Description :

Africa is home to the largest population of young people in the world, with over 60% of its population under the age of 25. Technology is the fuel of the fourth industrial revolution, which could provide a lifeline to this young, tech-savvy and eager population. Given their sheer numbers, they have the ability to transform their regions and empowering Africa's youth to be champions of Free Knowledge is paramount for the future of Knowledge and education in the continent. Africa is also home to most of the emerging Wikimedia communities and it's about time we have an afro-centered approach that aims at creating a sustainable Wikimedia community in Africa. In this session, we explore the state of youth engagement in the movement in the present and aspirations for the future through the eyes of four young, vibrant African youth, who have been meaningfully engaged in the Wikimedia Movement in different capacities.
