Re: BART map SVG[edit]

The text in the image seemed to get distorted at some resolutions. When clicking on the image itself ([1]), you can see how the text appears very large and out of place. A PNG image corrects this issue, so the image is just one layer and appears the same at all resoltions. I think that the image has too many objects to be uploaded as an SVG. –Dream out loud 21:52, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That has nothing to do with resolution, that is due to the font rendering in your browser. It renders properly in Wikipedia and in Inkscape. I'm removing those tags and marking the PNG for deletion. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 20:18, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Brands of the World[edit]

Hi Chris, I was wondering on how you converted the EPS's on brands of the world, to SVG's. I have tried using pstoedit (by the way i'm running Ubuntu Linux) but can't seem to get the library for SVGs working. Could you offer me help on how to do this. Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Union City seal[edit]

The reason I ask is that I was having a lot of trouble determining what license was to be used for municipal city property, since the only templates or policies I could find for government images were for federal or state one. I ultimate went to Union City's City Hall, where I asked one of the government administrators to upload it. UCstaffer was that person. He created that account in order to do so, and hasn't used it since, so I would imagine he never got your message. Had I known about this, I would've told him. Now I guess I have to go back to City Hall to ask him to reupload it. What license should we use? Do you know? Nightscream (talk) 20:18, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, shit. Sorry about that, it wasn't clear from the info. Maybe you can get the deletion reversed by an admin? I'm not sure if the city can place the seal under a free license. If they can, they should make their choice in license from this list. They should file an OTRS ticket to make clear that permission is explicitly granted and put {{OTRS pending}} on the image page. Now, if they can't choose a free license for the logo legally, then it could still be used on the EN wiki under fair use. You might be able to get an admin to help with getting the deleted image out and putting it on EN. Try asking an admin at COM:ANB. Hi Chris, Thanks for the recent updates. RSGB and Ofcom agreed in late 2012 that the UK 5 MHz/60m 'Experimental' tag was no longer required, so now the UK's a candidate for blue rather than green. Is there a 'flatter' map projection available - reason I say this is that with some more European countries now coming on, that area seems somewhat compressed and would seem harder to make out? Hi Paul. AFAIK, UK licensees require a "notice of variation", and only Full licensees can apply. So I don't think this qualifies as a regular allocation. If not "experimental", perhaps "limited". I chose File:BlankMap-World-Microstates.svg as the base map because it shows "microstates" as circles which can be quickly identified to show variation. The other base maps don't have this.
