say that I think you will find useful and possibly others of your wiki also.

Please take our short survey and share your experience during the campaign.
You know it is not easy for the members of a local wiki to be informed about what is going on in the higher levels of the Wikimedia family. This because of the language problem and the high level of fragmentation of places where you can find information.

I am now making a weekly news letter (Wikizine) that attempts to provide the news of the Wikimedia projects. The concept is to list only a very short description of the news an give the relevant url to the subject. I want it to be short, only give the news that is important for all projects. The target audience include the ambassadors. It is for people who are interested in what it going on outside there own wiki. I emphasize on the news that is practical-technical. The information comes form several "news"-pages on several wikis, the mailinglists and IRC. There will be news I can not discover. If you have news found somewhere or from you own wiki please let my know. wikizine AT wikipedia.be

I can only create one version in something that supposed to be English. I count on the readers to inform there local wiki about the news in there own language.

Wikizine is send by use of the mailinglist Announce-l. It is only used for this. So people can subscribe without being swamped by emails like the lists.

Hi, this is a reminder that the consultation about Reimagining WMF grants is closing on 8 September (0:00 UTC). We encourage you to complete the survey now, if you haven't yet done so, so that we can include your ideas.
Hello Angela,
I saw your explanation on the talk page of user The Engineer in Bulgarian Wiki. Sorry if it is rude but you've used a weasel term in it: "... number of members ...". How big this number is and of which users you've got a complaint. There is the user Emil in a personal conflict with him, and The Engineer is accusing him in being backed by an administrator and a founder of Bulgarian Wiki - Petko (admin ID Потребител:5ko, "pet" means five in Bulgarian). While I cannot accuse user Petko, I can assure you that user Emil is having conflicts not only with The Engineer (even I had to recall my ambassador).

With thanks,
Please make clear statement based on what you went for removal of adminship of The Engineer, and protection of his pages. The Bulgarian Wiki community is too small to waste any editor, and is among those who lost editors instead of getting more onboard. Bulgarian Wiki also is decreasing its pace. Right now I am not asking to reinstate the admin access but protection without clear, verifyable explanation is not good.

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!
Angela,
Today I was kicked off and banned from the #Wikipedia IRC channel by Kelly Martin. If you want the details of why, I am quite willing to explain, but I don't believe it is central to the point at hand. I have reason to suspect that Kelly Martin may have used her checkuser rights in order to identify what account I was using on IRC #Wikipedia, as no one else was booted off the channel prior to my being booted. I've never identified my IRC nick with my Wikipedia nick prior to this incident. With 200+ users on the channel, such accuracy in booting me seems...suspect. I would like a check to be done to determine if Kelly Martin ran a checkuser request against my en.wikipedia.org ID "Durin". I believe in your role as a steward you are capable of running such a check. Thanks in advance, --Durin 21:22, 5 December 2005 (UTC) (cc: Daniel Mayer, Anthere)

I am coming to you because there is nowhere else to go with this. I fear a mega troll has been able to so firmly entrench himself within wikinews with meatpuppets and sockpuppets that he has obtained virtual control of the site. Now he is attempting to expand his power into Wiktionary. . He simply uses his authority and extreme time availability to wear down and force contributors who are in his way off the site. He has also managed to drive a wedge between Admins and non-admins (basically forming a club-like clique among admins) to the point where a reasonable Rfda; fails with 6 admins opposing and 9 non-admins supporting the Rfda. Amgine's dedication toward prioritizing group loyalty is manifest with this edit of his; "Your approach to Wikinews, in my opinion, is focused on articles. This is a common approach, but probably not the most valuable. I suggest you reconsider that Wikinews is not about articles, but about developing and maintaining an online community; the articles are secondary. - Amgine / talk 14:53, 23 October 2005 (UTC)". Amgine also uses multiple signatures leading to different sites and one that leads nowhere.

Participate in the Inspire Campaign and help address harassment!
The administrative abuses are historical fact and are listed below and although the "troll" accusation is based on circumstantial evidence; I am also showing it at the bottom. The section below is from

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.
<li>Regarding Amgine's activities as an administrator for en.wikinews, I have checked and double checked the information/links below and find the statements accompanying them to be true. Amgine abuses administrative authority consistently and has done so for at least 6 months. His user page comments even show he has a troll-like connection as an administrator with the project as he openly announces that he has "left the project" while being the most active in terms of conflicts and blockings; acting as a foreman or "boss" rather than in a collaborative fashion.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,
*Here are the examples of administrative abuse. Amgine has had multiple long lasting disputes with many editors with Neutralizer being the most recent and intense. Amgine has not hesitated to abuse his admin powers by blocking/punishing editors like Neutralizer who disagree with him; even though wikinews guidelines clearly state that an admin should NOT block an editor with whom they are having a dispute (they should, instead, allow a different admin. to apply any necessary blocks to that editor). It now seems that the wikinews contributors can not get rid of Amgine no matter how hard they try; Amgine is able to deflect and explain away his misdeeds in a fashion that puts Shakespeare's "Artful Dodger" to shame. You may expect that he will become increasingly accusatory and employ vicious attack methods to get what he wants. Re Amgine; its a lot easier to get him in power than to get him out of power. Fair Warning !
<ol>
<li>Amgine displayed his arrogance by summarily rejecting the resolution, suggestions of a mediator, Ilya (a wikinews Bureaucrat) after a mediation. "I do not accept your suggestion that I limit my administrative privilege use either to "vandalism or very clear violations of objective policies only, and to explicitly let some other admin deal with Neutralizer" or "submit a self-de-admin request." We're not counting votes that are cast early, because the proposals can change during this phase, and you might end up voting for something that changes in a way that you didn't expect. I've added some text at the top of the page, explaining this better.
:A shows 4 of the spurious blocks Amgine levied against Neutralizer which were all later rescinded when other admins got involved .
:B shows the last block against Neutralizer done after Amgine and he clearly were in conflict
::02:13, 6 November 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Neutralizer" with an expiry time of 6 months </li>
<li> Admin abuse; blocking Ed Brown for 1 month

04:27, 11 December 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Edbrown05" with an expiry time of 1 month ; Amgine soon withdrew that block as he claimed a "software problem" had been the cause of the unjustified block. This time selection of 1 month for a long standing good contributor like Edbrown shows an abusive use of blocking </li>
<li> talk page blanked and frozen by Amgine ( in the middle of ongoing disputes with this same person)
This is especially interesting as he did it just one hour after the talk page was made to prioritize the question of whether Amgine and another admin. are the same person. As you can see below (6); Amgine has no problem accusing others of being sockpuppets but when he stands accused? Hell; just delete the evidence. </li>
<li> More Disruption by Amgine; not assuming good faith:
:Amgine accused vonbergm of being a sockpuppet; "I do not have reason to believe you are not a sockpuppet."
:Just a few days ago he accused Edbrown of being a sockpuppet</li></ol>

I don't want people to see your Support votes and get confused, so I'm going to change the Support template in your message to "Good idea". If that response doesn't work for you, then feel free to change it. Sorry again about the confusion -- I'm really glad that you're participating. I hope you keep coming back to discuss and improve proposals, and you'll have a chance to vote starting on Nov 28th. Let me know if you have any questions. Dear Yann: I have read your grant proposal and found the idea of book scanning just great! Maybe this piece of information will help you: there is a professional book scanner in Zurich - in the library of UZH Deutsches Seminar (Schönberggasse 9, 8001 Zürich) - freely available for any library user. The machine is busy <20%, from my experience (scanned 10+ books already), and the scanning is absolutely free. I could provide the exact details of the model if needed... --Balabinrm (talk) 20:25, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Hi Yann,
:Hi Balabinrm,
:Thanks for your message. Actually most university libraries have a scanner. I know 2 of them which have one in Geneva. And Zurich is a bit far for me. ;) So I dropped the idea to buy a scanner for now. However I am still interested in partnerships with GLAMs for scanning books. == Interviewing you about Structured Data on Commons ==

Hi Yann,

Firstly, I should introduce myself. I'm Jonathan Curiel with the Wikimedia Foundation, and I'm helping to work on WMF's Structured Data on Commons project. At Wikimania in Montreal, I'm interviewing Commons users about the project, and I'd like to interview you. I'd ask about implementing structured data into Commons, interacting with structured data, how best to involve the community, and other questions. Would you have 30 minutes at Wikimania? I'd try and accommodate any time you have available there.

Thanks so very much for your consideration. Appreciate any time you have. And I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

All my best,

Jonathan

Hi folks. If you're receiving this message, you've contributed to IdeaLab or an Inspire Campaign this year. Thanks for participating to develop ideas and review ones from other Wikimedians.

We are preparing some changes to IdeaLab and Inspire Campaigns. One of these changes is a new community space on Connect, where Wikimedians can find each other based on common activities or skills, and ask questions about the space. You are invited to join this community space for IdeaLab, especially if you would ever consider needing to find contributors with certain skills (like design or project management) or would like to offer your skills to others in our movement. Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

Invitation to affiliate members to complete a survey about WMF wide Universal Code of Conduct
Hello;
My name is Mervat, and I am helping the Trust and Safety team to reach out to affiliates in order to discuss the Universal Code of Conduct.

There has been talks about the need for a global set of conduct rules in different communities over time, and finally, Wikimedia Foundation Board announced a Community Culture Statement, enacting new standards to address harassment and promote inclusivity across projects.Since the universal code of conduct that will be a binding minimum set of standards across all Wikimedia projects, will apply to all of us, staff and volunteers alike, all around the globe, and will impact our work as groups, individuals and projects, it’s of great importance that we all participate in expressing our opinions and thoughts about UCoC, its nature, what we think it should cover or include and what it shouldn’t include; how it may develop, drawback or help our groups.   This is the time to talk about it. As you are a valuable contributor to the Wikimedia movement, your voice counts.
I don't know if it is the best place to ask this doubt. I am a Bureaucrat with Malayalam Wikipedia. Numbers displayed in Malayalam Wikipedia are not understood by most of the people who use it eventhough it is in Malayalam itself. The sad irony is that no one in Malayalam uses Malayalam digits at present(൦, ൧, ൨, ൩, ൪). They insted use Arabic digits ( 1,2,3...). Hence most of the users need the numbers to be displayed in Arabic or universal digit system (1,2,3,,,,.)

Before starting to draft the code of conduct, we would like to hear from you; We invite you to devote some minutes to take this survey; your answers will help us create a safer environment for all on Wikimedia:
When we use number of articles temp the result displayed cannot be understood by the readers!. I tried to find out from where these digtis come?. Is there any way to change the default settings. I thought you could help me....

It’s possible that you are a member of more than one affiliate; hence you may receive this survey more than once, and you may have participated previously in the discussions or filled out a previous survey during the first round of consultations about UCoC which targeted wikipedia/wikimedia communities. We apologize for this; it is really difficult to identify if a wikimedian belongs to multiple groups that work to spread free knowledge.

Looking forward to your thoughts and opinions and hoping that you can respond within the next 2 weeks. If you have any questions about the surveys or difficulties accessing the link, please contact me by email (msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org).<br>

Hello, my name is Mervat Salman, a UCoC Facilitator, Trust and Safety team.
Thanks
As you know, the WMF Board of Trustees ratified the Universal Code of Conduct early in February. That's the beginning; the policy itself cannot be used if the enforcement pathways are not defined. The implementation and enforcement of the UCoC requires the continuous cooperation to define clear definitions of enforcement pathways and processes. This needs to be done in a way that does not contradict with the internal bylaws and codes of conduct currently in place, but rather to support them and complement their deficiencies, if any.
Hi, this is just to say thanks for granting me bureaucrat/sysop status on the Welsh Wiktionary.
Thanks again,

In this phase of the process, we would like to invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns about the UCoC implementation, reporting and enforcement pathways using this survey:

::::My point ? You said the user was copying pages from "another wikipedia", that's what you've been doing all along, your own words, not mine. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:He didn't discuss it beforehand. When confronted, he did not stop to discuss it.
::AFAICS, you were the one being contacted, and you were the one not replying. --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:::What? I responded to him. Apparently you don't see it? He never responded to confrontation about moving pages. --Node ue 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:He was also very rude, and the reason I put for blocking him was "repeated personal attacks".
::::Where ? I see about 4 of his messages on your talk pages, all unreplied. And when you accuse people, be specific, saying "He..., I..." means nothing if you don't prove it with facts. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
::I can see you saying to him "You're improper", two times, you were asked to appologize, instead of doing that, you repeated your insult. I can't help but notice you accusing him of suckpuppetry with continuous harassment on that matter. Unfortunately, attacks (not even mentioning "repeated") on you are nowhere to be seen, would you mind being an ounce more explicit ? --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:::And who are you, "KappaXi"? I told him he was mistaken, why should I apologise when he said the exact same thing to me??? He personally attacked User:Russ when he told him he had no right to edit on mo.wiki. I never directly accused anybody of sockpuppetry and even if I did, it's hardly a personal attack.--Node ue 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:::: And surely since you know moldovan(romanian) so well you must know the difference between "Tu te gresesti" and "Tu esti gresit", don't you ? As for sockpuppetry, see and with your continuous implies "I know who the sockpuppeteer is but I won't tell you who", even though it has been later checked with a negative result. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:Despite such bad behaviour, I only blocked him for a duration of 3 days. I would not block a logged-in user for any longer than that because the issue of blocking on mo.wiki and apperance of impropriety has been discussed before. Also, I value free speech, and prefer to block somebody only for small times as a warning, so that they can still come back and discuss the issue at hand.
::Really ? So now the blockings can be done with no replies, no comments, no nothing, just because you think so ? Sounds sort of, you know, undemocratic ? --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:::Where do you get the idea that there was no dialogue proper to blocking? I told him he shouldn't move pages, it's not OK to move pages, but it's fine to write new ones. --Node ue 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
::::Hold on, let me have a look. Ok, just had a look at the conversation, the user told you that in constitution of RM it says that moldovan language is written using latin script, you replied (in your usual "proper" language) that yes, in the constitution of RM, but not in the "Constitution of Moldovan People" (what is that, by the way ?). There's absolutely nothing that I can see on his or your talk page with you warning about moving pages before you banned him, if you disagree, give a direct paste, I want to see that. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:Anittas (guy who voted against my adminship) is not, nor has he ever been, a contributor to mo.wiki. He said a few things on talk pages, and voted there. And his reason for voting against me was xenophobic in addition to incorrect (he voted against me because he thought I was Russian, which I am not). His history on the English Wikipedia is less than exemplary. --Node ue 01:25, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
::And since you keep that pretence of being democratically elected, would you mind elucidating us as to what is with this page: and why is Jeorjika and not you, clearly the winner there ? As for Annitas, well, Chris's vote shouldn't count either, he did not make any contributions except the vote. So it's merely Ronline who voted for you (and see the previous link on wikipedia-l, Ronline saying that although he supported it, the whole project is a failure now). So far how many votes, one, democratic elections you say, hardly. Judging by your talk pages on other wikis I'd say your behaviour is intolerable, you've been told many times, wikimedia is not a playground for inventing languages. I particularily like AdiJapan's response to your personal attacks on your en.wiki talk page, read that again. --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:::It's clear now that you're AdiJapan. This doesn't concern you. --Node ue 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
:::: What an answer, so much attention to all the details. Don't forget the other wikipedia you got desysopped from, that's what happens when you claim to know a language without knowing it. Better move this conversation to your meta page, no point in cluttering Yann's. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

92.184.106.205 14:32, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
In 9 January you desysoped the mowiki administrator without mentioning anywhere at meta. You mentioned just in his discution page without pointing to any "complain" just saying that there were complains. Please provide information about this issue and also mention it in the 2006 archive of Requests for permisions. Thank you, Romihaitza 20:59, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Call For Volunteer Facilitators Across Africa
Hello Yann,

Dear Wikimedian,

The Africa Narrative is seeking volunteer facilitators in Egypt (two volunteers) and Senegal (two volunteers) for the AfroCreatives Wikiproject.
:I am Harshal from Marathi Wikipedia. Currently I am sysop for the site. However I am unable to give my time regularly and hence I would like to nominate अभय नातू (Abhay Natu) as admin. Can you please guide me through this process?
:Thanks.
Harshalhayat 16:45, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

The AfroCreatives Wikiproject aims to support and mobilize creatives and professionals from the African creative sector, as well as enthusiasts more broadly, to contribute and enhance knowledge on Wikipedia about Africa’s creative economy. Its inaugural effort will target the film sectors of Egypt, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal.
Harshalhayat, I already granted yesterday permissions for that user after his request at RfP and "community approval". --Romihaitza 18:19, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

The Africa Narrative (TAN) is a non-profit that develops singular, high-impact initiatives in support of African creatives and the African cultural and creative industries with the aim to strengthen capacity in the continent’s creative economy and the global visibility of African cultural soft power.
desysoped
All volunteers must have full professional proficiency in English. In Senegal, they must have native or full professional proficiency in French; in Egypt, they must have native or full professional proficiency in Arabic. Volunteer facilitators should have a vast knowledge about Wikimedia projects and experience with teaching new editors. All volunteers will be compensated.
Sysop :en:Mikkalai had used his admin power to block a contributor in an outrageous attempt. Sysop :en:Mikkalai engaged in an edit war, then he blocked the opponents. The blocked user made only a single edit http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Moldovan_language&diff=36550116&oldid=36549555. Still :en:Mikkalai didn't reached consensus and was asked to stop the edit war http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mikkalai#Why_.3F by two other users. Still he blocked the user :en:user:86.106.51.95. There was also posted a notice on http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AAdministrators%27_noticeboard&diff=36558375&oldid=36557182 Wikipedia Administrator's noticeboard a message that concludes very good the bad behaviour of sysop :en:Mikkalai. The reason given by mikka is "blocking with an expiry time of 24 hours (offense)". Still there is not an offense in the edit [[http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Moldovan_language&diff=36550116&oldid=36549555. Why didn't explain sysop :en:Mikkalai what is the offense that he thinks it is?

Interested participants may sign up on the project's Meta page. You may also indicate your country and email if your Wikipedia account is not associated with any email address.
There is one more important aspect: :en:Mikkalai is well known for having Anti-Romanian feelings, he was even blocked once for that reason: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=block&user=&page=User%3AMikkalai.

The Africa Narrative/Volunteers
A desysoped should be just fine. Let the people free of this :en:Anti-Romanian contributor.

We will be glad if you can share with or recommend an Egyptian or Senegalese Wikipedian as well.
Admin abuse
I was blocked indefinitelly on false accusations that I am user:Bonaparte. Please check and do the proper measures against Sysop :en:Mikkalai. I see that is not the first case in which users are blocked by this sysop and no measure have been taken to stop his abuse of power. He uses his sysop power to block innocent people.

Merci d'avance, Amicalement,

Jagwar 16:37, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikinews.fr, que peut-on faire ?[edit]

Bonjour,

Reg:Hindi wiki[edit]

Hi Yann, This is reg hindi wiki. As u r an admin there, & also connected with wikimedia, I thought that u may see the request better.
I am thinking of a program segment, that senses the logged in status of a member, & places a green dot on online, red on busy, yellow on idle & grey on offline, just like orkut/google/G-talk, etc & many more. Can we have this fac, atleast for the sysops' status. If you can direct this issue to right hands, so nice of you. 10:53, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hello,
I think that your proposition would be violating Wikimedia privacy policy, so I don't think it would be accepted, and is even a good thing. Regards, Yann 11:37, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
So nice of you replying me,
But the things are quite different. As you might be aware about the Google, G-Talk & orkut, etc. The user holds an option to be invisible. That way, he appears to be grey (as if he is not online) while being very much online. Only when a user opts for Green status, the user is shown green. I think this suffice the solution for the privacy issue.--आशीष भटनागर 17:44, 2 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review[edit]

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Open Call for Individual Engagement Grants[edit]

Greetings! The Individual Engagement Grants (IEG) program is accepting proposals until April 12th to fund new tools, research, outreach efforts, and other experiments that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers. Whether you need a small or large amount of funds (up to $30,000 USD), IEGs can support you and your team’s project development time in addition to project expenses such as materials, travel, and rental space.

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources 15:57, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Community Wishlist Survey votes[edit]

Hi Yann, Thanks for participating in the Wishlist Survey! I'm sorry that this wasn't clear -- this is the proposals phase of the survey, when people are posting and discussing proposals. The voting phase starts in a couple weeks, on November 28th. We're not counting votes that are cast early, because the proposals can change during this phase, and you might end up voting for something that changes in a way that you didn't expect. I've added some text at the top of the page, explaining this better.

Thanks! -- DannyH (WMF) (talk) 19:02, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I'd like to remind you again that the voting phase has not started yet. Your input on individual proposals is most welcome, but the issue is by adding the Support Support template others may be mislead that it is a !voting survey. Thanks for your understanding! Copyright problem with File:Education and WGIG.pdf[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Education and WGIG.pdf. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at this page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Jusjih (talk) 03:33, 10 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jusjih,
I think it is historically important, as it mentions Wikipedia. There is no real copyright issue, but it doesn't have a formal license. We should be able to keep such files somewhere. Regards, Yann (talk) 19:40, 10 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

--Balabinrm (talk) 20:25, 1 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Balabinrm,
Thanks for your message. Actually most university libraries have a scanner. I know 2 of them which have one in Geneva. And Zurich is a bit far for me. ;) So I dropped the idea to buy a scanner for now. However I am still interested in partnerships with GLAMs for scanning books. Best regards, Yann (talk) 16:32, 2 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Interviewing you about Structured Data on Commons[edit]

Jonathan JCuriel (WMF) (talk) 01:14, 7 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

New community space for IdeaLab on Connect[edit]

To join, please proceed to Connect/IdeaLab and click on the "Add yourself" button on the right. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on Measuring Community Health[edit]

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:14, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because you are active in the field of translations <3 The movement needs you! The Nominations phase has started for the ongoing selection process of two Board members, and the timeline is quite tight.

A Translation Central is available to help translators figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome.

While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), you can also add others. If you can't help: please see if you know anyone in your circle who could, and spread the word :) Thank you! Elitre (WMF) and Facilitators of ASBS 2019, 13:20, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to affiliate members to complete a survey about WMF wide Universal Code of Conduct[edit]

Hello; My name is Mervat, and I am helping the Trust and Safety team to reach out to affiliates in order to discuss the Universal Code of Conduct.

Before starting to draft the code of conduct, we would like to hear from you; We invite you to devote some minutes to take this survey; your answers will help us create a safer environment for all on Wikimedia: (English): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd36dNdU3C5shXEkKp9itJOhuCTx9hZE5AE-xflkxtfRMnZtg/viewform?usp=pp_url

If you have any questions about the surveys or difficulties accessing the link, please contact me by email (msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org).

Results will be considered during the drafting process for the UCoC.

Thank you for your participation

Invitation to participate in Universal Code of Conduct survey - WikiWomen's User Group[edit]

(You are receiving this message as you signed your interest to participate as part of the WikiWomen's User Group)

Hello, my name is Mervat Salman, a UCoC Facilitator, Trust and Safety team.

In this phase of the process, we would like to invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns about the UCoC implementation, reporting and enforcement pathways using this survey:

Notice: This survey will be conducted via a third-party service, which may subject it to additional terms. For more information on privacy and data-handling, see the survey privacy statement <https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/UCoC_Affiliates_Survey_Privacy_Statement>.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org.

Best regards,

Quand vous écrivez look and feel, les outils d'administrateur me semblent inutiles. Cordialement. I was banned by you on Wikimedia Commons for uploading non-free files in March 2019. But Elcobbola branded me as Hoa112008's sockpuppet while I found out that Hoa112008 joined in June... how confusing! (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hoang42006).

Thanks for being able to edit your Commons profile with another template that says members are banned for non-free file downloads. I've been imagining him, haven't seen him say anything yet.--Hoang42006 (talk) 01:54, 13 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Hoang42006: Hoa112008 joined on 25 June 2019. Elcobbola is a checkuser, but it is A.Savin who blocked you on Commons. However you will have to ask on your talk page on Commons if you want to be unblocked. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:03, 13 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
You banned me first, but A.Savin reshaped and banned in March a few days later. A.Savin has quit his job, he is no longer active. It's confusing to assign me to sockpoppet. I also talked about this with Elcobbola, said it was a mistake, but he must have forgotten to edit his profile on the commons. Thanks for being able to edit your Commons profile with another template that says members are banned for non-free file downloads (which makes more sense to me), no need for you to unblock.
