== Requests ==
If you would like to receive official Wikinews credentials, please file a request below in the form. After the posting, the user's entry will solicit Support/Object votes from Wikinews users for the duration of 7 days for accreditation and 14 for revocation. At the expiration of this time period the user will either be granted accreditation, or the vote removed from this page and [[Wikinews:Accreditation requests/Archives|archived]]. In the case of revocation a case may be closed early, but no earlier than 7 days, when there is overwhelming consensus.

== Revocations ==
Copy and paste the following onto the bottom of the Requests section and fill in the sections if you desire to apply for Accreditation.</br>
'''For requests for revoking credentials, {{tl|Remove}} means "remove accreditation" and {{tl|Keep}} means "keep accreditation."'''
</br>
{{Wikinews:Accreditation/Accreditation Form}}
</br>
Note: When archiving requests use <nowiki>{{closed-ar-box|successful or failed}}</nowiki> then type <nowiki>{{closed-ar-footer}}</nowiki>. It is recommended that requests are only moved to the archive when the @wikinewsie has been created and when the user is listed at [[Wikinews:Credential verification|accredited users]].

<!-- Please list cases below this line. -->

Once accredited, you can get a personal email address on [http://www.wikinewsie.org Wikinewsie]. Please contact user [[Brian McNeil]] about this, your email address will be made up based on the details given when applying - if you have a middle name and you feel having this in the address (or its initial) is important, please say so. You must either provide an existing email address for the password to be sent to, or have enabled email from your en.wikinews account and specify this as the preferred contact method. For further information, see [http://www.wikinewsie.org/wiki/Public:Email this page] on Wikinewsie. Requests for an email address must be verifiable - either submit via 'email this user', or signed, and on Brian McNeil's talk page.

* You will find most contributors here on enWN are totally unable to assess your contributions to Tamil Wikinews and thus assess your suitability for issuing an accreditation from here. --'' [[Brian McNeil|Brian McNeil <small>(alt. account)</small>]] ''/'''[[User talk:Scots Don|alt-talk]]'' &bull; '''[[User talk:Brian McNeil|main talk]]'''' 19:11, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

*{{oppose|weak oppose}}. I would like to see other languages formulate accreditation policies, but without a well-established community that has cross-wiki language links to here, there is no way to judge if someone is suitable for accreditation, appropriately trustworthy, or vouched for by someone from the Tamil Wikinews that is well-known to people here. --'' [[Brian McNeil|Brian McNeil <small>(alt. account)</small>]] ''/'''[[User talk:Scots Don|alt-talk]]''' &bull; '''[[User talk:Brian McNeil|main talk]]''' 19:11, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

* {{oppose|oppose}}. We have discussed this in Tamil Wikimedia community. The Tamil Wikinews project is in its very early stage. This is too early to consider such request for anyone. We would like the community to grow a bit and then draft procedures and qualifications for such requests as a policy decision. User: Mahir has also expressed his willingness to withdraw this request. Thanks--[[User:Ravidreams|Ravidreams]] ([[User talk:Ravidreams|talk]]) 11:20, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
*{{oppose}} for the same reason I opposed Ezarate below; we're just not in position to determine whether or not you'd make a good accredited reporter as practically nobody here speaks Tamil. Perhaps the Tamil Wikinews should consider implementing its own accreditation process instead of requesting it here. * {{oppose|Weak oppose}} for now. I can't decide whether I think you should be accredited because I'm not familiar with you or your contributions - as you haven't contributed ''here''. If I understand properly, you want the accreditation for work on other another language edition of Wikinews, but we're not really in position to make a proper assessment of your contributions. Please don't think that this is a personal reflection on you, I'm sure you're a very helpful user at Wikinoticas, but I just don't know enough about you to consider supporting. Perhaps es.wikinews should consider coming up with its own accreditation policies instead of coming here to request it? * {{oppose|Strong oppose}} the user doesn't write a good news in es.wikinews. His articles doesn't have a good complexity to be an article and he writes many histories about his town (Tandil, Argentina) and don't write about anothers news in anther places on the Earth. The user doesn't have a "community life" and sometimes have a problem with identificate a news from a Wikipedia's article. Sorry for Ezarate, but a news reporter acredited must be a excelent reporter and not only a good writer of news (perhaps this request, shows him that is a good user but doesn't a news writer). <small>To english community, please sorry for my poor english level, because I'm a basic student of english. ===Inactive Auto-Revokes ===
As policy change some months ago, all accreditation's are now subject to a 2 year "expiration". As part of this process, all users currently on the [[Wikinews:CV#Inactive_accredited_Wikinews_users|inactive list]] are to have to accreditation automatically revoked unless otherwise request. This is a formality thread (please, no voting). If you are an inactive user, received a noticed about your credentials expiring, and '''wish to retain them, please post a note here'''. --[[User:ShakataGaNai|<span style="color:#8B0000">'''S'''hakata'''</span><span style="color:#006400">G'''a</span><span style="color:#00008B">'''N'''ai</span>]] [[User Talk:ShakataGaNai|^_^]] 20:29, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

==== Requests to "keep" ====
''(Please, no voting)''
* '''Keep''' - Lawton, Robert - plus add my vote for a badge. It's freaking embarrassing not having an ID. Oh, and I was accredited last year - so it's only been one year and not two. [[User:Rklawton|Rklawton]] ([[User talk:Rklawton|talk]]) 20:53, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
** Well the ID project is why I created & had the expiration policy approved. It is why I am doing what I am doing now. Unfortunately this expiration policy doesn't apply to the old accounts, once you re-up - it'll be fine. --[[User:ShakataGaNai|<span style="color:#8B0000">'''S'''hakata'''</span><span style="color:#006400">G'''a</span><span style="color:#00008B">'''N'''ai</span>]] [[User Talk:ShakataGaNai|^_^]] 21:01, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
*** So am I re-upped? [[User:Rklawton|Rklawton]] ([[User talk:Rklawton|talk]]) 21:10, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
**** Nah, that's down the line. Basically it'll be a really simple vote for all the users needing to be re-up'd. Unless someone has a specific complaint about you, you'll pass. Fear not, the system is totally convoluted and I have no idea how it'll work till it works (making this up as I go along) --[[User:ShakataGaNai|<span style="color:#8B0000">'''S'''hakata'''</span><span style="color:#006400">G'''a</span><span style="color:#00008B">'''N'''ai</span>]] [[User Talk:ShakataGaNai|^_^]] 21:11, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

I'll try to get someone to close it and officially accredit you (I would do it myself, but I'm not able to create @wikinewsie email addresses or give out press passes. I think Brianmc is in control of that) [[User:Tempodivalse|<font face="Georgia">'''Tempodivalse'''</font>]] [[User talk:Tempodivalse#top|<font face="Georgia">[talk]</font>]] 05:09, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

*'''Urgent''': ''Request short term accreditation for tommorow to cover action.'''
*Name: Jules Mattsson
*Location: London, UK
*Areas of interest: Original reporting, particularly photo-wise. Mainly cover protests and grassroots politics.
*Reason: I often photograph protests etc around London, my interest is only really in OR, it's the most interesting part. I'd like to apply for accreditation to help me with my OR and so I can contribute loads more stuff to WN. I'm particularly applying now because of an action this Thursday (10th Dec) which I’ll cover for WN, for which having accreditation would be a bit of a must.
*Accomplishments: I often photograph grassroots politics in London, mainly protests and pressure groups. I have previously had images published and used commercially, as well as published in places like Indymedia. Only written once for wikinews, unfortunately soon after that I had some kit damage to my camera and couldn't get it repaired for ages, also had college exams. But the wikinews article I’ve written is here [[Protesters against police violence surround London's Scotland Yard]]. I know that isn’t much, but I've only really starting to contribute to wikinews that one occasion and I’ll contribute more in the coming months, starting with the action on the 10th Dec . To verify that I do cover these demos and that's my WN was not just a one off check out my Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/julesmattsson/) and a couple of Facebook albums (http://www.facebook.com/photos.php?&id=746742920&s=12&hash=ee1a2fec5f7595798af55c234090691c#/album.php?aid=84652&id=746742920&op=12 and http://www.facebook.com/photos.php?&id=746742920&s=12&hash=ee1a2fec5f7595798af55c234090691c#/album.php?aid=84714&id=746742920&op=12) (Yeah, I’ve since realised the error of my ways and switched to flickr, that was a one off.) I haven’t really put all my demo photos online, as ones done for commercial use will stay on my computer and with the client, I won’t put them up anywhere as that would be a breach of contract in some circumstances.

This is likely to change as much of the landscape of my original area of concern, en.Wikipedia, is stabilising, or has already full stabilised, and it is time to move on: Wikinews seems a sensible new focus. It is likely that I will be doing some original reporting and accreditation would be a useful adjunct to that end. Latest revision as of 21:57, 4 January 2024

Accreditation requests (AR) is the process by which the Wikinews community decides which users can be recognized as official Wikinews reporters.

Requests[edit]

Asheiou (talk)[edit]

Name: Ash Shay Thawley
Location: West Midlands, United Kingdom
Areas of interest: Politics, social events, internet
Reason: I've not been here long, but I think I could really contribute much more to the project if I receive accreditation. There is a lot happening in my region over the summer, and having a thing to point at to say "I am a legitimate reporter" would help me create news stories more effectively.
Accomplishments: I've done a bit of OR for Wikinews already, as well as published a few articles. You can find a couple of other articles I've written on my personal website. There's a bit of a mix on there, so the link will bring you directly to news-style synthesis articles.
I've also done a bit of work on Wikipedia, you can see my major contributions and permissions over there on my Wikipedia userpage.
Contact information: ash@asheiou.uk is my main email for matters like this.

Questions and comments[edit]

Question Your first edit was on June 9. It's awfully early to request accreditation, regardless of how good your early work has been. Your edit count on other wikis is not that extensive, either. The above listed events seem to be public, so you should be able to attend without credentials or a press pass. What special access would accreditation give you (and I don't mean just a free ticket)? Cheers, --SVTCobra 21:20, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I applied early because I know that things around here run quite slowly, and I am hoping to prove myself as I keep working with the site. I contacted these events as to what services they offer press pass holders, but I haven't yet received a response. It's my hope that they may provide a level of "backstage" access for media, which is quite common in the UK. I am not sure about the specific circumstances for each event, but I am in contact with their organisers and will provide more information here the moment that I receive it. Asheiou (talk) 02:11, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, but it will be good to know if it is needed before stirring up dormant Wikinewsies. There are still 2-3 months before any of the events. SVTCobra 02:25, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a quote from my correspondence with Player1 Events, who run Insomnia - "you will also have access to the press office and dedicated press management on site to help out". This could be very useful for directly speaking to people involved in the running of the event, maybe getting a couple high-value interviews for the site. The other two events haven't yet responded but I have contacted them. Asheiou (talk) 13:55, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Questions and comments[edit]

I will be taking some action on this soon.--Bddpaux (talk) 18:31, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Votes[edit]

Oppose: Wikinews doesn't just grant accreditation to random people who ask for it. A prospective accredited reporter must first build up trust with the community, getting published here and perhaps even doing original reporting without accreditation. Why should any of us trust you at this time? You have no published articles, and the only one you've written, "10 Difference between Twitter and Threads", was a blatant copyvio and stands in complete opposition to our pillars of writing; we write news, not comparisons between social media platforms. You have two edits, making this request and creating that article. Your only edit on another project was to spam links to the site you copied from. And you've provided no justification for why you need accreditation. Heavy Water (talk) 15:16, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose: I have not yet seen you contribute constructively to the project. You're more than welcome to build up some rapport with the community by writing articles and then reapply! Ash Thawley (talk) (calendar) 15:14, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose: No other undeleted edits here. One constructive edit on en.wp, plus spam as mentioned above. Five edits on Urdu Wikipedia, which I can't read, but most of them have been reverted. Thriftycat (talk) 20:46, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Questions and comments[edit]

Comment Your 'reason' is insufficient. Accreditation is not needed to contribute. --SVTCobra 17:02, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question What does your accomplishment 'Trump on border security' even mean? --SVTCobra 17:02, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Votes[edit]

Oppose: As is usually said to anyone with no experience here: Why should we trust you? Your only other edit on Wikinews is creating your user page. Nor do you have extensive experience on other Wikimedia projects. Your reason for application seems to suggest you think you need to be accredited to write for Wikinews, which is certainly not the case. Heavy Water (talk) 18:51, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: Only edits are this request and user page. --SVTCobra 17:03, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: Did little (almost nothing) and vanished.--Bddpaux (talk) 16:33, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Revocations[edit]

For requests for revoking credentials, {{Remove}} means "remove accreditation" and {{Keep}} means "keep accreditation."

Note: only accredited reporters who have misused their credentials (with concrete evidence) may be listed here.
