Welcome
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

WW1 svg
You probably won't screw it up to where it won't load again, that problem was the bitmap image you'd put in the background. To avoid screwing it up in the sense of text not showing up: if you create any new text objects, don't use the "flow" option. You shouldn't have any problems resizing existing ones. —Random832 01:53, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Mm-triangle-rmc.svg
Thanks for uploading Image:Mm-triangle-rmc.svg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. 85.179.116.198 09:32, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

SVG tagging
Hi, I saw you tagged this [1]. Just to make sure I understand the intention right: an SVG version of that image already exists and is mentioned on the description page (the PNG is in fact derived from it). Was that an oversight on your part or do you intentionally tag such cases too?
I've been accustomed to upload PNG exports of my Inkscape maps, because the SVG originals sometimes don't display reliably the same in different browsers and the Mediawiki renderer itself failed to render certain Inkscape features last time I looked. Fut.Perf. ☼ 18:04, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, my mistake. I added a {{Vector version available}} template now. It Is Me Here (talk) 07:51, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, great, thanks for showing me that tag. I'll start using that on my uploads then. Fut.Perf. ☼ 08:13, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

SVG template for Image:Answer to Life.png
Image:Answer to Life.png is not a viable candidate for SVG. The drop shadow, radial "burst" gradient, and the rocky texture behind the gradient are extremely impractical to create in SVG, if not impossible. According to Commons:Media for cleanup, "Certain JPEGs and PNGs are not suitable for transfer to the SVG format. These include heavily or artistically shaded images". I have removed the {{SVG}} template accordingly. -Kotra (talk) 22:54, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- OK, fair enough, I didn't know that. I do apologise! It Is Me Here (talk) 17:21, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Help in translation
Hi, I'm Giorgio. I'm italian and, among all the other things that I'm doing here in Commons, I'm following the project related to the italian admiral Ernesto Burzagli. At the moment we are scanning all his material and uploading it on commons. Recently we found a document written in russian or, at least, in cyrillic alphabet. Can you help us with the translation? Here the link: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Rusaw.jpg. Thank you--Giorgiomonteforti (talk) 21:53, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hi there - it seems that someone else has beaten me to it now! Do message me if you ever require something similar to be done in future. It Is Me Here (talk) 09:22, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
File:Bw_anarchist_flag.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
