This is a list of pages nominated for removal from this Wiki. Pages are deleted by meta administrators. These are typically pages created by newbies, pages created by vandals, technical mistakes, administrative changes, personal pages, pages whose content was relevant to other projects (wikipedias or wikibooks likely) and moved there.

All deletion should follow Meta deletion policy. If you object to the removal of a page, please give reasons and add your signature or user-name. To challenge an already-removed page, see Meta:Requests for undeletion. The list of recently deleted files is at Special:Log – an older list is available at Meta:Deletion log.

To propose a page for deletion put a notice on the page listed for removal: {{rfd}} (this will insert the rfd template at that point in the page).

If a page listed here is kept, please remove the above notice from the page before removing the page name from the list below.

Speedy deletion

The following are usually deleted without delay:

  • Vandal pages
  • Meaningless pages (containing skfhsdjfkhdjkshfdk)
  • Offensive pages (containing insults, swear words)
  • Personal pages per request of the user himself

Check for Speedy deletion candidates

The delete system being slightly broken, if you can not delete a page, add the template {{Can'tDelete}}.

If you want to propose a page for speedy deletion, insert {{Delete|~~~~}} on top of the page.

Don't list speedy deletion candidates here, thanks.

Routine deletion

Other pages (in particular irrelevant pages, copyright issues or regular clean up) are usually listed for at least 15 days. The 15 days deadline is longer than on local wikipedias, since users do not come on meta as often as they do on local wikipedias. The user who listed a page should ideally not be the one to delete it. Pages created by banned users (after banning) are sometimes left alone, sometimes deleted on sight, sometimes restored by others (if they have been deleted). A user banned on one wikipedia is not necessarily automatically banned on all wikipedias, so a ban from one wikipedia does not imply automatic deletion on meta itself. However, no speedy deletion of a page created by a banned user will be considered sysop abuse (to protect sysop freedom to fight against banned users). Other users may choose to consider the interest and validity of the content of the page first, and to keep/restore the page in question. Pages created before a ban are not automatically candidates for deletion.

Language issues

Meta is multilingual! Pages can be written in any language. Pages in unusual languages are not automatically candidates for deletion. If the value of a page in an unusual language/character-set is not obvious, the page can be listed here, but should not be deleted until someone who knows the language has seen it and commented on it.

Use of meta

Meta deletion policy is not wikipedia deletion policy. It must be built by the community of meta editors, and take into account meta peculiarities. As a reminder, meta has the following roles 1. Discussion and formulation of the wikipedia project itself, and in particular policy discussion 2. A forum for personal essays that are not necessarily NPOV 3. A place to organise and prepare content, to discuss interlanguage co-ordination issues 4. A place to coordinate the development process

Respect of this policy
Lack of respect for this deletion policy may result in a sysop being listed on Meta:Requests for adminship#desysop. It is very important for meta sysops to be careful in handling deletion, for the following reasons:

  • Meta is multilingual and multicultural, which means people may not communicate so easily as on local wikipedias. Pages may be in languages that the deleting sysop does not understand, adding to confusion.
  • Meta rules in terms of content are not as clear as wikipedia rules, so it is less clear what is welcome and what is not.
  • Meta is small and quiet compared to the larger Wikipedias; meta sysops don't know each other as well as if they were working together everyday. As a result, the web of trust may not be so easy to establish, so following the rules is important to show good will and respect for the work and opinions of others.

Unused images

As of 02:07, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC), there is 1759 unused images, except some like proposed logo, I propose hereby to delete most of them under the condition not deleting images which someone will list on the whitelist below. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 02:07, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

These images are now shown at Unused images 1, Unused images 2 and Unused images 3 so people can see what they are voting on. Angela 06:26, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • delete.--Shizhao 17:55, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Delete most of what is on Unused images 1 since these are "automatic conversions" (not including those on the whitelist below). A lot of Unused images 2 are logos and should be kept so we have a proper historical record of the Wikipedia logo contest. Unused images 3 is a mixture - keep the logos and delete the rest from that one. A few are corrupted (or have become orphaned since this RfD listing) and are not showing up on these three subpages. See Special:Unusedimages for those (not all of those should be deleted). Angela 06:43, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)/03:38, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)

4x4 type square templates

Template:Revid
These templates have no place on meta or any other project running on Wikimedia servers. Template inclusion is not optimised for this kind of use, putting these templates in any commonly viewed page will cause excessive database load. Gangleri, please generate the required tables using your own computing resources, then save the template-free results into the relevant Wikipedia or Wikibooks pages. The page list that I want deleted is at Meta:Requests for deletion/4x4 page list -- Tim Starling 23:05, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Related category: Category:4x4 type square -- Tim Starling 23:17, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Halló Tim! I noticed this deletion request last evening. Usually I can not be everywhere and did not read many Wikipedia etc. pages but I must admit that this is the first statement "have no place on meta or any other project running on Wikimedia servers" I could see. I am aware about the technical difference of the constructs I made which are somehow "procedural programming" and probably unique because of the level of nestings and because only named parameters are used which makes them more easier to understand.
One reason of creating them at meta was because of their complexity and because no other multilingual project was known to me. Two, three weeks before I lost 7,000 - 10,000 edits on a set of test wikis in a few seconds. I did not like that this should happen again.
Onother reason is that this is what meta is claiming to be (a multilingual project). Having the library here would allow contributors in other languages or projects to choose what the need.
Regarding "template inclusion is not optimised for this kind of use" I want to remember about bugzilla:02777 – "request for a {{substall:foo}} beside {{subst:bar}}" which is exactly that you mean with "save the template-free results into the relevant Wikipedia or Wikibooks pages". If I understand bugzilla:01126 – "Interwiki Templates" correctly it is another usefull requirement about sharing templates between projects in a similar fashion as images are shared from commons since end of last year. This should be a strategic achievement and many language projects whith less contributors would benefit from it.
Regarding "please generate the required tables using your own computing resources". I spend several months during the last years working on these (4x4 – Jain) and other squares and one aim (of creating pages on this subject) was to let anybody benefit from the results I found out. Most results are computed already as you can see looking at the history of all. I did not post more because of the size. I admit that I used the templates during the last days for the "commutativy check computations" but on the other hand this (transition of transitions – transition composition) is (according to me) something new for ilustrations and wiki technology. I did not experience any timeout at any time I worked at meta.
There are a lot of interesting topics related to the squares. Deleting the templates leads to a "chicken and egg" situation. How to create the articles without the templates / ilustrations?
I am not shure if the communities opinion counts here and would be interested about it. Every project reaches points (size, complexity, etc.) which could not be forseen at its start. Remember the fear about the database grow and the servers, remember deactivation of images in templates etc. The ability to change is somthing natural and essential for surviving. If it is to "early" to use and / or experiment with these constructs they could be "deactivated" and "protected". Then their history and the work on them would not le bost.
Another item I would like to know about relates to the time schedule or assistence. If the templates get deleted when? Is there a bot and a wiki where they can be transfered? http://wikimagic.com/ could be a place. It is a domain which I received as a gift and I have no ambitions about it.
Probably I can not attend Wikimania as intended in spring. Please drop some notes here or at my users page. Best regards Gangleri | Th | T 16:50, August 1, 2005 (UTC)
Use Special:Export to generate an XML dump of the necessary pages, then import them into the wiki of your choice. Set one up yourself if you like. I have nothing about displaying examples of these transformations on wikibooks, I just have something against using MediaWiki to perform those transformations on every page view. Just do the transformations by hand on paper, then transcribe the results into tables. As for the months you spent on it, well, maybe you should try using Matlab or C++ instead, I'm sure you would have found the development time to be much shorter. You could even have put the code online, as a demonstration to students who wish to do a similar thing. -- Tim Starling 20:06, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Halló Tim! Thanks for the answer. I think there are is a simpler approach. Just take a look at Template talk:4x4 type square/T/table/(code). There is no need to copy all / some of the templates at other projects. The mentioned page used as a parameter is a "code factory" for anyone without a need of using Mathlab, C++ etc. Maybe we should ask what users wants this or would be able to insert "(code)" in the existing / future examples available already at the template talk pages in Category:4x4 type square.
addendum: make a preview, copy the generated code and paste it to the destination page.
I do not mind if these templates get lost. If they should be deleted so what, it will not change the world; I will not take this personally. But maybe others can benefit of them and meta would be the place deserving its name.
What I am puzzeled are your objections. Other pages are using templates as well. "putting these templates in any commonly viewed page will cause excessive database load" probably relates to the complexity. This would no longer be an issue with the method described above. Do you agree?
By the way. During the development I reported some discovered bugs about page rendering. It seems that the work was not useless. Best regards Gangleri | Th | T 22:29, August 1, 2005 (UTC) – Gangleri | Th | T 11:03, August 2, 2005 (UTC)
The original replay was lost. See:

You can see the use of the "code factory" at de:Magisches Quadrat and de:Diskussion:Magisches Quadrat. Regards Gangleri | Th | T 23:52, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

Keep or delete?

Delete I can't find any relevance to meta on those templates, and it was annoyed those edits took over meta RC. Multilingualism on meta is in purpose of serving our projects - meta has not to serve any multilingualism. --Aphaia++ 01:38, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback

"A place to organise and prepare content, to discuss interlanguage co-ordination issues" – to my understanding this applies here
  • In response to Aphaia:
  1. Maybe you are disappointed because I did not decitate my time for the translations of Wikimania texts. The reason is quite simple: I asked for a login possibility but did not receive any response. Please respect that I do not like to contribute to sites / subdomains where I can not log in.
  2. Is "it was annoyed those edits took over meta RC" an argument? Would you have prefered contributions like "This three will never stop growing. It will reach the sky." (compare 1.Mose 11,4) By the way there are many entries in the RC lines at various projects some about real wars I would not like to comment here further. Most of the contributions I made where marked as minor change, quite easy to filter.
  3. Mathematics and algebra is not Wikispecies: having a dedicated site. Rome was not build in a day. You are about to stop the work before the description purpose is made and before the various Wikipedia / Wikibook projects about mathematics where contacted and had a chance to respond. Best regards Gangleri | Th | T 21:13, August 3, 2005 (UTC)

All files are unused/replaced by images from the commons and some aren't currently up to date. Schaengel89 @me 14:41, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I oppose this unless it is very clear that these images really are on the commons in an identical form. This edit changed the images, and not to equivalent versions on the commons, but to different logos. For example, Image:Nohat-logo-X-en.png is very different from Image:Wikipedia-logo.png which has no text. Image:Nohat-logo-X-en.png is also linked to externally, which is why it needed the disclaimer and link to en. Many of the ones you've listed here are either not on the commons, or there is no way of finding them, since the file names are not the same. For example, where is someone meant to find Image:Wikipedia-logo-mBanyumasan.PNG on the commons? Angela 21:01, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Full ACK @ Angela. Please note that Schaengel89 already caused several (not a few) wrong deletions of images on some projects, and that he was already told more than once to stay away from all Wikimedia image stuff. Of course, good willing, he wants to order things in a better way, but too often does the exact opposite. So please be very, very careful with all his requests and double check all of his proposals. Be aware, that some are reasonable, some others are totally stupid. That's what I have to state at this occasion. --:Bdk: 14:44, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

the "/" between unused and replaced means "or". to see all wikipedia logos on the commons click here. an explanation for this naming reform can be found here. Image:Wikipedia-logo-mBanyumasan.PNG is an logo of an wikipedia edition that I don't know. it's even not listed in Wikipedia logo in each language. I really don't know what language that is. anyway, the design is not the same as all other logos have. that's way I think, it's unused. and it dosen't matter if there's any link in the description of Image:Nohat-logo-X-en.png. If the image is delete once, no one could see that link. now you got the idea, I hope. Regards, Schaengel89 @me 21:26, 21 August 2005 (UTC) Now I found out: Image:Wikipedia-logo-mBanyumasan.PNG is the logo of the Indonesian 'pedia. but Image:Nohat-logo-X-id.png is the actual one.
