This user is clearly not noew to wikipedia and has admitted that he has created a new user to be able to edit the controversial area of Race and intelligence.[1] As there are several accounts that are blocked and topicbanned form that area it is relevant to know if this account is ban evading. It could be related to Mikemikev (talk · contribs), Jagz (talk · contribs) or MoritzB (talk · contribs) or Captain Occam (talk · contribs). ·Maunus·ƛ· 13:02, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Sock Puppetry is the abuse, not use of alternate accounts. Per WP:SOCK#LEGIT, "A person editing an article which is highly controversial within his/her family, social or professional circle, and whose Wikipedia identity is known within that circle, or traceable to their real-world identity, may wish to use an alternative account to avoid real-world consequences from their editing or other Wikipedia actions in that area." No evidence of abuse has been given, and Maunus admits that this complaint has been raised solely because he disagrees with the presumed point of view of Rrrrr5. He has no reason to suppose that there is a connection to Mikemikev, and indeed has a history of accusing the latter of ban violations which have later proved groundless by ArbCom (see for example [2]). Now he resorts to Fishing to get his way. This is Wikipedia:Harassment, and conduct highly unbecoming a moderator.
Maunus complains that he needs to be able to raise these complaints to "tidy up this particular corner". Perhaps his time would be better allotted elsehwere? Holding Ray (talk) 06:53, 30 April 2011 (UTC) indefinitely blocked sockpuppet account[reply]
Nonsense, block evasion is abusive use of multiple accounts, and so is POV-pushing. I have never given any statement of whether or not I personally agree with any viewpoint. I do think my time is better allotted elsewhere as Wikipedia aparrently have little concern for whether their coverage of sensitive issues such as race is infected with politically motivated sockpuppets, meatpuppets and other puppets clearly working together through illicit means. Indeed I expect you will be seeing much less of me over the coming months, as this is simply not an enjoyable work environement and I can find better ways to spend my time off wiki. I hope you'll enjoy your time here at the wiki, how good of you to use your third edit as a registered user to make personal attacks and assumptions of bad faith against an another editor. A good day to you sir. ·Maunus·ƛ· 12:01, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment @Holding Ray, it would be odd that a new editor (you) immediately launches into WP:ALPHABETSOUP as soon as they start editing on WP unless they were here before and editing in a contentious environment. Perhaps you need to be checked as well given your attack mentality here citing (appropriately wiki-linked) harassment and fishing. I have seen no reason to consider Maunus acting in bad faith at the R&I topics. Can this request be expanded to check Holding Ray? (That would be versus the editors mentioned.) Thank you. :*By all means check. I used to edit under another name, but none of those listed here, and I am not evading any blocks or bans. I am not suggesting that Maunus is acting in bad faith at R&I, but I am suggesting that his behaviour at this page is inappropriate. Holding Ray (talk) 20:47, 30 April 2011 (UTC) indeinitely blocked sockpuppet account[reply]

    • I don't see what your rush is to convict Maunus, if there's no CU confirmation this matter is closed. Certainly one has to wonder about the editor's first choice of edit. Your free and easy invocation of WP:ALPHABETSOUP is what bothers me most here. PЄTЄRS J VTALK 21:00, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

One of the legitimate uses of alternate accounts is privacy when editing controversial topics. Do you have any evidence that this is a user avoiding their block? TNXMan 16:26, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, no direct evidence. Only the fact that he enters into an ongoing discussion from the same POV and with simlar editing style as some of the above editors, and that editors editing from that viewpoint have frequently used sock and meatpuppets disruptively in the past. If it is a fact that it is a legitimate to use sock accounts for pov-pushing in controversial areas for "privacy" reasons, then I am going to have to reconsider whether my time spent in trying to tidy up this particular corner of the project is well allotted. That would seem to give a carte blanche to use sock puppets for promoting controversial and fringy topics that one does not wish to have associated with one's main account.·Maunus·ƛ· 01:38, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
