DYK for White Goat Wilderness Area

Another contribution to the DYK project, thanks Victuallers (talk) 22:42, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

also from me! What do you think about my attempt to word Nels Running? Do we really need that long title in full? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:46, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Love it and said so! But see comments I just posted at WT:DYK. The way DYK has gone lately has really soured me. If I write new articles, I'll let you know and you can nom them. I don't need the mess DYK has become. PumpkinSky talk 22:53, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I saw your notes and understand. But my first barnstar was for resiliance, smile, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:17, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The best words on that overloaded discussion page which is detrimental to creativity were yours. We have a saying: "Es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter, nur unpassende Kleidung". I suggest let's get dressed for cold stormy weather for a while, but don't stop going outside. (There is a piano piece of Bartok which I love: Out Doors.) As for your suggestion I nominate your hooks: then I can't review them, smile. Better ask Sharktopus, the master of successful hooks, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:23, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you like my post on Twain. Interesting quote too. I really don't know Sharktopus, but if Frau Gerda likes him, I like him. PumpkinSky talk 19:40, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(outdent) Thanks so much, both of you. I liked your hook for the White Goat, and look forward to seeing more interesting stuff from you, on which if you like I will happily recommend even more hooks. Sharktopus talk 20:15, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PumpkinSky, by "the mess DYK has become" are you referring to the nominating procedure (creating a subpage, etc.), or the reviewing procedure (the checklist, etc.)? If you find the nomination procedure complicated, I am looking for feedback on ways i can make it smoother. rʨanaɢ (talk) 16:09, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The whole shebang. The FA people have turned it into a mini-FA. New articles should not be expected to be at that level, that discourages people from first writing them and if they do, secondly it discourages them from submitting them. In addition, the review process is now overly complicated and bureaucratic (one example is that checklist Tony made). Did DYK have issues? yes, but making such a pain that people leave DYK as I did is NOT the way to go. Then you have people like Materialscientist making themselves the sole decision maker of things. I hear things are even worse at FA. Thanks for asking, but I have no interest in DYK whatsoever.PumpkinSky talk 16:15, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nels Running

is in prep1 now, but with a changed hook, do you agree to that? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:19, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, it's a better hook. Thanks. Nelson Story is in that hook and he's from Montana too.PumpkinSky talk 21:26, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re:email - nope. Once you've fixed it, go ahead, but until then it shouldn't be there. Nikkimaria (talk) 15:01, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BUNK. Your unilateral action is simply wrong on so many levels. That's one of wiki's many problems, every thinks they're judge jury and executioner in on swoop. PumpkinSky talk 15:07, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Consider it "sober second thought". If you spent time fixing the issues instead of complaining, you could have it renommed by the end of the day. As it is, calm down the rhetoric. Nikkimaria (talk) 15:19, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you spent time fixing it OR communicating first it would not even have been a problem. I should not have to renom it; besides it's way past the five day limit now. You calm down.PumpkinSky talk 15:26, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not at all upset, though you seem to be. Fixing it is not my responsibility, it's yours - you introduced the problem, you want it on the main page, you need to deal with it. If it had been on the nom page when I noticed it I would have communicated first, but since it was already in queue I acted to remove it so issues could be addressed a) without as much time pressure and b) without it potentially ending up on the main page while still problematic. Nikkimaria (talk) 15:37, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Mighty white of you. PumpkinSky talk 15:39, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Nelson Story

PanydThe muffin is not subtle 00:19, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for an interesting story on Story! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:21, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Did you see that the two not bolded wilderness areas got 543 resp 398 hits? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:26, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Mike Cline did most of the writing on Nelson Story, Montanabw and I just helped. No, I didn't notice the other two. PumpkinSky talk 09:40, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You helped enough to be credited also, though. - I am happy that the wildernesses got the hits I had predicted. I know from the Bach cantatas, observed as 20%. Your percentage is much higher, - I think by now I have some regular readers who know what a Bach cantata is and don't click again, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:54, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just added a little star to my user page, did you know, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:42, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your notes! (Partly replied there.) DYK - I want to make facts known, even if the way is (needlessly) bureaucratic. The first Lutheran hymnal (teamwork, Sharktopus started) is in prep as a lead hook. - People from Montana: so many things are linked, why not opera soprano? (but singer?) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:00, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hey there PSky. I remember working with you on the Nels Running article, and wondered if you would be interested in working on another historical military figure. The article I'm thinking of is Noel F. Parrish. A friend of mine who's no longer editing (I won't bore you with the details as I tend to get rather pissed when I think about it) and I were working on that and considering trying to get it up to GA. I think there's enough material there, and while I'm not really up on all the political stuff GA, FA, FLC and such must be endured; I think we could make a go at it. I'd be flattered if you'd at least take a look and tell me what you think, but it's by no means a "please do this" type of thing. Cheers and Best, — Ched :  ?  21:10, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ched! That's an interesting article and sure I'd help where I can. Someone put a lot of work into that. Sorry about your friend. What do you want me to do? From a quick glance the intro lead needs beefed up. Other than that it looks very good to me. What do you see as it needing work on? PumpkinSky talk 21:17, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! .. right now a second set of eyes from someone whose worked on that type of article before. I'll see what I can do with the lead (hadn't thought of that). I probably won't get much time until Monday evening, but I hit that ASAP. Ummm ... I'm not trying to stick my nose in or anything, or ask personal stuff ... but should I consider you "he" or "she"? ... just wondering, and you don't have to say. Cheers. — Ched :  ?  21:25, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If it's okay I'd rather people on the 'net know as little about me as possible. I'll give a look at the article now. PumpkinSky talk 21:33, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I could only find minor tweaks to make. After we get the lead up to snuff, I'd just go for GAC. PumpkinSky talk 21:42, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I modified the list to try to satisfy your concerns. Mind having another look at the FLC? Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 01:22, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done and commented there, sorry but we'll have to agree to disagree on this. Best wishes.PumpkinSky talk 01:40, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, can you revisit the above FLC? Specifically, can you address the WP:COMMONNAME argument made by Juliancolton? Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 14:39, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done. But I think wiki using 'hurricane' in this fashion is misguided.21:48, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject Montana

It was recently suggested that WikiProject Montana might be inactive or semiactive and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. I have started a discussion on the projects talk page soliciting the opinions of the members of the project if this project would be interested in being supported by WikiProject United States. Please feel free to comment on your opinions about this suggestion. --Kumioko (talk) 01:51, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Born" a bit prematurely, I started Bei Nacht, wondering if I should translate to "By Night" or "At Night" or what? - To your question on DYK: how it made it is on the article's talk, question remaining: why it made it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:49, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments a few days ago about the FLC of List of deaths at the Berlin Wall. I believe that all of the concerns you had have been attended to. I'd be grateful if you could take a look. Regards, violet/riga [talk] 20:52, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Please leave my posts alone

Please have the courtesy to follow the project's requests. It's written at the top and in an edit notice. I'd also like to point out, I've not removed your post, only hidden it and copied it elsewhere, with a link to where I've copied it. That meets all the requirements of the CC-BY-SA, and talk page requests. Let's not over exaggerate here. WormTT · (talk) 17:46, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"the project", you mean you and pyfan. I'm the project too. that's one of wiki's innumerable problems, someone always thinks they have to stick their nose in your business.PumpkinSky talk 17:48, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By "the project", I mean the RfA reform project, which I'll point out that you are not a member of. You're welcome to join and I think you'd be a valued member of the team - since you're actually interested in pushing forward with a point of view. However, to ensure that everything is easy to find, we've set up subpages, and comments on the top page are copied across to those subpages - keeping the conversations in one place. It stops the same comments coming up over and over, and it allows people to focus on particular areas. Pyfan and I are two of the co-ordinators who help keep the project in this order, you're welcome to discuss it with Swarm or Kudpung, the other two. Or you're welcome to post anything you like at the RfA talk page. From experience though, places like RfA talk or Jimbo's talk just let people have a shouting match, then it disappears into the archives and nothing happens. All we're doing is trying to keep things organized - and therefore not forgotten. WormTT · (talk) 17:55, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just leave me alone please. PumpkinSky talk 18:14, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Aw..., don't feel bitten Pumpkin, we know you're interested in helping out with the running of Wikipedia but haven't learned to read talk page headers yet, or taken time to find out what adminship is all about. I'm sure that when you've read up on the work that is being done at RFA2011, understood what the issues are, and realised that there is no cabal, but a group of highly experienced users (admins and non admins) who do know what they are doing, you'll be welcome to make constructive comments there, especially if you take the advice you've been given by bureaucrats on board. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:54, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but everyone please leave me alone.PumpkinSky talk 01:59, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You've made many excellent contributions to articles and we understand your enthusiasm to be helpful in other areas. However, it would be a good idea for you to wait until you know more about the purpose, procedure, and policy of special projects before you join in with them. You might also wish to interact with people with a less combative tone, then you won't need to ask them to back off when you feel hurt. That's a great picture on your user page, but it might help us if there were some informtion about you on it. You can always come over to my page if you need help on anything. DYK for Frances Senska

The DYK project (nominate) 12:06, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Nice to meet you in that set! - Guess what, I recently lost a ring on a cycling trip, no way to retrieve it, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:23, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. And too bad about the ring. I'm now working on an article on Yogo sapphires with Tim1965. PumpkinSky talk 20:25, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's precisely why I mentioned it. Back home, after seeing this by the chance of its DYK nomination, I would not have know otherwise. "Aimez-vous Brahms??" - tomorrow rehearsal of another famous piece for concerts on 5 and 12 November, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:47, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. PumpkinSky talk 20:29, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yogo

Great article already! - Too great for me to review, I'm afraid, I'm not familiar with the subject. Comments (to avoid editing, smile): I would not need chemical formulas in the lead nor refs, expecting a general summary there. Language questions: "characteristics ... was"? "This is what gives"? "Mining at came to be known"? Avoid too many "also" in a row, look for a missing space, keep ref numbers rising (all these observed next to the rectangular pic.) Returning to my own first, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:14, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for looking. I did some moving around, editing, etc and need to do another review. PumpkinSky talk 20:17, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. PumpkinSky talk 20:32, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Saw it with pleasure, thank you. Pics: I don't feel the lead one should be smaller than the others, also don't like so much the blue one right opposite the purple, would prefer each colour to stand alone more. Looking again at the original pics, I think to crop them less and show a bit more of the light reflection around them might be a good idea, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:57, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I like the new lead pic because it's a richer blue. I may recrop it. I like the two that are beside the same paragraph because it's easier to see the color difference--it was less obvious when they weren't on the same line. Will think on this.PumpkinSky talk 10:46, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I was not clear. The lead pic is fine, just small. The other pics are kind of too large in comparison, both their size (in pixels) and the size of the gem in relation to the pic size. I would crop THEM so that the sparkling - shadow ... (?) around them is visible at least a bit, that should give them a comparable size to the lead, in the article. If you click on those pics you would still see more details of the gem itself. - The two colours - a matter of taste. If you have to have them close together, please have a few lines of text in between, for the old-fashioned screens with barely any room left between 2 pics on the same level, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:04, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Lead pic even finer larger, thanks! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:06, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps it's my German grammar: "Yogo sapphires are rarer than diamonds, and in 1969, were designated the Montana state gemstone", - were (plural) ... the gemstone (singular), does it work in English? I suggest to take that fact as a DYK, together with "only mined in Yogo". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:10, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not your grammar, but my sloppy writing. I've tweaked it. PumpkinSky talk 23:16, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder how long the Hope Diamond will be pictured on the Main page, - would make a perfect match to the Yogo, - did today to my wedding finery (now on P:DE), --Gerda Arendt (talk) 00:08, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Back to work: I think the detail about the dispute about the name could leave the lead, mining etc should come. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:48, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Great ideas!PumpkinSky talk 15:04, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Way cool. I will help with the GA process, been through it a few times, some even on my own. I'll ask a couple of others on the WPEQ pro team to offer any advice they might have. Montanabw(talk) 23:07, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! But what does WPEO mean? Prob not wiki ettiquette. PumpkinSky talk 23:09, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

LOL! WikiProject EQuine, where many of my other wiki-buddies hang out. One happens to also an astonishingly prolific creator of GA and FA-class articles on Episcopalian bishops, so she has a great variety of interests and a good eye for where a GA nom can get hung up, I respect her views immensely. Montanabw(talk) 00:53, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably going to get lost on the DYK talk page

But may I draw your attention here? PanydThe muffin is not subtle 02:03, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Has definite possibilities. PumpkinSky talk 02:11, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Fancy editing it/making suggestions on the talk page for DYK? PanydThe muffin is not subtle 02:36, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just took a look at this article and to improve it, I would suggest not sandwitching text between two adjacent images, this is discouraged for GA articles. Thank you for your time!!! Puffin Let's talk! 19:09, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll think about it. I like the way, in this case, that it shows contrasting blue and purple Yogos.PumpkinSky talk 19:13, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I think - without knowing the rules - I said something similar. They would contrast also one under the other, and the text would look less squeezed. - I just mentioned the article as a good example for DYK collaboration, hope you don't mind. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:28, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Krieger

You read my mind! I suggested Hans Krieger for Christmas and wanted to wait for more info until the cantata's premiere today and tomorrow (same people, 2 locations) and perhaps a review. But if it will appear tomorrow, something like "premiered today" might be added. If wanted, I could supply the posters, only both don't name the librettist, of course, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:03, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like it will hit the main page on Dec 4. Let's keep and eye if that pans out. I'll change it now. I didn't even realize the coincidence. ;-)PumpkinSky talk 15:08, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's what mind-reading is about, thank you, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:38, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Probably more like you were telepathically sending be a Befehl!PumpkinSky talk 15:49, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Sending" would assume some kind of consciousness (which I don't recall), and Befehl to you? Never! Wunsch, yes, it's the season for Wunschzettel, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:09, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Chimes, Uxbridge

Could you explain why you have closed the Template:Did you know nominations/The Chimes, Uxbridge when discussion was ongoing. Although the reviewer had marked it as DYKno, they had not responded to comments for two weeks up until that time and have not responded since. I have asked another editor to complete the review. Would you mind reopening the nomination, or giving your thoughts on what should be done? Harrison49 (talk) 15:29, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It looked like a dead nom to me. I've reopened it. Good luck. PumpkinSky talk 15:34, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Would you mind reviewing it yourself and letting me know what you think? Harrison49 (talk) 15:42, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No. 5 Airfield Construction Squadron RAAF

Because it was added after I read the article, but thanks nonetheless. Anotherclown (talk) 03:50, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RFA thanks

Thank you for your comment and support at my recent successful RFA. Being now the new fellow in the fraternity of administrators, I will do my best to live up to the confidence shown in me by others, will move slowly and carefully when using the mop, will seek input from others before any action of which I might be unsure, and will try not to break anything beyond repair. Yogo Sapphire lead

PS, I've been following the GA review. Do you mind if I tweak the lead a bit?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mike Cline (talkcontribs)

A barnstar for you!

The Editor's Barnstar
For the awesome work you did in creating Yogo sapphire and leading the charge to GA status, I hereby award you this Editor's Barnstar! Congratulations and thank you! Dreadstar 01:17, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
WOW. Thanks! That's my first award! PumpkinSky talk 01:20, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Prep question

Sorry for the slow response, but I have recently returned from traveling and am still in the process of working through old messages. As for why instructions do not match reality, DYK has seen a number of changes to how things work over the last few months and it is not surprising that the documentation has not caught up to the current situation. You can actually edit the instructions, or if you are uncomfortable doing so then Wikipedia talk:Did you know is the place to request better wording. --Allen3 talk 01:40, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Thanks. PumpkinSky talk 01:41, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

Hey, I am sorry I was reviewing a classmates article and saw the word vandalism next to one of the changes and was curious as to what mistake was made. I must have accidentally marked something as vandalism without realizing it! Again I am sorry. --Kgw2 (talk) 01:31, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of TriTech Software Systems

Hello! Your submission of TriTech Software Systems at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know!
