I didn't see anything in the article about the big plans to update the site, so I summarized some points made in an article I happened to see online.

Your assistance please

You closed Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Ashley_Kirilow as delete on August 20th, 2010. I started User:Geo Swan/Ashley Kirilow two days later, on August 22nd, 2010.
(Woah. I didn't mean to leave such a long note. If you don't think you have the patience to read the whole thing, could you skip to the last question?)

I can see the edit summary I used when I started it says "complicated". That was careless of me. I definitely should not have used an edit summary like that, without leaving an explanation in User talk:Geo Swan/Ashley Kirilow.

My recollection was that someone else started the article, and that it was a weak article at that point. I am pretty sure I added references and made other improvements to the article, while the article was under discussion. FWIW I don't think those expressing delete opinions appreciated:

1. what a big story this was, in Canada;
2. that the story received world-wide coverage, even in the non-English press;
3. that because Kirilow had tried to organize as much public scrutiny as possible, when she was arranging fund-raising events on her own behalf, means that she should be considered a public person, not a private person, and so the protections we built into WP:BLP, to protect private persons do not apply to her;
4. that Kirilow's case was then, and continues to be, mentioned in the context of how her fraud effected the fund-raising efforts of legitimate cancer sufferers.

I think the reason I put User:Geo Swan/Ashley Kirilow in user-space is that I was multi-tasking, that I was working on adding new references to the main-space version of Ashley Kirilow, and doing some other activities. I think when I was finally able to return to save my revisions to the main-space version, the system advised me that it had been deleted.

If that is what I did then I think that could be a problem, unless my drafts had already rewritten the article to the extent that none of the earlier contributor's intellectual contributions remained.

You can see I have returned to the user-space page to add more material. I have returned several times. Unfortunately I don't have time to do more work on the article in November.

So, I have a couple of questions for you:

1. Am I correct that, as the closing administrator, if you thought that the concerns raised in the {{afd}} no longer applied, you have the authority to OK a main space article on Kirilow?
2. Am I correct that, as the closing administrator, if you thought that a draft had been prepared that adequately addressed the concerns raised in the {{afd}}, you would have the authority to OK a main space article on Kirilow?
   • If this is the case, would you have the time to give suggestions as to what you would require to feel satisfied that the concerns expressed in the {{afd}} had been adequately addressed?
3. Do you think the revision history of User:Geo Swan/Ashley Kirilow showing that I am actively working on trying to prepare a draft that merits inclusion in article space, combined with the {{userspace notes}} tag on it, shows that I am not lapsing from WP:NOTWEBHOST? No one, but other wikipedia contributors, who are actually looking for material on Kirilow will find my notes.
4. Similarly, do you think the revision history of User:Geo Swan/Ashley Kirilow showing that I am actively working on trying to prepare a draft that merits inclusion in article space, combined with the {{userspace notes}} tag on it, shows that I am not lapsing from WP:FAKEARTICLE? No one, but other wikipedia contributors, who are actually looking for material on Kirilow will find my notes. I was not really aware of WP:FAKEARTICLE until very recently. Now that I am aware of it I think it was drafted before we started to expect userspace drafts to be protected by __NOINDEX__.
5. You may tell me that even though I have shown continuing work on the draft it is about to overstay its tenancy in user-space.
   • If you don't think it has overstayed, how seriously do you think I should be concerned that the remaining intellectual content of the original contributors is not being acknowledged?
   • Do you think that User:Geo Swan/Ashley Kirilow is sufficiently different that I don't need to be concerned over honoring the rights of the original contributors to have their content acknowledged?
   • If an improved draft is approved for inclusion in article space do you think it would be sufficient to graft on the revision history, pre-deletion, at that time?
   • I believe that administrators have the tools to graft the revision histories of two separate pages together. But I don't know how difficult that is, or whether most administrators know how to do this. If you yourself know how to do this, and you don't think my work in user-space is stale-dated, would you consider grafting on the pre-deletion revision history of Ashley Kirilow to User:Geo Swan/Ashley Kirilow?

OK, I'm going to try to answer these as best I can, although I think some of it is IAR-y:

1. I think any admin could do that (or rather, you could move it into mainspace, and any admin could decline a {{db-repost}} on it if the content was not substantially similar to the deleted copy). A new AfD would then be needed if someone wanted to do that.
2. Same as above.
3. I think the main concern in the AfD was that the event was more notable than the actual person, so the article should be focused around the scam itself, not just Kirilow. If you shifted the article more toward the scam and titled it about the event, it would pass (IMO) BLP1E. Obviously, a lot of Kirilow info will still be present because, well, she was the scammer, but that's OK.
4. Seems fine.
5. Also fine. FAKEARTICLE is about drafts that lay around without being touched for around six months or more.
6. Doesn't seem overstayed to me. The content seems different enough, and I can easily combine the page histories. If you want to move it to mainspace, though, I'd still suggest making the article more on the scam to avoid another BLP1E-based AfD from someone.

Does it matter? New users don't simply appear and start disrupting something as obscure as portals right off the bat. Black Imperial aka "Young Jonii" again

Hi Fetch. Sorry to have to report that our old name-jumping bandspam friend BlackImperial is back, and has recreated the "Young Jonii" article (almost certainly about himself) in his userspace, here. Based on his signing up for a music distribution site that anyone can join for $10 per single, (his particular page on that site is here), he also added this redlink to insinuate himself into a list of artists signed to Island Records. (I've since deleted him from that list.) I think I remember that you deleted another "Young Jonii" page from his userspace once before, and here's a related warning you gave him, among the great many he's received across multiple accounts. Finally, based on this edit, on the IP's edit history, and the fact that it geolocates to Alabma where our friend appears to have just started college, it seems very likely that 207.157.121.33 is the same person, also. Can you and User:Lectonar please revert your deletion of the Design and Artists Copyright Society entry?

The Design and Artists Copyright Society (http://www.dacs.org.uk/) is involved in lobbying the UK government through meetings with ministers, it should be recorded in wikipedia for us to have information on it. Please address the issues of the page:

• The copy I deleted was a copyright violation. I cannot restore that unless the copyright holder gives permission for the text to be licensed under the CC-BY-SA, which is the copyright license Wikipedia uses. But even if such permission is given, the content is still too promotional/advertising-sounding to be appropriate.
• The copy Lectonar deleted was a one-sentence, unverifiable article that did not say why the society is notable. That is, why does it deserve to be on Wikipedia? Why is it famous enough to have an article? Etc. Usually, it would have to either win some major award(s), or it has to have been covered in multiple, independent publications (e.g., news articles, magazines, books, academic journals, etc.), to be notable.

I suggest that you create a new draft article that includes references to these independent sources, and is not written in the tone of an advertisement, and submit the draft to Articles for creation. I'm rewriting it; every revision from the beginning either contained mainly copyrighted text or was an advert. 98% of the entire first revision was lifted from this. Leave new sections at the bottom of talk pages, always :) OK, this will take some time, and will require a bit of work (and you'll need to check back literally every day and work on it every day when the article is being reviewed before becoming a GA) but it seems doable. Before going for GA, though, I suggest asking for a peer review—an informal review process where any user can leave comments on how to improve the article. Please see Wikipedia:Peer review on how to start the peer review process; if you do not understand, I can start it for you.

After people have left comments, you should address any issues they raise, fix everything they point out, etc. and then go to GAN (good article nominations), following the directions there on starting the GA process. Again, if you are not sure what to do here, just ask me. It will probably take a few weeks and you'll need to promptly address any concerns raised, so check back every day to see if someone has started the GA review.

Third WP:USPP Assessment

Hi Fetchcomms! Thanks so much for your help on the Public Policy Initiative assessments. I really appreciate all your help -- we'll be in great shape when Amy gets back, thanks to all of your efforts! The next round of assessments is ready for you to review. Like the previous round, please pick 10 of the articles to review from the list, and it's especially critical that you use the version I've linked to for these.

This round measures the baseline quality of articles before our students started working on them. Many of these articles have undergone drastic revision already, so it may not be useful to leave comments about them on the talk pages. We'll be asking you to review the same set of articles once students have finished them too, so please be sure you're using the links provided so you're getting the versions immediately prior to when the students made their first edits. Ideally, these assessments should be completed by December 1.

I anticipate this taking a lot less time than previous rounds, as many of these articles are quite short. If you have extra time and want to help, please go back to round two and do a few more assessments -- especially on any articles that have only one or two assessments completed. I need a minimum of three assessments for each article, and some of the articles farther down the list still need attention.

Article Feedback Tool Help?

Hey Fetchcomms. I noticed you signed up for the Article Feedback Workgroup. I was wondering if you'd like to help us with Phase 2 of the feature. A goal for this phase is to better understand how these ratings reflect article quality. To do this, we're going to be applying the article feedback tool to page which we are fairly certain will undergo substantial revision in the near future (e.g., upcoming elections, movies, etc.). We can then evaluate the ratings before and after the substantial revisions and see if the revisions actually impact ratings.

Would you have time to help manage the articles that we're putting the feedback tool on? We're created a list of Additional Pages, but there are some other ideas that are floating around as well. It would be great if we could get some help coordinating these additional pages and then communicating with the English Wikipedia community. For more background, please check out this post and the Phase 2 design doc.

The Minor Athlete thing

Looking over the DRV where people were calling for an RfC, I note that the main question people wanted addressed at RfC seemed to be more a question of notability rather then BLP per-se. Question on old closed AfD

You closed an AfD discussion on the article Manifesto: Together Facing the New Totalitarianism back on September 7th. The result of the discussion was for the article to be merged to Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy. I ran across the Manifesto article today and spent some time improving it. Because of that, I think a reassessment needs to be made in terms of the merge result. I was wondering what my correct step in challenging it should be, since it seems far, far too late to take it to DRV and that wouldn't really fit anyways since the AfD discussion went fine and I just happened to improve the article after the fact. Basically, if the improved article addresses the issues raised at the AfD, it doesn't need to be merged. Weird templates?

Hey, Fetch, would you kindly take a look at these templates: {{Tenterden}} and {{Rolvenden}}. An editor has been adding them to articles for the purpose of getting rid of the orphan tags on his articles, some of which I doubt are notable. See the discussion at the bottom of my Talk page. Do you think anything ought to be done? And, in any case, should the template be at the bottom of the Ellen Terry article? Any help or advice appreciated. I made an editing mistake today that exacerbated the issue, so I'd rather not remove any templates myself. All the best! Ssilvers (one of the Online Ambassadors).

Ah, yes, I saw that ANI post ten minutes ago or so.
