'''HISTORY OF NIT / BACKGROUND'''

Noshirvani Engineering College(NEC), now known as Noshirvani Institute of Technology(NIT) was found in 1970 by Seyed Hossain Fallah Noshirvani

The NIT is situated in Babol (pop: 196000), a university town in the province of Mazandaran in the north of Iran about 18 km south of Caspian Sea (the biggest lake in the world)

The institute is constructed on an 11 hectare land occupying three two stories buildings and five separate well equipped laboratories & workshop blocks housing 5 Engineering Faculties and postgraduate building.

A unique designed building is added to the campus, accommodating the academic staff members of Four Engineering faculties and post graduate classes. All engineering faculties have well equipped lecture and seminar halls.

NIT has the largest and spacious amphitheater in Mazandaran. The amphitheater is furnished with 750 seats ( 550 in the main hall and 200 in the balcony).

In 1972 the institution was named as “Higher Technical Teacher’s Training College” where selected students were accepted and trained to be qualified as technical teachers in the fields of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical engineering.

In 1979 through the university commission, the Higher Technical Teacher’s College was amalgamated in the University of Mazandaran as an Engineering Faculty offering undergraduate and graduate courses. NIT is a co-educational institution and is highly praised for its high disciplined status in the country.{{Fact|date=May 2009}}

In 1985 Higher Educational Commission of Ministry of Science, Research and Technology accepted the approval to upgrade NEC to the higher academic status i.e. Institute of Technology. Restoring the founders name, Noshirvani Institute of Technology (NIT).

The need of having an institution with higher academic was felt because in this region:

-Tremendous growth of young generation interest in acquiring academic
education
-High potential of human resources in the fields of science & culture.
-Expansion of physical and spacious place for educational research activities.
-Philanthropists contributions and general public donations towards the
expansion of such higher educational institutions in the region.

NIT is an institution having ties with the national industry.

STUDENT AND THE CLASS
The NIT campus houses both male and female students while by statistics, female student population is constantly growing, reaching a 35-40 percent population in the 2002- 2003 academic year. The lecture classes are huge and quite spacious and accommodates 50 to 70 students. Some of the classes are fitted with data projector facilities to be used as and when required.
Each class is further divided into smaller groups of 15- 20 students for labs and workshop tutorials.

LABORATORIES AND WORKSHOPS
All Engineering Faculties have laboratories equipped with apparatus and equipment. The Labs & workshops are housed in four spacious blocks.
Along with the undergraduate activities, most of the laboratories and workshops provide the curriculum requirements for graduate study and research in the relative fields.

STUDENT AND COUNCELLING SERVICE
The student welfare office provides counseling and orientation seminars within the first few weeks of each academic year.

There are several students unions, societies and social groups of which the students are members and are active in their programs.

STUDENTS COMPITTTIONS
Students of different faculties are constantly involved in preparation for participation in engineering competitions( concrete, electronic, robotic and computer) at a national and international level.

Under the guidance and supervision of the academic staff of the institution, the Civil Engineering Faculty students’ team was placed
in Second position at the International High Strength Concrete Competition held in Toronto, Canada in the year 2000 and the Third position in Texas, USA in 2001.
In 2001 national competition of Robotic Gadgets was held in Tehran, Iran, the College students’ team of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering was placed in 4th position.{{Fact|date=May 2009}}
