Revision as of 22:59, 23 July 2011

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    The X Factor (U.S.) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Full protection: Persistent vandalism – IPs continuously remove Cheryl Cole from the judges section. It's getting really monotonous and old keeping on reverting IPs and requesting page protection. Too many times semi-protection has been administered for a period of one week, and it doesn't do anything. Requesting indefinite protection. Calvin 999 20:24, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User comment Full protection means no body can edit the page apart from administrators. Surly if its IP's causing the issue semi protection would be better. This would prevent IP edits but allow auto confirmed accounts to still edit the page (Ruth-2013 (talk) 20:39, 23 July 2011 (UTC))[reply]
Ohhh. Indefinite semi-protection then? Or least until the end of Season one, which will be December time i think. Calvin 999 21:45, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(non-admin observation) - There is one single IP editor warring on the article. An IP block makes more sense, and if he does eventually change IPs, a range block may be in order. Article doesn't need other protection measures. CycloneGU (talk) 16:24, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. Night of the Big Wind talk 14:09, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    • Comment Just discovered that the actual war ended some hours ago, but is more then likely that the parties will start again when they wake up. The two clash on almost every euthanasia-related article. Three days to a week must be enough for them to calm down. Night of the Big Wind talk 14:29, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Checking to see if protection is necessary. Question: Are you really sure? "Temporary" may not do anything. Also, Jabbsworth is violating the 3RR. If he reverts another non-vandalism edit, You may take him to either AIV or 3RR noticeboard. In the meantime, I will contact a user if meriting protection is necessary. Thank you. StormContent (talk) 14:44, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agree that Jabbsworth is on the line for 3RR if he reverts again. I may keep an eye on it briefly. However, the page does not merit protection; he's the only one trying to change it right now. Funny that in his last edit summary he reverts to a version by a POV pusher that has stood for years; if that's not violating multiple policies here, I don't know what is. CycloneGU (talk) 15:12, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The last edit of Jabbsworth crushed my hope that is was all over on the article... Night of the Big Wind talk 17:39, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I decided to take a step aside due Jabbsworth skills to drive the thing to edit wars and personal attacks, etc. NightoftheBigWind usually disagrees with my edits and agrees with Jabbsworth edits, but I am sure he has already noticed that not even him was able to avoid Jabbsworth continued reverting and editing warring. Now he have completed 5R. It seems it does not matter much to him acting like that just few hours after being unblocked of his permanent block due 6 times sockpuppetry. -- ClaudioSantos¿? 18:29, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Anders Behring Breivik (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotection - WP:INVOLVED admin protected after he approached 3RR blank and redirect, and being reverted by several editors. including myself. Have asked multiple times to unprotect and he has refused. The article was kept after a PROD, two AfDs, and a number of merge discussions, so the redirect is over community consensus. Correct procedure was to go to WP:DRV, but in any case WP:INVOLVED makes this a bad protect. See any, where even admins who support his position on policy disagree with his WP:INVOLVED violation see here. Should be set to semi-protect to keep vandals out, as was the case before the full protection. --Cerejota (talk) 22:42, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

User comment Why? User pages don't seam to attract move vandals. You do know IP editors can not move any pages what so ever on wikipedia. It just seams very remote to me that a registered user would attempt to move the user page. I am guessing its very rare a user page would need move protection.(Ruth-2013 (talk) 07:40, 23 July 2011 (UTC))[reply]
