The Wikipedia Bounty Board allows any user to post monetary bounties for completing Wikipedia-related tasks. If the Bounty Hunters complete the task, the person offering the bounty – known as the Bounty Keeperdonates the bounty money to the Wikimedia Foundation in the name of the Bounty Hunters who worked so hard on the article. The Wikimedia Foundation is the non-profit organization which runs Wikipedia.

Normally the task is to improve an article to either good article or featured article status. Good articles are well-sourced articles covering all major aspects of a topic, and have no major problems. Featured articles are the best articles Wikipedia has to offer and are formally peer-reviewed by Wikipedians.

How to make an offer
  1. Add your request to the list below. Please include your username and the name of the page you want to place a bounty on.
  2. If you like, add the {{bounty}} template to the talk page and {{bountywp}} to related wikiprojects
  3. Wait for the article to improve.
  4. Make your donation to the Wikimedia Foundation.

If you have questions about how this system works, check out the talk page. If you would like to post or seek a reward in which the gift is made to the editors rather than the Foundation, please see the Wikipedia:Reward board instead.

Notes
This is a legitimate offer despite my lack of contributions (in the form of edits or donations, actually) to Wikipedia/Wikimedia in the past. Please see my user page for details if you're curious and/or suspicious. At any rate, I was trying to decide on an article and was horrified at the references, or rather lack thereof, here. To see this article on Wikipedia's main page some day would be wonderful; show the man proper respect with page numbers from actual books and the like and I'll be happy though.

Question from Ta bu shi da yu

Will this account for inflation?

Hehe, I had the same thought. -Fsotrain09 22:21, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Terrible, horrible joke. -Utopianfiat 15:19, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Time Travel Fund might be useful here - see website (though more for amusement). Jackiespeel (talk) 15:36, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lisp articles

Amount
$10 USD an article, to a max of 2
Bounty offerer
maru dubshinki
Expiration date
One day before the Trumps of Doom sound.
Notes
This is intended for articles like Lisp programming language, cons, Lisp machine, John McCarthy (computer scientist), Richard P. Gabriel, Richard Stallman, Emacs etc. Note that if you claim the bounty on RMS, for example, this can stack with my GNU/FSF/EFF bounty. If you have questions, contact me- if it is in the Lisp category, or is written in a Lisp dialect, it's a pretty good bet.

GNU/FSF/EFF articles

Amount
$10 USD an article, to a max of 2
Bounty offerer
maru dubshinki
Expiration date
One day before the Trumps of Doom sound.
Notes
Any article relating to the GNU Project, the Free Software Foundation, or the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Project Gutenberg is acceptable as well. Note that if you choose your articles right, this can stack with my previous Lisp bounty- a Emacs/GNU Emacs FA would be able to claim both bounties. Acceptable articles include the foundation articles, their software, important personages, legislation or court cases they were involved in or (in the case of the EFF) defended &etc. If you have question about a specific article, contact me.

Medieval Japanese poets

Amount
$5 USD an article, to a max of 1
Bounty offerer
maru dubshinki
Expiration date
One day before the Trumps of Doom sound.
Notes
This bounty applies to any article on a Japanese poet who was born before 1500 CE. This can include their biographical article, or articles on anthologies they worked on or had work included in, or their own works. Examples would include Shotetsu, Fujiwara no Teika, the Kokin Wakashū etc. No restrictions on genre.

Star Wars articles

Amount
$10 USD an article, to a max of 2 (first one claimed for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith)
Bounty offerer
maru dubshinki
Expiration date
One day before the Trumps of Doom sound.
Notes
If it involves any aspect of Star Wars, it's good. However, Palpatine is specifically dis-allowed- please see the bounty specifically for Palpatine. Examples would include Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda, Prophets of the Dark Side &etc. If it's in Category:Star Wars, it counts.
