List of United States Naval Academy alumni (Chiefs of Naval Operations)

Nominator(s): RlevseTalk

I am nominating this for featured list because I think it meets the criteria. RlevseTalk 00:08, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment -- The lead looks like an exact copy of the Astronauts list. Reword a bit to distinguish it. In addition, the lead really doesn't say much about the Chiefs of Naval Operations program: Elaborate on that. Also, use the comments from the other list's FLC and apply them here, like removing the full stops from the notes. Before nomination another list, wait for at least one of your nominations to be passed/archived.--TRUCO 00:14, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I did, it's the same topic/school, so of course there'll be similarities - I'm working on a general topic with these lists, and yes I did change the lead, and no, if you look you'll see the full stops are already removed. RlevseTalk 01:07, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There's no rule about only having one nomination. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 01:10, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)Due to the backlog and lack of reviewers, we are trying to keep noms from 1 specific user to at most 3.--TRUCO 01:48, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And if they're articles/lists that are being built on a topic, like here, sub lists of a main list that would be too big if all in one list, WP:FT requires, commonality.RlevseTalk 01:14, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have no problem with users with multiple noms (I do it all the time myself), but it wouldn't hurt to wait a week before submitting any more. -- Scorpion0422 01:40, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have lots of work to do on the next one. ;-) RlevseTalk 01:44, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Lead
  • The CNO reports directly to the Secretary of the Navy for the command, utilization of resources and operating efficiency of the operating forces of the Navy and of the Navy shore activities assigned by the Secretary -- The statement after the comma makes no sense: Revise, in addition to adding a period at the end of it.
  • Since the United States is referenced a lot. After the first occurrence of United States use the acronym form for latter references, which means that you will have to pipe some of the links to use the acronym.
  • Students do not become astronauts upon graduation, rather those who enter aviation and space-related fields have the opportunity to be selected for astronaut training by NASA. -- This should be reworded because this is not an Astronaut list so it stands out in its current wording, so it would be best to reword it accordingly.
  • The first alumni to graduate and go on to become CNO was William S. Benson, Class of 1877. -- (1)Add "a" before CNO (2)I would add "who graduated from the" before Class of 1877.
  • Over 50 U.S. astronauts have graduated from the Naval Academy, more than from any other undergraduate institution. -- This shouldn't be in this list as this is about CNO's not Astros.
  • The lead should summarize the list more, as in stating significant alumni and the most recent.
Alumni
  • The notability sections have many entries with full stops which shouldn't be there, replace them with semi-colons. Like Admiral.
  • Decrease the size of the first two columns, there is no reason for them to be that wide and have all that room.
Several names already word wrap, so that is not a valid concern for the name column. The class column is mostly taken by the header but I'll the person who made the template to see if class column can be cut some. RlevseTalk 02:01, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
