Alison was inducted into The Hall of The Greats

On January 13, 2009, User:Alison was inducted into

The Hall of The Greats

This portrait of Julianne Moore was dedicated in her honor.
David Shankbone.
We've had our differences, but there is no denying that you have improved this website immensely, and for that I and the rest of the community are thankful. The inscription is the description. David Shankbone 17:45, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quick rename request

Hi Alison, I'm Eric, sysop at es.wiki. It's done, that account has been renamed to "Vándalo xxx" and the user page and discussion page redirects deleted, there's no connection remaining to your name. Greetings from Spain, Ilfirins (talk) 09:11, 14 January 2009 (UTC) PD: please excuse my bad english[reply]

Picture of Alison

Wowsers, that's a gorgeous picture, Al. PS: It took me months, to overcome my shyness to tell ya that. GoodDay (talk) 00:07, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

?? That one? --->
That's Julianne Moore - I only wish I looked that well :) - Alison 00:17, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not Moore's image, your image (on your UserPage). GoodDay (talk) 00:19, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well .... I don't know quite what to say :) Thank you!! BTW - I've just changed it to something "older" ^_^ - Alison 18:20, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Beautiful. GoodDay (talk) 22:39, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jesus christ - I came here to see a lovely picture of the wonderful Alison and all I get is Julianne Moore :-( Then Jimbo's face popped out at me and I got scared! Hope you're well Ali btw - it's been too long since we last caught up. Ryan PostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 00:21, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oi!

Sorry to disrupt, but we have a new JA/G marionette: MbrongDaIsla (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki). Mind cutting the strings of the other marionettes? -Jéské Couriano (v^_^v) 00:44, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's BaT again, Jéské. No other socks, tho', apart from one previously blocked - Alison 00:47, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank'ee. By the by, Jimbo peeping in creeps me out (tail between legs) -Jéské Couriano (v^_^v) 00:56, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heya! I ponder whether to ask a big "yes, you are banned and not welcome here" confirmation on ANI. Whatdayathink? -- lucasbfr talk 11:19, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Asking whether to ban someone who's unblock request is "Unblock me or I will sock for the 901st time" probably would be one of the shorter, more one-sided discussions in ANI history. SirFozzie (talk) 11:41, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in a playful mood. That could be fun :) -- lucasbfr talk 12:17, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seriously, can we just decline and protect his talk page. Stringing this sous-pont dweller serial sockpupeteer along only encouarges him. Do we really need to "confirm" this block with the checkuser who issued it? Surely, if Alison didn't think he was a sockpuppet, she would not have been the one to block him in the first place? --Jayron32.talk.contribs 14:51, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
After a couple more socks, yup. I agree. Threw him on WP:LOBU, going to protect [User Talk:OBO7]] and he's now revert on sight. SirFozzie (talk) 23:02, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

banned user

Hi Alison, I hope you are fine. I need your help. I have the impression, that banned User:NisarKand has once again created new sockpuppets. Could you do me a favor and check the following new users:

They have the same field of interest, the same writing style, and the same ambitions, as it seems.

Thank you! Tājik (talk) 14:30, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Taken to RFCU. --Kanonkas :  Talk  14:50, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Alison for voting in my RfA! I'm glad that you trust me. Best regards, --Kanonkas :  Talk  14:51, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Protection request

I promised I'd leave for a while, but I got a little curious and one thing led to another...anyway, I recommend that you or any admin semi-protect Jeremy Hanson indefinitely, essentially for the same reason as Kim Hagger. The reason will be evident to Alison, and if other readers see this first, ask her and note the page history: by the way, the vandal in that article's history could use a sock template. There's stupid site politics and there's the biography of this real-life person who's very likely to get caught up in BLP problems at some point because he shares a name with a certain other fellow. I think this is important enough to sneak out of my little hole and actually ask for it.

On a not-so-serious note, I did not know that it was forbidden to create usernames containing the word "BEANS." I further did not know that if you created the username "foo BEANS" it automatically means you are a sockpuppet of "foo." :-p 129.49.7.125 (talk) 02:13, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and while you're at it, unblock User:Arthana. He is innocent of sockpuppetry and should never have been blocked. More than a year later, it's not too late to free him. 129.49.7.125 (talk) 02:14, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. I have to kinda think about the unblock and do some digging, but fair point on the Jeremy Hanson article. I'll do that in a min (and no, I've no idea as to who you are!) - Alison 08:22, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good call on the prot - I've just done that. And as for the block, I'll unblock as a good faith measure. Their contribs were okay and the original checkuser (not done by me, BTW) didn't come back very strongly. Let's see how unblock goes & I'll take you on your (anonymous, tho' I can guess) word ;) - Alison 15:47, 27 January 2009 (UTC) (and what's with the BEANS thing?? Whoa!)[reply]
Yes you guessed right. It wasn't that hard. Okay, I'm really leaving now. Thanks for answering my requests.  :) 129.49.7.125 (talk) 22:59, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to help. And good luck :) - Alison 23:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

mailed you hun

You have mail.:) And this is why I could never be a sockpuppeteer lol:) Charity (Talk) 02:55, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, "Charity" :) I'll take a look in the morning here. You're by far not the only one saying that, and I think I need to kick this one upstairs, maybe ... - Alison 08:23, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There is also a shared interest in the Pan Am articles etc. Charity (Talk) 15:13, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yup. And others have already been on about it, so it definitely needs more looking into - Alison 15:41, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, unblocked. I took a detailed look at the circumstances. Let's see how things go ... - Alison 15:57, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

off topic comment

the picture of mr. wales peeping in from the side is quite disturbing. keep up the good work! Hope you are enjoying some time away from the madness. --Rocksanddirt (talk) 08:18, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks :) I keep getting dragged back in here, but I'm waaay down on my admin stuff these day. Hey - I even get to write articles now - what a novel experience! Glad you like the Jimmy image - you can blame Krimpet for that little masterpiece ^_^ - Alison 08:21, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it'd be fair to see you're not really on a Wikibreak. You're more active than me. Jolly Ω Janner 17:55, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hardly, H. I just keep getting dragged back here for various reasons, and I'm not doing a whole lot of admin stuff, to be honest (go check!!) - Alison 18:18, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hagger's not blacklisted. That's odd. Jolly Ω Janner 19:29, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:Jéské Couriano

Hey alison, thanks for protecting this page. I was originally respecting his wishes NOT to have his page protected against those that.... obviously... don't seem to care all that much for him. But after about a dozen reverts, I had just said screw it and was going to do it anyway when you beat me to the punch. thanks. :) Incidentally... I must really need sleep because the "Whack-a-Jimbo" coming in off the side of your screen just scared the crap out of me. Trusilver 08:23, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I know how he feels on that stuff, too, and he can unprot when he likes, but 1) this was causing unnecessary work and cleanup for others (YOU!!) and 2) it became an oversight issue so I made the call there. Glad you like the Whack-a-Jimbo - scary, huh? I think I need to keep him around ^_^ - Alison 08:26, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't been a part of that particular little business that's going on there? Is there some history behind that? After the eighth time or so, I was prepared to whip out with the rangeblock and then realized that every single hit to his talk page was from a drastically different IP. Is there an off-wiki coordination going on there? Trusilver 08:43, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He's a frequent target of coordinated vandalism. Probably because he thinks he's "gettin' em" by letting them vandalize so he can indef or long-term block the IPs, and it's a joke for them that he doesn't realize its meaningless. People have tried to talk him out of his "honey-pot for blocking IPs" strategy before, but it hasn't worked. Avruch T 15:33, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What Avurch said. He gets co-ordinated attacks from Grawp, who gets his /b/tard army to do the dirty work for him. Basically, every IP is some random, unknown person, so what's the point? Prot and move on, as per usual. Still, what can ya do ... Jéské takes it all a bit seriously, hence his being a target in the first place :/ - Alison 15:40, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well... I guess everyone needs a hobby... Trusilver 20:04, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Might I make a suggestion? Leave it alone, let the bot do it. Leave them wondering why actual editors are ignoring it. Do the same for Nawlin. -Jéské Couriano (v^_^v) 21:44, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And, Alison, it's kinda pointless oversighting edits w/ my personal name now. -Jeremy (v^_^v Dittobori) 08:46, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

←Honestly, Jeremy - you're best-off semi-ing the page so the children can all go to bed. Just look at the time!! ^_^ Seriously, semi just wastes /b/tard time then as the edit is blocked. Much more lulzy than having the bot kill ya and you weren't here to edit anyways - Alison 08:51, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt these are children. Besides, I'm going to be up for another 40 min. or so anyhow, and am asking for eyes from a forum ally and thru IRC. -Jeremy (v^_^v Dittobori) 08:52, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Give it

I want my account "Mr Rogers Loves You" back. It was banned unfairly by a power hungry admin and as such I have declared a jihad on Wikipedia until things are restored. I have manipulated your system on at least five occasions to get new accounts and each time I am banned, I can get back in within a few days. You cannot stop me, I will suceed. Now, gimme my account back!--JerryIsThePosterChild (talk) 18:35, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pardon?? - Alison 18:36, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I just blocked four more of your accounts. What exactly are you playing at here, and why on earth announce your intentions to keep socking to a checkuser, of all people? Not good :/ - Alison 18:41, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He said the same thing to me and FT2, at least, so I guess he's not going to be "suceed"ing or succeeding anytime soon. --Deskana (talk) 18:42, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also Avraham and Casliber. Would be easier to check, if Special:Contribs wasn't delayed a half hour. 18:47, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Avruch T
Hes just an attention starved trouble maker hungry for attention see this. I would just deny and theyll go away. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 19:08, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, they're all using a rather unpopular and hardblockable /21 range, so that will be the first to go, should the need arise. Furthermore, the WhiteCenterHoboClearer (talk · contribs) account is  Likely to be the same editor, as they share two disparate IP ranges (as well as other info) - Alison 19:51, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Blocked per CU + behavioral stuff. MBisanz talk 19:58, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jarlaxle

Alison, wasn't this information (at least his own real name and location) originally published by Jarlaxle himself? It certainly looks that way; I was able to find it easily enough from his own user page histories on other Wikimedia projects. As to the phone number, that was from the mailing list; I realize it is personal information, but how can abuse reports be effectively made without knowing who to make them against? If this vandal was inactive, I would agree that the information should probably be removed. But until he stops, having the information (1) is important in reporting his abusive activities to the ISP and possibly local authorities, and (2) gives us leverage over him - we could say "you want this taken down? stop vandalizing." I am not going to put it back in myself, but I think you should consider these factors. *** Crotalus *** 21:22, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You put his mother's full legal name and phone number up there??? What were you thinking??? I'm not even going to begin to address the concept of holding his personal details to ransom like that. That's what Daniel Brandt does, and he gets vilified for it. This absolutely does not go back up. It's a gross violation of policy and privacy applies to all here. It's that simple. Whatever about JA himself, his mother deserves privacy and protection from random idiots who may decide to call that number. Yeesh!! - Alison 21:24, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify, I was not the person who originally found that phone number. Someone else posted it on the mailing list about a month ago, and I put it in the LTA report, citing the mailing list post as a source. *** Crotalus *** 21:57, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I know who found it, and am aware of all the details. However, this does not belong on Wikipedia. Thanks for clarifying, but please don't post personal information on an editor or unrelated private individual to WP again. Thanks - Alison 21:59, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CU requested

In his thread: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#IP_Sock.3F. Seems pretty obvious to me, but worth checking anyway. ViridaeTalk 20:16, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Checked and reported. Thanks, Viridae - Alison 07:08, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
