Atul Chitnis (born 1962) is a FOSS Advocate [1] and the founder of FOSS.IN [2] , which was one of Asia's largest [3] FOSS conferences. Atul has also served as Faculty Committee member of NRCFOSS [4]

Atul Chitnis set up what was apparently India's first online service, a Bulletin Board System (BBS) called CiX, which was based on his product, CyberNet.[5] [6] [7]
Columnist and Event Organiser
As a columnist for PCQuest, he was a part of for the PCQuest Linux Initiative, an effort by the magazine to introduce Linux to its subscribers.[citation needed] He has conducted seminars and written articles and also encouraged people to try out and use FOSS and Open Standards.[citation needed]
From 2001, Chitnis, along with a group of like-minded friends, started organising the FOSS.in series of FOSS Conferences in Bangalore, India.
