Ivanhoe Primary School was founded in 1853 as Ivanhoe School on the site of the corner of Waterdale and Upper Heidelberg roads in Ivanhoe.[1]
28 years on, the school moved down the road a little to a site that is now occupied by Australia Post, the Ivanhoe Post Office.
Then in 1923, large red brick building was established at its present site at the corner of Waterdale Road and Ailsa Grove.
This school has a large range of facilities, and is close to the central commercial hub of the Ivanhoe area.
In 2010, the school has a student population of 506 students, from a total of 21 grades.
Also in 2010, as a result of the Rudd Governments B.E.R. program, construction of a large school hall commenced. This has been the most significant building improvement in many years and the school community anticipates its completion in late 2010 or early 2011.
