He was also the frontman of funk rock outfit The Behaviour, and albeit relatively short-lived, the band achieved national and international TV and radio exposure but never realised the potential of the sum of its parts. During his time running record label and artist management company Cherry Moon, Jay composed and produced albums for several artists and was instrumental in the creation of a government backed sectoral lead body for the Northern Irish music industry.
Jay is a former pupil of Redburn Primary School and Sullivan Upper School in Holywood. During his final school year, he was awarded the H.M.M. Rae Cup for Music, and won a much coveted travel bursary to further his music studies in London. He later gained a diploma in Sound Technology & Music Business from New York University

Early career
His DJ'ing career began as a young teenager hosting school discos and hospital radio. In the mid 80's Jay had moved into full time club DJ'ing and held down various residencies and regular guest appearances in venues around the country, including a weekly residency at The Bronx, one of the leading dance music venues, where he was one of the local pioneers of Chicago House. In 1987 he was a local finalist in the DMC World DJ Championships and was one of the very first DJ's to employ samplers and sequencers performing live real-time remixes of tracks during his DJ'ing sets. He retired from club DJ'ing in 2005.
